Week 12 – Public Art
Inspired by Marina Abramovic, I want a performance that tests my limit of my capability as a human. So I decided to test my strength by going for a one rep max deadlift. I have never attempted a one rep max in deadlift before. I rarely do this exercise, the reason why I use this exercise as the test for my overall strength is because it use every part of the body. I purposefully did not wear any accessories that would help my lift, I didn't even wear any shoes. I want this lift to be solely base on my raw strength. I did my arm up and stretch out and slowly build up the weight. I lifted until I failed. I was able to lift up to 150kg or 330.7lbs. People around we definitely looking, especially weight that much cause a lot vibration and sound when dropped. But mainly I was surprised myself that I would lift that much and that quickly. So I decided to up up a weight, to 160kg or 352.7lbs. I failed that attempt. I was almost able to lift the weight but my grip strength was not strong enough and it slipped out of my hand. I also feel a strain in the back of my neck. So I stopped the performance there. I did not want to retry, and risk injuring myself. If I wore accessories I would have been able to have a successful lift, but I purposefully did not wear it to truly see if my ENTIRE body is strong enough to lift that weight. The accessories help eliminate the weak points in the human body like grip strength, but I wanted to test myself.

Week 12- EC
During World War 2 works of art were destroyed or stolen. The Nazis were stealing arts from other cultures. A group of American scholars are trying to protect the works of art from being destroyed and stolen in war. Their obstacles includes the main objective of trying to protect these arts from being destroyed in the war and being stolen by the Nazis, but also to persuade the soldiers to not destroy these historical pieces. I think the events are interesting in The Monuments Men, because they are fighting to save the arts of another country; a culture that is not theirs.
Tumblr media
In The Woman in Gold, a woman is trying to retrieve the painting of her aunt Adele. The painting were stolen from them by the Nazis and now resides in an Vienna museum. Her reason for wanting to retrieve the painting is so it would help the children remember their family history. It is an interesting story: a privately owned piece of property becomes a public’s property. The woman sees her aunt in the painting and therefore wants to be reunited with her aunt.
Tumblr media
From these two movies I have learned to protect mementos, either of a nation or a family. In those objects resides the stories of people of our past. Throughout the movie, main characters remind the living person of their ancestors. It is to remind the audience that we, living people, are the legacy of our predecessor. What they did and achieved, is a part of us and our story on this earth.
The concept of erasing cultures has been existing as long as human history. When a tribe invades another tribe and makes them assimilate or join them is part of erasing culture. What culture existed in that tribe has now been erased. The reason is so that the groups can become one. The purpose the invading group wants the other group’s culture to be erased is so they can easily assimilate and be absorbed into the invading group’s culture. It happens in these two films, the destruction of Buddhas and Bamiyan, the United State’s invasion of Native Americans land, invasion of Ukraine, colonization, etc. It happens in every colonization, annexation, invasion between groups of people.
It’s hard to say whether or not a piece of art is worth a human life. A piece of art is still an object that was created by another human being so to have that object be the equivalent to another human life seems not to make sense. However, these pieces of work are not merely just an object but also have cultural significance. Some see these as objects of human history and culture, therefore worth saving. People like Hitler or Putin who are trying to destroy cultures’ history and culture are a different story because it is erasing a whole group of people’s identity and connection to their ancestors. I would go through a lot to save my family’s mementos, however I would not put my life into jeopardy or to sacrifice my own life to my family mementos.
Tumblr media
In Woman in Gold, the painting should be returned to its rightful owner. It is the owner's decision to put it back into a museum for the public to enjoy that national treasure. Since she sees her aunt in the painting, and wants to reunite with her. However, what if she dies? Will her children appreciate the painting of her aunt like she does?
Tumblr media
The issue around the church and pyramid is complex and hard to answer. On one side can argue that the church is a holy place and cannot be destroyed to uncover the pyramid. However the other side can argue that religion was being used as a tool to harm people, therefore the church needs to be removed. My resolution is to alert whoever is incharge and being able to remove the church without offending Christians would be the most peaceful approach. The difficulty is to convince that person to ‘green light’ the process.
Humans are eager to erase other’s cultures due to ego. They believe their culture is the superior or the only one worth existing. It’s also to make the other culture assimilate to theirs easier, if they wish to colonize that culture. There is a place to celebrate diversity but there is also a great advantage to conformity. English is considered the universal language, it is the most powerful language on the planet Earth because it is set as the standard language when two people from different cultures try to communicate. On a more micro scale, countries like India, China and Vietnam have multiple ethnicities that speak different languages. However, each country has a national language that everyone needs to learn how to speak so they can communicate to each other easier. What this does in time is the children from smaller groups will abandon their groups and that culture will lose their language and cultural identity. This happens to a lot of Native Americans in the US and Canada. I don’t how we can truly celebrate diversity as there will be dominant cultures that will engulf smaller cultures.

Week 12 – Artist – Abramovic-Althamer
Marina Abramović is a Serbian conceptual and performance artist. Her work explores the endurance and limitations of her own body and mind. Being active for over four decades, Abramović refers to herself as the "grandmother of performance art". She founded the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), in 2007, a non-profit foundation for performance art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pawel Althamer is a Polish artist from Warsaw. He went to the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1991, he began exhibiting his works. In 2004, Althamer received the prestigious Vincent Van Gogh Biannual Award, founded by the Broere Charitable Foundation of the Netherlands.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though they use the same medium, their art is very different. Abramovic performs her arts as an experimentation to test her body and mind. Since Althamer studied sculpture in his art school, he incorporated more outside mediums, mainly sculpture into his performances.

Week 11 – Art Activity – Choice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the collection of photographs I took using my film camera. I use a Kodak Color Plus 200 roll to achieve this warm color. Because this is a film camera, I had to pay attention and care to the composition of the image. Some of these pictures I direct the subjects in a certain way. Where as some pictures I waited for the right moment, like Fan Ho, to capture it.

Week 11 – Artist – Choice
Fan Ho
Fan Ho was a street photographer from Hong Kong, born in Shanghai in 1931. Since street photography is about capturing what is happening in the street and the spontaneity of things, there is no planning. Fan Ho’s approach towards street photography is that he waited for ‘the decisive moment.' Which allows for some unexpected moments; the pictures are framed against a composed background of geometrical construction, patterns and texture. His favorite locations were the streets, alleys and markets around dusk or life on the sea.
I like his work because of how close he is to his subjects, the common Hong Kong people. He captures regular people like vendors, hawkers selling fruits and vegetables, kids, pedestrians, etc. By capturing the breathing living people of Hong Kong, he seems to really capture the soul of the city itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ola Kolehmainen, born in Helsinki 1964, lives and works in Berlin. Kolehmainen graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 1999. The Berlin-based artist is a leading figure in Finnish photography. Ola Kolehmainen is known for his abstract photography depicting details, surfaces, and patterns of architecture. Modern architecture is Kolehmainen’s main inspiration. Instead of photographing whole buildings, Kolehmainen focuses on finding details, making the viewer question a building is perceived. He wants the audience to pay attention to the architectural materials and forms. Kolehmainen likes to focus on space, light, and color in his works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Ho and Kolehmainen likes to take pictures of environment and spaces. The both like to explore what is the best composition they can get out of the environment. However their intention towards capturing these spaces are different. Ho intention is about capturing the space and the subjects living in it. He's trying to give life into the environment. The space he captures is where people live, breath and call home. It has a more human connection than Kolhmainen's approach. Kolehmainen's approach towards capturing the space is the beauty and the art in that environment. The space is a visually appealing subject for the audience to look at. He likes to abstractify the environment, which takes the connection with humans out of the space.

Name your blog post: Week 10 – Art Activity – Intermedia
Tumblr media
I chose the idea of recreate the feeling of my favorite memory travelling to Taipei, Taiwan. To create this piece, I considered the mediums of video, photography, and canvas. I chose canvas. The reason why I didn't go for video or photography because I did not record my trip so it would be hard to edit the files back. I chose canvas because it's a good medium to build up from. I like the result I created. I use cotton to create the smoke I saw coming from the restaurants and food vendors. The red lines and yellow dots are supposed to represent the lively street lights of the scene. By looking at this piece I recollect back to when I went around and eat street food in Taipei. It's an abstract piece, it's not supposed to show literally what I experienced but it gives off the similar feeling when being viewed. I also like how dreamy it seems, because this is a memory I'm recollect and not what I am experiencing so not everything is picture sharp.

Week 10 – Artist – Joseph DeLappe & Micol Hebron
Joseph Delappe uses multiple mediums to express his ideas; he doesn’t stick to one medium. Delappe does a lot of political commentary. He especially likes discussing drone strikes. He experiments with different mediums, as his works include a wide variety. He uses video games, videos, installation/ sculpture pieces, money, performance art, websites (Craigslist), plants, drawings, paintings, photographs, images. The medium goes hand in hand with the message he’s trying to tell the audience. The reason for the medium will help enhance the overall experience, as each medium has its strengths and weaknesses. In DeLappe’s case I would say video as an artform was an out of the box solution for me. After examining the works, I completely get why he uses the medium, it helps engage the user into the experience he’s trying to show them. One medium I see he hasn’t gone into is dance or much of music. Since he likes the theme of war a lot, I am surprised he hasn’t directed a play or a dance sequence revolving around the subject.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Micol Hebron uses multiple mediums such as painting, photography, installation, sculpture, videography, etc. Her work deals a lot with gender and feminism. Similar to Delappe, Hebron uses the medium that she thinks is best to express her idea. It’s also about the efficiency of the medium. why have to draw or paint something if the same idea can be done through a photograph. Therefore, unless she truly thinks her idea is best portrayed in a particular medium, she wouldn't do it. In some of her works, it seems like she’s doing some form of public demonstration of issues regarding gender and feminism. I didn’t think public demonstrations could be considered art in the traditional sense, until now. I could see how public demonstration could be a part of performance art. After looking at Delappe’s utilization of video games, I think it would be interesting for Hebron to incorporate them into her works. Especially considering how video games often portray female characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between Delappe and Hebron, they don’t have much in common. The themes they have are different. Delappe prefers to explore themes regarding war and gun violence. While Hebron prefers to explore more gender-specific issues. Some of their mediums overlap like painting, sculpture, and images, but those are very popular mediums for artists to use. However, I do see a common thought process that goes into their artwork. They examine the specific message they want to send to their audience. They specify the type of experience the audience will have when viewing their work. Then finally they chose the medium that is best for the message and experience they want their audience to have.

Week 8 – Artist – Addario-Cardiff-Miller
Addario considers herself as a journalist and just that, which means her job is to only document about the events that she observes. She is a photojournalist so she documents primarily through pictures. She wants people to look at her work, be attracted to it, so she doesn’t try to document tough images, but rather the beauty in tough situations. A lot of time, people tune out violence pictures if they are exposed to a saturation of it. So it’s her job to humanize the story so people care.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cardiff and Miller use sounds, audio recording, and music to tell stories. It’s hard for me to understand their work and its intentions. However, from observation, they are trying to tell a story or elicit a specific emotion in their work. I struggle interpreting or getting the feeling they are trying to commute but I can see there is an intent of doing so in their work. Some of their work seems like it’s also just for entertainment purposes as it is just an interesting concept without showing an intent of storytelling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both Addarios and Cardiff-Miller are trying to tell stories and elicit emotions from their work. However, their approach to their works are vastly different. Addario’s works are photography, it’s 2D. Whereas Cardiff-Miller works involve sounds and 3D installation. Cardiff-Miller’s works are more interactive. Addario does journalist work, her work’s goal is to tell real world stories through the visual medium of photography. Her works are a bit more serious than Cardiff-Miller’s works, as their works are more entertainment than trying to raise awareness. There are also more processes that go into Cardiff-Miller’s works. They collaborate on coming up with the concept of a piece and then work out the details of executing the piece. It takes more planning and collaborative effort.
Though Addario’s work of telling real world stories is important, it doesn’t take away from Cardiff-Miller’s work of being less important. Their work is more entertaining than Addario's, however their work is deep and contemplative. Being self reflective and learning more about one self and human conditions in general is also important in its own right.
If I pursue a career in storytelling I would like to be like Addarios’ career. Since taking a journalism class in the winter of 2021, I have grown an appreciation for journalists. Especially the journalists who travel far and live the life of those they document. So I am more inclined to pursue that route. Also I take on film photography as a hobby, it’s a way for me to document my life so I could appreciate what happens in my life in such a fast paced world. So taking on Addario’s career does not differ much from what I am already doing as a hobby.

Week 7 – Artist – Nan Goldin & Annie Leibovitz
Annie Leibovitz is a celebrity photographer. Her types of photography are studio shots. They are well prepared and set up. She has worked for Rolling Stones and Vanity Fair. The pictures below are my favorite work from Leibovitz. The picture of Lance Armstrong is my favorite because it depicts the peak performance body of the athlete's respective sport. As a person who plays sports, I appreciate the physique he has obtained through years of training. The photo is also dynamic as it depicts Armstrong riding his bicycle naked. As if it’s giving an X-Ray shot of what the movement of an athlete looks like when they’re riding a bike.
Tumblr media
Nan Goldin photographed people in their element, capturing people’s lives. Her work can be comparable to that of a photojournalist as to how a lot of them are capturing people's lives. Some of the motifs of her work involve drugs and alcohol usage and sex. My favorite work of hers is Trixie on the Cot. The reason why it’s my favorite is the emotion that the subject is portraying. The person seems sad and lonely. They seem to be depressed and are coping with cigarettes and alcohol. Once in a whole you find yourself being lonely and deep in your thoughts. You just want a can of beer or two to help you feel relaxed.
Tumblr media
I consider Nan Goldin’s portraits to be more honest and authentic than Annie Leibovitz as it portrays how people act and look in their daily lives. That is not to say that there is nothing wrong with Leibovitz’s “manufactured” portraits. I would say that those pictures are the refined depiction of a person. What they want to be perceived, and that is ok. People want to be perceived by their best foot forward.
If I could choose, I would choose Annie Leibovitz to take my environmental portrait. I, like many other people, want to look my best when my photo is taken.  Especially when I’m not very photogenic. I want to look my best.

Week 6 – Artist – Camille & Sarah Elgart
Sarah Elgart is a choreographer: she has a long resume working in stage, film, television, music videos, circus, alternative venues, and more. Elgart also has direct and producing experiences as well. She likes to explore the idea of a "stage"; she often has her performance in public places like airports, bus terminals, corporate plazas, gardens, and museums. Elgart dance has a fluid and expressive style, and the costumes reflect that. They are made with soft and loose fabrics, which allows the movements to look more fluid and flowy. The dancer's movements are big and full of energy.
Camille is a French singer, songwriter, and actor. Her more noticeable work is for the song "Le Festin" to Pixar's 2007 film "Ratatouille", and voiced the role of Colette for the French dub version.
Between these two artists, there are moments where I could say they were in the zone. There are moments when I can see Elgart or her dancers seems like they are totally entrance in their dances. Since the movements expressive, the dancers need to really feel themselves to move the movement. They need to be committed and feel the dance. As more Camile, her live performances can really show when she're in a flow or not. When she starts off, she typically starts off slow, but when it started going, you can see she's feeling the music and the beat. You can see that she's being taken over by her music and really enjoy what she was doing. It looks like she was losing herself in the music. Even though their artform are different, they are both expressive. It takes full commitment of the performer to sell to the audience what they were doing. If they don't go to this flow, their performance would feel restrained. Dancing and singing aren't so much different when you think about it, both are trying to convey emotions through their performances.
During automatic drawing, I was listening to Camile's album, so my drawing and my movement were subtly influenced by her songs. But also when I was moving my pencil, I was thinking how similar my line were movement in this fluid movement similar to Elgart's dancing. I was being expressive with my hands where they were expressive in their voice and body movement.

Week 6 – Art Activity – Drawing II
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With this map activity, it really shows how little I know about the CSULB campus. But this also makes sense because of Covid-19, I have spent a lot of my college career at home, online. I also spend most of my time on the East side of the campus, particularly moving between the design building and the parking structure. So the rest of the campus are very much unknown to me.
Tumblr media
My automatic drawing was interesting, it started off slow, but then when I was getting more comfortable, I was doing whatever I liked. Doing it someone can feel odd initially, but once I got comfortable and took the lead, my partner was willing to move with me. My tempo was changing, the pressure I put down was changing, I was having fun. Near the end of the exercise, I realized I was moving to the Le Fil album a little bit, I was listening to it while doing the exercise. I was feeling the music and moving with it, so I don't know how much of that was automatic because I was influenced by the music. I would not describe this feeling as being in the zone of flow. Being in the zone is when a person is doing something they are master in, not when it's the first time they are doing it. This week's drawing is more expressive art drawing rather than traditional drawing style. It's more about expressing the feeling of the drawer, it can be abstract.

Week 5- Name Painting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this I want to write my initials. I want the letter to look sharp and expressive. The typography was easy, pencil is much more controllable. But when I more to spray paint, it was much harder. spraying paint were far more difficult. It's a bit of an intimidating medium to work with, simply because of how uncontrollable it is and how permanent it is. However, it was fun, I would like to do more spray painting.

Wk 5 – EC – Bomb It
Through this documentary movie, they explain the history of graffiti and street art. and how it spread and changed throughout the world. Through the movie, the graffiti artists explain that they do what they do to empower themselves and their community by speaking out. A lot of people started bombing and tagging because they want to be heard and be known in this society. This is because they feel like they have been silenced by society. They want to bomb because they want to destroy the system, it's an act of rebellion for them. They explain that since the places they tags are public space, there is nothing wrong with tagging those spaces. They pay the taxes so they should also do what they please in those spaces. The side that wants to bomb places and leave their mark on a public space could be consider the chaotic side of graffiti. There is also another side that is more artistic. Some people turns to graffiti to be the medium for their artistic expression. These are the people who don't want to, or unable to, go through the conventional art route. These people paint on places that are legal, they don't want to vandalize anything. They simply want to create art and have it view by everyone.
After watching the documentary, I have a deeper appreciation for graffiti and street art. I never liked tagging or bombings because I consider them vandalism. If I was the business or home owner, and I worked for years to decades of my life to own a business or house, and a couple of people comes and destroy what I have worked so hard to establish, I would be extremely mad. So I have always hated taggers. However, seeing that the people who tags are typically people who society have failed them. Their rebellious action is a cry begging to be heard. I could empathize with them more. As for street arts, I have always been a fan of street out. As pure aesthetic value, it gives the environment more alive. Artists often like to use lively colors, and dynamic lines to bring the area it paints to live. Also, since it's in public, it's more accessible. Therefore the artist can send out their message to a wider audience.

Wk 5 – Artists OTW – Takashi Murakami & Liar Ben
Takashi Murakami is Japanese artist who is famous for his merging of fine art and popular culture. He is like reference colorful anime and manga cartoons to create abstract paintings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Liar Ben is a Vietnamese urban artist. Born in 1990 in Ho Chi Minh City. Ben started making graffiti when he was a boy of 14. Ben dropped out of Ho Chi Minh University of Fine Arts. He is now a full time artist and co-founder of Cơm Hộp Saigon with his friends. It's a company that collab with artists to sell merchandise of their arts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Artists Similarity
The two artists are quite similar in their art style and approach to art. In terms of art styles, they seem to belong to pop art. They both like to depict cartoon characters. They like to deconstruct and distort their cartoon characters. There seems to be an “explosive” and energetic energy to their art. They both use vibrant colors.
Both artists are also trying to be more commercial with their work. Murakami has been doing this for a while, by selling prints, figures, accessories, etc. Liar Ben is starting to become more commercial himself. He started a group/ website where they can sell artists' works.
Artists Differences
Murakami created a few cartoon characters he focuses on to sell his merchandise. Liar Ben does not develop those characters yet. Besides painting, Murakami also does sculptures, Liar Ben doesn’t do any other medium besides spray paint. Murakami has developed a unique style of his own. Whereas Liar Ben’s style varies a little, and he has yet developed a completely unique style that is his own.
Difference between Gallery and Street Art:
Their strength and weaknesses
Gallery art and Street art are quite opposite of each other. They have a few differences. Gallery art is more inaccessible while street art is more available to the masses. Gallery arts are displayed in a closed environment whereas street art is out in public. This factor brings out a few strengths and weaknesses of each form of art. Being in a closed environment of a gallery, allows the artist to manipulate the environment so it could be better viewed by the audience. Being in a closed environment that is not easily accessible to people, also helps filter out the type of audience for the art work. Audience who would take the artist’s work more seriously. Since the audience are going out of their way to view the work, they are willing to spend more time examining the work and interact with it more. This allows the artists to explore more ways of delivering their message. Their message could be less obvious, that requires more time to examine and dissect by the viewer. However, being not so accessible to people, the artist’s work won’t be seen by many people.  If the artist’s goal is to have their work reach as many people as possible, they won’t do such a successful job if they display their work in a gallery that needs commission to enter. However, with the age of social media, this has stopped being the case. Another strength of gallery art is that the artist potentially could make more money. Gallery art is considered a high class thing, so there is more potential to make money or recognition through gallery art. However, with that factor, the barriers an artist needs to go through could be more difficult, because there are more competition.
Street art’s main strength addresses gallery art’s weakness. Since the work is out in public, it allows more people to view it. This is especially important if the artist’s main goal is to reach as many people as possible with their work. The weakness that comes with this factor is their work might not receive the same respect as the gallery work. So the street artist needs to put in extra effort to make their work attention grabbing. Since it’s in the public, a wide variety of people will see the work, so the artist would need to make works that are more digestible, easier to understand, compared to those in a gallery. In street art, an artist has more barriers to entry. They can start tagging walls and roads. The artist’s work can be seen by more people without them having to go through the ladders of a convention artist.
If I were to choose I would be a gallery artist. For me it’s about the control over my work and how it will be displayed. I want to be in the comfort of a studio or my studio to create my work. Then only when I’m proud of my work can I show it to the world. Street artists have to create their work in public. Additionally, in a gallery, I can curate my work how I please so the audience viewing experience can be optimized. I can control how the audience views my work and the order they go in viewing the work. Being in a not so accessible environment also allows my work to have the respect it deserves. People will be more willing to examine and interpret my work more rather than a quick glance.

Art and My Major
Large Project for Future Execution
I want to create a speed form for sculpture that is a resemblance of an automobile. There are many steps and processes that I need to do before I can have the final result I want. I would also need to be proficient at a program that would take weeks to be proficient in.
Materials, information, data, or other resources needed:
Paper
Verithin Pencil
Industrial Clay
Clay Modeling Kit
Alias or Blender (3D Modeling Program)
3D Printer (Optional)
The research I would need to do is to know how to use Alias and Blender, which are very complicated programs that would take weeks to learn and be proficient in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steps to execute this project:
I need to first come up with a design for the sculpture, which can take up to several days. I would need to design the overall look through sketches before I can decide the look I want to go for.
Then I need to sculpt it in industrial clay which can take a few more days. I need to sculpt it with clay first to get the idea from a 2D into 3D, to make sure that the form works and makes sense. There could be minor details on the surface area of the form that wouldn’t show up in 2D.
After that I would transfer the clay sculpture into a 3D modeling program.  I would need to transfer that I created as a sculpture into a digital file.
3D modeling would take the longest for me to do. As I need to be proficient enough in the 3D modeling program.
3D printing out the model would be optional. I would print it out if I have the chance, just to check the form of the sculpture in 3D.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Potential Problem:
I could have problems with sculpting the clay. I am not good at that skill. It might take me longer than I would have wanted.
I could also have problems with the 3D modeling program. Learning a new program is hard so it would take a while for me to both learn the program and work on the project at the same time.
In order to determine if my project is successful or not, I would ask for feedback from peers (fellow designers and artists) at each stage of the project: drawing, sculpting, 3D modeling. I would need to bounce ideas with my peers and get feedback. I know myself well enough that I doubt my ideas and abilities frequently, so I need people to give me honest feedback on my work in order to progress to the next step or be satisfied with what I have.
Design often blends or crosses roads with art so I would say that design will be enhanced by thinking about art. Both fields have an overlapping commonality of trying to create things that would bring out certain emotions in people. Artists can make their audience feel angry, sad, happy, etc. Similarly, designers try to make something that people want by eliciting certain emotions from the look of the product; it could be classy, elegant, fast, dangerous, etc.
However, since art and design philosophies are different. Artists create art to express their own thoughts and opinions. Designers create things for other people. So thinking like an artist can inhibit a designer in ways but can enhance them in other ways.
