Latest project. A salute to the US Camel Corp, 1856 to 1866. An experiment by the US Army to use camels (one AND two-humped camels) as beasts of burden to transport goods from West Texas to Southern California. The Army’s horses were reportedly terrified of them! Cheap household tiles on backerboard.

HOMEGROWN #1. Has about $40 in 3/8-inch glass tiles in a 99-cent frame bough from Goodwill. ‘Grouted’ with red & blue hot glue.  NFS. Will trade for cannabis. Really need to see this in person to appreciate!

The previous photos show my outdoor mosaic studio in the desert. All tools were bought on sale at Lowes/Home Depot and include a tile nipper, wheeled cutter, an Amazing Tile & Glass Cutter (from England), a tile cutter & pistol grip glass cutter (and goggles & gloves)
The other photo shows my tessarae table filled with tessarae in the plastic containers, as well as soon-to-be tessarae.  I am too cheap to actually BUY ceramic and glass tiles, so my tessarae are random tiles, plates, color glassware & mirrors purchased from local Goodwill stores to be smashed in a canvas bag with a hammer. The plastic containers also come from Goodwill...

Welcome To My Mosaic Art Page
My name is Kim of Home-Grown Mosaics located in The Great American Desert Southwest! This Art Blog is to highlight my patriotic stoner mosaics as well as other non-traditional mosaics I am currently working on. I will show daily progressions as well as the finished piece. Just a side note that I have been smoking marijuana for pleasure since 1971 at the tender age of 14. I have never tried anything harder than alcohol. Except for the Vietnam War & Watergate, the 70′s were a great decade! Ronald Reagan ruined everything!!!
