i’m definitely disappointed that babs isn’t in the new birds of prey lineup but it seems like she’ll at least be important to the plot? and apparently the team will be switched up a lot, so this lineup is only for this arc (but hopefully at least cass and dinah stay) and maybe later on babs will take on a bigger role

also i am so glad that cass and dinah are on the team, i feel so-so about harley but if she’s written well i don’t really have a huge problem with it! i’m gonna be hopeful until we get a real preview

Ok, not to make another rambling Helena post, but I really wish that DC had taken the time to explore Cass and Helena’s relationship more thoroughly pre52. Like they’re mirrors!!

Cassandra Cain is raised in an abusive environment from infancy, spending her childhood training to become a weapon. Helena Bertinelli grows up in a wealthy and loving household, sheltered and unaware of her family’s crimes.

At 16, Helena returns to Gotham. After encountering Batman, she quickly latches on to him as a symbol of fear—someone that uses abilities like hers to make the mob afraid, someone who understands vengeance. She wants to follow in his footsteps.

During No Man’s Land, Helena becomes the Bat. Bruce takes the suit away from her. Not long afterwards, he gives Cass the same uniform.

Helena Bertinelli should get Batman legacy rights for wearing the mantle during the No Man's Land crisis. Because she wasn't trying to replace Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, folks. She was trying to replace Bruce Wayne's Batman. She called herself The Bat. She saw herself as acting in Bruce's stead and several people thought she was him for months. She specifically told Bruce "Gotham needed a Bat" and he implicitly accepted that justification. She's not the third Batgirl; she's the fourth Batman. She should get credit for it.

ASOIAF/GOT/HOTD theory that just hit me like lightning

the maesters were sexist westerosi outsiders who mistitled the three conquerors: aegon was the dreamer, visenya the conqueror, and rhaenys the ruler.

aegon brought the seven kingdoms together bc of his dream of the long night but visenya was the one with the conqueror's temperament. the line of targaryens descends from rhaenys bc aenys was a velaryon-sired bastard(in order to maintain the valyrian beauty and divert suspicion from aegon being impotent) and "aegon's dagger" was actually hers originally.

even though all three targaryen heirlooms are equally important - THE DRAGON HAS THREE HEADS - the average westerosi citizen/noble regards them as unequal. blackfyre is considered the king's weapon bc aegon wielded it, visenya was a woman, and a dagger is just a dagger. but the truth of it is, blackfyre(aegon's myth) protects the order amongst the kingdoms, dark sister(visenya's will) protects loyalty to their family, and catspaw(rhaenys's blood & subsequent children, "of my blood will come the prince that was promised") protects the realm/life.

the loss of blackfyre thematically parallels how the seven kingdoms have been growing more separate/unbalanced. the loss of dark sister signifies how the targaryens are eating themselves alive with each generation rather than protecting one another. finally, rhaenys' dagger is the only heirloom still in circulation bc even despite these things, at least two targaryens yet live that could protect the realm from the cold and the dark-
