Really feeling like a lot of hate towards Billy, along with classism and anti victim sentiment is because of his very obvious bipolar disorder and the vilification of non anxiety/depression mental illnesses.
Like just go onto a Billy antis page and see how many of them still use terms like narcissistic abuse, sociopathic abuse, borderline personality or bipolar abuse. It’ll be a lot.
And the thing is Dacres portrayal is really fucking accurate. The depressives I already expected to have a fair amount of accuracy in them but the manic episodes. Like the infamous car scene- if you look at the way he’s driving, the facial expression, listen to the tone of his voice- he’s manic. And that’s not even getting into the Karen scenes from a perspective of a manic or a depressive. But I will say the things an adult is willing to do to a teen who’s having an episode of hypersexual mania is TERRIFYING.
And the things antis say about him is literally the shit folks will say about real people with cluster b’s. They’ll be like I don’t care if Billy was portrayed to be bipolar, it doesn’t excuse- and then literally pull out this list of symptoms.
It’s the same shit I see with bpd, aspd, low empathy, tic disorders, delusions or psychosis. Zero empathy for anyone for *scary* mental health conditions, unsurprisingly a lot of which are linked to trauma or literally just genetics.

Honestly, this shit with Hogwarts Legacy is just like what happened with Chick-fil-A like ten or fifteen years ago. Some of y'all might be too young to remember it, but it went almost exactly like this shit today, only the target was technically gay people (not like we aren't all lumped together when push comes to shove, but gay was the political scapegoat in US politics at the time, as trans people were still on the fringes of social awareness).
It came out that the people who own Chick-fil-A were donating to organizations in other countries that were actively working to get gay people there killed, and were also very monetarily invested in stripping gay people of any legal rights they'd amassed in the US. So a lot of queer folks were asking for allies to boycott Chick-fil-A to show solidarity.
And it turned into a giant fuckin circus for bigots to rally around. There was even a support Chick-fil-A day, I remember it because I was a server at the time and our restaurant was empty most the day - while the line for Chick-fil-A down the road was like a mile long consistently.
But while that was obviously annoying, that wasn't what hit people the hardest. Cuz we expect clowns to wear the shoes, right, it's not shocking.
What disappointed people, or really demoralized a lot of young queers at the time especially, was the allies who would still go there. Because they like the sandwiches or fries or whatever. The people who'd march with them in the parade or be supportive of marriage equality, who would then turn right around and give their money to people who were trying to actively harm their friends.
Because the chicken was good.
I remember a friend of mine being really just absolutely broken up over that, trying to understand some of her friends reasoning and at the time I couldn't give her an answer. I could now, though.
And it's this:
Talk is cheap.
It costs nothing to say things. A person can say whatever the hell they want, any feel good flowery thing, and it doesn't really cost them.
But when they are asked to actually give something up - or put their money where their mouth is and just....can't do it. Well then there isn't much else for them to say, is there? At least nothing that's worth anything.
Some people had to find out the hard way that the choice between a chicken sandwich and funding people who did not believe in their dignity as a human being was, in the eyes of certain allies, apparently really hard. Too hard, in fact.
These allies would march in the colorful parades and go to the bars for drinks, but in the end, you couldn't actually depend on them to inconvenience themselves. They were fair weather allies, and they were there for the party and that's about it . They wanted entertainment, and it didn't matter if that came from having fun gay friends or a tasty sandwich.
This is the same thing, really, or pretty close to it.
These types of people just wanna have fun. Either you, their friend or whatever, are fun or the game is fun, and if you stop being fun by incidentally making them feel a little guilty about where they spend their money , then they might just choose the thing that doesn't make them currently uncomfortable.
And I'm not saying these people who say trans rights online but who also really, really want to play wizard game and already have are horrible people or anything - they're just not very good. They have no real character. And unfortunately there's not much you can do to change that, other than investing time and energy in people who do.

commissions, again
hi! I’m currently studying at university and I’ve gone broke so I’m opening my writing commissions! I’m a pretty quick writer when I’m given enough to work with and have a pretty strong background in writing, I’m willing to provide sample writing(you can also find me with the same username on ao3). I primarily write Stranger Things, I’m very familiar with writing for Harringrove/Mungrove/Steddie stuff but I’m willing to write for other stuff!
My prices are negotiable but I won’t go lower than like $3. I can do payment through Venmo and Paypal, I personally prefer Venmo but either works. You can contact me through my inbox or direct messages on here and if you don’t want a piece consider giving me a reblog <3

Hi, Salem Massachusets is a really fun place to visit, but while you’re listening to the accordion-playing werewolf and eating your caramel apple, please also remember the names of the people who died there in 1692-3, most of whom were executed by a corrupt justice system for a crime that didn’t actually exist:
Bridget Bishop
George Burroughs
Martha Carrier
Giles Corey
Martha Corey
Lydia Dustin
Mary Eastey
Ann Foster
Sarah Good
Unnamed infant of Sarah Good
Elizabeth Howe
George Jacobs
Susannah Martin
Rebecca Nurse
Sarah Osborne
Alice Parker
Mary Parker
John Proctor
Ann Pudeator
Wilmot Redd
Margaret Scott
Samuel Wardwell
Sarah Wildes
John Willard
There are two memorials in town, one at the Charter Street cemetery, and the other at the site of the executions on Pope Street. Please visit them.

the duffers have to HATE steve because they genuinely do not address any of the trauma he goes through, most of it is either never mentioned again or is framed as a joke, other characters consistently talk down to him and call him stupid, his opinions and plans are never valued or even listened to. and he is literally the only reason a good portion of the other characters are still alive (nancy and jonathan were absolutely about to die at the end of s1 before steve came back, billy would’ve definitely hurt lucas and probably the others a lot more if he wasn’t there in s2, and in s3 steve literally taunts the russians so they hurt him instead of robin and serves as a distraction for dustin and erica to escape)
yet we are never shown him being comforted or even just worried about? no one ever expresses concern for him, even medically/physically. a lot of the injuries he gets are probably very serious yet he continues to fight monsters immediately after being hurt and no one cares. steve should’ve immediately gone to the hospital once they got back from the upside down after lover’s lake but he just continues preparing to fight vecna. it’s honestly a miracle he isn’t dead, he absolutely has to have physical trauma somewhere (most likely his head/ears/eyes and torso)
steve is also the only character that is consistently badly hurt every single season, because he’s always protecting everyone else. steve is under appreciated by MARGINS and is actively made fun of and belittled. in order to add to the plot, the duffers continue to play with his feelings and not let him be happy, either with his romantic life or his friendships (being jealous of eddie, his only non-14 y/o friend being robin). he is such an important character and i fully believe almost every character would be dead w/o him.
he has no one to take care of him or worry about him, basically lives alone in an empty house with bad memories, is either stuck on his ex-girlfriend or just unable to find love, constantly ridiculed and made the brunt of the joke, probably very physically injured- not to mention the BOATLOADS of mental and emotional trauma he has that goes unaddressed, and yet people wonder why he’s a fan favorite?
