// piltover and zaun are environments ahri is still very slowly getting used to. zaun seems to be more used to vastaya, but even a society with many vastaya is one that makes her feel outcast: it only makes her miss her species.

this conflict makes her avoid human crowds and it makes her avoid vastayan crowds. yet, she still has some hope, if she hangs around more vastaya, she'll learn more about her kind, that maybe, there is more than she'd been assuming.

the bar is a loud space. a lot of the vastaya here don't seem to be pure blood, it's a society that accepts mingling a lot more than ionia does. she'd been silently observing vi for a while, then, when she's finally worked up the courage to say hello, a drink is shoved in front of her.

vi's annoyance catches her off-guard initially, then she smiles, with a slight chuckle.

" for greetings. it's non-alcoholic. " , she speaks, clarifies, points at the drink. it's more fruit juice than anything else. " I wanted to say hi. I'm still getting used to.. vastayan company. " her own tails sway behind her, before wrapping around each other in an attempt to appear.. smaller. it is uncomfortable to be so open. " or is it you'd rather go already? "

// katarina aims to give talon the opportunity to grow on his own. but it itches at her to watch him make all the wrong choices. she should be helping him, help him dismantle all the lessons their father had instilled in them. yet, they're things that still nag at her mind as well, they're impossible to escape, anytime she does anything she hears his voice and how he'd expect her to do it.

where swain had given up, katarina couldn't ever bring herself to. she'd lived everyday hoping her father would change his mind, or that she would just magically fall into place. what kept her alive these nights is the fact that noxus always accepted her, regardless of anything.

she shows the strength the empire requires of her. and it makes her feel strong. enough. swain makes her feel accepted, too. he trusts her and it makes her feel good to be trusted, have someone be sure of her strengths.

the du couteaus are weapons. they were born to be nothing more than tools. in an environment where social standing is everything, they were meant to never be more than a tool in someone's hand. talon embodies this perfectly. katarina not quite. she is, ultimately, a weapon in swain's hand, but he lets her be herself.

she nods absentmindedly. " talon and I have always been different. " her hair falls into her face and she wipes it aside. " I didn't want to hurt him. " she doesn't understand how he could bring himself to. how, when father told him to, it didn't go against everything inside of him and he didn't tell him no, that's his family, his sister. had father ever expected anything similar of her, she would've never accepted a mission such as that. she wouldn't make talon her enemy to please marcus.

he seems to be content doing that. and it tears her apart.

" I didn't want to do it. I don't know why he'd think I'd take any.. pleasure in it. " she'd already talked about this with drann, and she'd given her more comforting words, but swain is someone she trusts as well and while her current display may be social suicide, in the presence of someone who can already read all of her secrets, she hopes it is okay to display her weakness.

🔴 - Swain is familiar with the very subtle movements, of pain cleverly hidden. If he wasn't intimately hyper vigilant of his own movements, he would otherwise not have noticed. Concealing one's regular pains as if they were absent ticks of scratching and dusting oneself off. To be visibly seen as something so weak as to still ache after battle, was something akin to social suicide in Noxus.

"One can wish for change, but hope leaves things open. Even if a revelation could save a world of pain, we can only watch. They have to be the ones to choose- if they ever do. Often they do not." Swain remarks, gentle firmness in his words. Though, there's an air of resignation. Swain had given up on his family members paths. He is not attached the same way. He did not wait for them to change.

"How similar people can be, and yet make impossibly different choices. Alas, you cannot make someone understand that you could help them."

// the thought that talon would be afraid, not for himself, but for her, that he would be afraid at all hadn't even occured to her. he speaks and it makes her halt, in shock, like he's said something that she could've never expected, something that shook her to her very core.

talon doesn't get afraid. it's something he's tortured out of himself, that every noxian has banished from themselves, because to show yourself vulnerable is to ask for everyone around you to smell your fear and devour you in seconds.

fear makes you a target. talon admitting fear first makes it sink in that the many times he critizes her way of fighting, her way of being, her way of honoring the country that raised her does not upset him because it's not the way father would want her to fight: but because he's afraid. she envisions the possibility that it might even keep talon up at night, to imagine that she might be in danger, that he's afraid she might get herself killed. he's afraid that one day he'll get word his older sister got herself killed in battle.

it's something she'd accepted so inherently of noxian nature, that she forgot you are supposed to fear death. she still does not. but she fears the pain it might inflict on talon. katarinas eyes wander over him, her head tilts, before she reaches out, something in her eyes that is way too akin to pity.

afraid. talon looks at her not with disappointment but with fear, worry, concern. he doesn't repeat father's words because he is disappointed but because he truly belives he'd said them to keep them safe. " tal, I choose the death I deserve. "

the words she say don't quite reassure. she does not intend for them to. " when I die, I will die honoring noxus and knowing my life was worth fighting for, and that's okay. " death is just another aspect of anyone's lifespan. it's inevitable. she will meet kindred, and when she does, she'll trust them to make the right choice. " I'm not afraid to die, tal. "

but it aches. it asks for something that listens, she had felt so uncoordinated. jericho's arm dissipates and it's an awkward reminder of who the man in front of her really is: just a cripple that any other noxian would've thrown a jab at by now. katarina doesn't. she respects the man in front of her too much for that. but she's aware that even she is showing how taken aback she is at the fact he feels comfortable enough to show his losses.

she could never tell talon. she doesn't think he'd feel well knowing what he'd truly done to her. marcus would only be more disappointed in her, more ashamed of her. there was no way she could've told anyone in her life.

her working eye wanders over swain, and she sighs. " it feels stupid. " she should get used to it already. but sometimes it flares up and sometimes she's even upset at talon.

the breath she lets out shows obvious relief. like there was a right answer and swain had spoken it. comfort. empathy. it's hard to come by in noxus. it's another one of her shortcomings. she can't find the words to speak, opens her mouth and closes it, but all that comes out is slightly anxious breaths. her gaze wanders off. " sorry. I guess I just needed to tell someone. "

She was not sure if the item on the desk was actually already complete. If she were honest, Jinx's whole working space was full of gadgets in various states of assembly. Isha had pulled a small round beartrap-like item closer and was dangling a piece of wood over the sharp iron fangs. Poking it into the centre of the device, there was a whooshing of air as the trap closed and clamped its fangs around the twig.

Isha gave a shocked squeak at the fast motion and scampered backwards. The beartrap fell over, the stick half severed. The little Zaunite poked her head over the desk and picked up the stick. Staring at the cut the device had made, she scurried over to Jinx who had been sitting on the couch.

Climbing on the couch, next to her, Isha patted her hand on her thigh and gave a low sound, waiting for Jinx to give her her full attention. Excitedly, she thrust the damaged stick in her Mama's face and mimed the motion of the trap with her other hand. She then did their made-up sign for "building" and cocked her head at Jinx in curiosity, making a questioning sound.

// in jinx' humble opinion, nothing is ever complete. it's always a work in progress and she's always going to be capable of picking something back up and continue to work on it. the infinite possibilities entice her, there's no way she would ever call something done and finished!

of course, there is a certain state she wants her inventions to achieve before she can even take a break working on them. the distraction isha poses initially threatens a headache - he doesn't enjoy being interrupted and it pulls him out of his thoughts unpleasantly.

remembering it's isha calms her, her eyes wander from the bomb in her hand to the girl in front of her, then back to the bomb. when isha pats her thigh, it makes her move her head more and she looks at her properly.

before she expresses that she would've rather not been interrupted, she'd let isha finish and decide whether to be upset or not. when all she does is ask the obvious it makes jinx let out an exaggerated 'pfft', and a chuckle.

she's still annoyed, but she can't bring herself to be mad at isha.

" what's it look like to ya? " , jinx speaks, turning a wrench in a wrong way and almost immediately accidentally drops the device. it stumbles in her hands, but she catches it before it falls on the ground.

she lets out a sigh of relief, and signs in return along with her words.

" the usual. you got a great severed stick there. don't hurt yourself. "

// jinx sees beauty where there is none. silco sees a monster and knows that is what he desires to see, he does not mind that all he sees is a monster. it's what he's had to become: if he truly desires to shape zaun the way he wants. it will not let him proceed if all he desires is beauty.

noone else would ever describe him this way. he does not understand why jinx says this. her words aren't unwelcome because of this, but they do come at a small surprise. he hums a small tune, dips the make-up pillow against the scar on his face.

" I don't do this for beauty. "

it's to conceal. not because he's ashamed, or afraid, but because if you conceal the monster, it is far easier to gain the trust you desire. if you appear appealing, that is half the work. so he stands up straight, he dresses well, he wears make-up and is well-spoken, because this is what will get him what he wants.

Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time. Why are you sticking your nose in their business anyway? It’s not like it matters. They’re not a person, they’re just a role being played. They’re the guy who fixes things and saves people. Please ignore the man behind the mask, he’s fine. Everything’s fine.

// silco is a man who is so used to betrayal. he expects it at every corner. he's more surprised when someone doesn't betray him, than when they do. there's few people he trusts that they won't do that to him, and even those he knows, given the right circumstances, there'll always be something they'll choose over him and he won't fault them.

betrayal is an essential part of his life. it's how he's become the man he is now and it's how he continues to keep ahold of his power.
