in regards to ur post ab what Jaime would be doing in terms of college after high school !!

If he’s becoming a medical doctor, he’d have to get a bachelors degree (4 years) in smth like biology or health sciences before he could go to medical school so right out of high school he’d probably do that. (usually ppl just refer to this as ‘pre med’ but that isn’t an actual major) and he could do that at just about any college as far as I know so it’s reasonable he could stay in El Paso. it’s basically the same story for dentistry tho I don’t think all dentist schools require a bachelors degree to get in but it does help to get accepted. after that finding a medical/dentistry school to get a doctorate from would probably be when he might have to travel to find a good school.

also by his third year he would probably be studying/taking aptitude tests

also also it’s reasonable he would start at the end of August, every school district starts at different times tbh lol

this is some good stuff right here i’m definitely filing this away as some much needed reference for future chapters and fics, it’s definitely helpful for others who might also be in a similar position as me :)

omg, i’m honestly impressed 😭 like i always struggle a lot with 90% of the fancasts i see, to a point where l physically recoil lol but this one has definitely outsold all of them, i hope that anon sees this, i’m gonna link this to their ask ! it’s possibly they had something shorter in mind considering S3,4 but i do think it definitely helps a lot as a reference because even with his short hair it’s still kinda messy at the front because of his bangs (? idk what else to call them lol)

100% agree about the windswept especially because of the running, also it adds an extra charm to him that i feel like it rlly completes him, i mean what even IS bart without the charm of his hair (which is why full head cowl flash suit is a big X, this was his flash runs first mistake, and the reason why I need YJ season 5,6,7 to rectify this pls and thank u)

Anyways, college in the US is so insanely expensive, so it might depend on his and his parent’s finances.

If they don’t want to spend student loans (or if he isn’t sure what he wants to do), he might choose a community college (still expensive, but less so).

I feel like he would go to a four year college though so here are some things I kind of know (as a community college goer; not first hand experience)

College in a different state is more expensive

Most first years are required to live in the dorms (so they can take your moneyyyy)

I’d recommend looking up colleges in El Paso to see what’s going on there

All that said… Texas is famous for having a bad education system lol. So keep that in mind

He also might not have a car depending on how much parking costs (and how easy it is to find parking at whatever college he may go to if it’s a 4 year). My best friend had to leave her car at her parent’s house from that first year and just walk/bus everywhere because parking was so expensive and difficult

this is so helpful genuinely !! i will be looking into everything u mentioned, and from what i gathered it aligns very nicely with what i already had in mind for my next chapter (and jaimes early 20s path in general)

on the one hand there’s always the possibility that the rich ppl of the JL (looking at u bruce) would pull that surprise scholarship stunt, but it doesn’t account for living costs which i imagine along with moving to another state would just elevate it to a ridiculous level. and i imagine bats only really does this for extreme cases where any other alternative would uproot the affected persons life (a little stingy of him if u ask me).

YJ Reyes household seem to be doing relatively alright for themselves, i imagine they must have some savings at the very least to support jaime in his education to some extent. i don’t see jaime trying to balance a job (beyond probably helping his dad out at the garage) with his education which takes priority (AND vigilantism) so it’s possible in his third year he’s either moved back to his folks place or sharing a flat with housemates (if so then i HC them as brenda and paco lol) or something. he probably has some loans, or maybe the JL has some system that qualifies the kids for scholarships idk 😂

that parking thing is crazy, life has become very unserious honestly 🥲

as a non US american i think i need advice with this but where do y’all think YJ Jaime would study right after high school? in El Paso ? some other state? and is college the right word ? is it likely he’d live in dorms ? like honestly idg the US education system at all sometimes, even with Google’s helps 😂 and more specifically what’s he doing in third year is he probably doing any medical disciplines or aptitude tests assuming he’d want to become a dentist/doctor of some kind

i’m inclined to have him still be in El Paso because i like the idea that his Brenda Paco friendship (and some plot) forms after highschool, but idk if it’s realistic to have him go to college in El Paso or not, like idk wat considerations might need to be accounted for 🤔

Y'know what keeps me up at night?

The fact that Bart probably didn't know a better childhood than the one he experienced, which is why he could probably deal with it relatively well because life just sucked and he had to make do with what he had

But imagine him seeing how different life is in the past?? Watching Don, Dawn, Lian, etc. live a happy childhood without pain or experiments or anything, watching them be happy, bubbly little kids who are safe and loved

I can't imagine him falling apart over it, but more like him taking a deep breath, silently reflecting his own childhood and this moment, serving as an extra drive to make sure that the Reach will never, ever, come back, even if it's the last thing he does, just to make sure those happy baby giggles never fade

this is literally everything

especially that bit of him “deal(ing) with it relatively well” because yes, that’s exactly it, it’s all he knew of what life could be (at the time) surviving at his time didn’t just mean living to see another day, but making the most of it too. obviously he eventually recognised the bigger picture that it was in his own words basically not a life worth returning to, but to reach that stage in the first place, he couldn’t have let his childhood drag him down

regarding ur next points, that’s exactly why i feel so strongly about him helping out at the MHYC ! he recognises his (insanely earned) privilege of where he is today, and the kind of life he has achieved, it’s such a given that he would want to help all these other kids (especially victims of meta-trafficking) out to get them a second chance in life. like it’s truly so personal to him.

but honestly it’s devastating thinking about his affinity for helping out at Iris’ family daycare event, honestly thinking about what u described, it’s devastating. the weight of him seeing kids (his literal dad and aunt) being so free and safe, it’s actually crazy. ppl probably think he’s just being sweet, rather than understanding how much joy seeing all these things could possibly give him. like wow

Your last chapter was soooo good (I totally did not spent the next two hours after reading obsessing about it) So you mentionned in a post that you thought that the bit in your fic where Jay talk about when Bart was first settling in with them, Barry and Wally told him that he was getting very overwhelmed at the mall, referenced Golden Age but I can’t help but wonder if that would not be instead a reference to The Way Home by iammyownqueen on ao3. Because in Chapter 5 of this fic there is pretty similar scene where, precisely, he freaks out at a mall while being with Barry and Wally. Especially since Jay also mentions that at first, they found Bart sleeping on the floor, which is something that also happens in The Way Home, at the end of chapter 5. If I’m right, let me tell you, you have incredible taste in fanfiction because, in my opinion, The Way Home is as amazing as Golden Age, I would recommend it to any Bart stan that haven’t read it ! Sorry I hope that I was not annoying with that question !! But I couldn’t stop thinking about it I need to know (and I’m pretty sure that you haven’t bookmarked The Way Home).

i really appreciate ur comment so much because i’m a HUGE fan of iammyownqueen’s bart fics, honestly i think they’re probably THE author that really got me to start reflecting on Garrick x Bart family dynamics and The Way Home is absolutely one of my favourite all time bart fics (and a fave among their works too!!) i was so sure i had it bookmarked but i realise i bookmarked the collection that it’s a part of “Garrick Family Fluff” rather than the fic itself so it might not be the easiest to find there! at the time i wanted to bookmark every single fic and thought that was a faster way of doing it 😭 next time i log in i’ll definitely make sure to rectify that because honestly i need everyone to read it lol these type of asks don’t bother me at all, i really welcome them because it’s pretty clear by now my book keeping abilities r subpar 😅 so i appreciate every single input i can get ! i couldn’t agree more with ur recommendation, it rlly is a fantastic series (and thank u for the fantastic taste allegations as a matter of fact everything i consume is the best LOL okay jk)

most if not all of their works, whenever i read it, i feel like i can easily imagine it taking place in S2 and it felt incredible ! i’m not usually a major fan of fluff type of stories, but the way they executed it, they struck the perfect balance to bart’s morbid backstory, and let me tell u, i ate it right up.
