‘ You make it sound like I am one of those FAMOUS snobs, I love talking to average people, I mean I consider myself average just…skinny.’ She joked softly towards the other, adjusting the scrap of her purse on her shoulder. 

“You’re anything but average. But, I’m not gonna argue with a really hot girl that’s down to earth.”  Masaomi winked in her direction as he shoved his hands into his pockets. “So, what brings you to this boring, old town anyway? I thought Tokyo would be more up to your speed. Especially during this time of year. All those V.I.P parties must be pretty sick.”

Akabayashi chuckled, leaning her weight on her cane as her lone eye briefly scanned him. “Good to hear.”

She liked his spiritedness. It was a tad refreshing compared to all the serious faces she dealt with on a daily basis.

“Nah, s'been pretty peaceful lately. Cold too." It didn’t seem like there was much need to be guarding the line right now. Seems the stunt Mikado had pulled proved quite the scare.

“How’s Mikado, by the way? And… Anri-chan?” 

Masaomi’s smile faded slightly at the mention of his best friend. Thing’s had been.. different between them since the big showdown in Ikebukuro. They both had a lot to answer for and talk about, but it seemed that neither could really take the first step in doing so. 

The former gang leader would never say it out loud -- but it hurt. If Mikado asked him to jump, Masaomi wouldn’t even bother asking how high because he’d already be gone. Now? The tension they shared had caused the teens to distance themselves from one another. And Masaomi had no idea how to go about fixing it. 

“Mikado’s doing fine,” he said with a strained grin. “Just as nerdy as ever.” 

His usual happy-go-lucky facade had made a resurgence when the topic switched to Anri. 

“As for Anri, I’m still waiting for her to confess her undying love to yours truly! She’s rejected me about five times now, but I know I’m slowly chipping away at the ice surrounding her sweet, little heart.”

“No need to be so modest. You’re, like, the pride and joy of Japan! Everyone loves you. In fact, I’m surprised you’re even talking to an average guy like me. There’s no way I’m going back to school without telling my friends.”

Mikado: Nope, absolutely not.

Celty: I hope it sucks, whatever you're going through.

Namie: I hope it emotionally scars you for the rest of your life.

Shinra: I hope you reach out to me so I can ignore you.

Kida: I can't wait to go to your funeral, knowing I could've changed that outcome.

who is more likely to hurt the other? they’ve done it already backwards and forwards and sideways over and over in different ways but ultimately, if there was an endgame hurt (and we came soooo close to it) it would be mikado doing the hurting

who is emotionally stronger? lmao anri. they’re both hella insecure and fractured in different ways

who is physically stronger?  take away the weapons and cellphones (and pens /weeps) and when it comes to basic brawlin, probably masaomi

who is more likely to break a bone? they’re both equally capable of breaking their own and others’ but kida had a fucking open metacarpal fracture for an entire episode just hanging out like nbd which gave me nightmares so that colours my answer a little maybe

who knows best what to say to upset the other? mikado, if we mean deliberately

who is most likely to apologise first after an argument? echoing your response of verbal apology = mikado. apologetic actions = masaomi

who treats who’s wounds more often? when they were kids, it was mikado, seeing as masaomi had set himself up to be ~an emperor’s vassal early on (do u still cry about the name translations bc i do 24/7) and the ~protector~ but over the years they remained in miserable isolation, they just tend their own :)

who is in constant need of comfort? neither…although i think they both need frequent validation

who gets more jealous? dude i still want the mikado-saki verbal throwdown but then i also think about how masaomi saw mikado&aoba and went blank, so there is that

who’s most likely to walk out on the other? they’ve both done it. coin-toss over who would be most likely to do it again although my hope is that they finally just learn from their mistakes and Stop Being Dumb

who will propose? i struggle to see a universe where mikado gets over his self-loathing to such an extent where he can actually ask this of someone, anyone, until maybe much later in life and maybe with a lot of therapy. so until that point, it would have to be masaomi

who has the most difficult parents? idk about difficult but both were pretty crappy at monitoring their kids activities :/ 

who initiates hand-holding when they’re out in public? masaomi 9 times out of 10

who hogs the blankets? gang wars in the streets turn into gang wars in the sheets & it’s a mutual struggle

who gets more sad?  mikado likely has a harder time moving past everything, if that counts

who is better at cheering the other up? mikado needs more cheering up and kida has had ages of practice but yeah agree with kida being v low maintenence in this regard :’)

who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes? idk man that square root of 3 joke will always be pretty endearing!!! but masaomi’s bad pick up lines are not always pg and then he has to get elbowed in the ribs or something to stop

who is more streetwise? masaomi officially started the ~thug lyfe~ in middle school so that probably counts for something

who is more wise? lmao they’re both really not

who’s the shyest? mikado

who boasts about the other more? i cant believe you brought up the hotpot ova and now i can’t decide either!!

who sits on who’s lap? don’t we have kida like literally leaping at mikado every 3 seconds in the first half of the first season? i’m sticking with that.
