Any movie aficionados have any guesses on this one? (Subtitling help request.)
Edit: With huge thanks to @arwenadreamer and @sensitivehandsomeactionman, the mystery has been solved... Good Will Hunting!
Original Post:
I'm teetering on the border of just letting this one go because I don't think the context is very critical to understand Jared's point, but I thought I'd check here before I gave up!
I can't figure out the movie(?) he says after Lawrence of Arabia. This video was recorded in March 2008 at LACON so it has to have been something known by then. He implies that he's referring to "great movies and classic movies", so I don't think it's an obscure example, I'm just not much of a movie watcher.
Things I've considered but couldn't convince myself made sense:
The Wanting (This is what it sounded like the most to my ears, but in the context of "great movies and classic movies", I couldn't find anything that seemed relevant.)
The Haunting (This might fit the context better, but I can't convince myself he's saying Haunting because I think there's definitely a 'wa' sound in there like in "won" or "one". Unless he stumbled over the word and accidentally reversed the vowel sounds, pronouncing it huanting? Which actually does sound a lot like what he's saying.)
"the one thing" (This was a grasping-at-straws interpretation, but it doesn't really sound like that to me. My theory behind this was that maybe he only listed one specific movie and then changed to being non-specific such as "I can say this thing or that thing or the one thing or the other thing".)
It might also be in another language, or a name more common in other countries? I tried looking for titles with "Juan" for example.
I also read long lists of two-word movie titles starting with "The"... after which point I decided I'd probably put more effort into this than it really warrants. 😂 And maybe the first syllable isn't even actually "The", but that's all I can hear.
If the consensus is that he probably just misspoke the word "haunting" or something like that, I'll just leave it as [inaudible] and not put anything in the sidebar for it since I don't feel like we can be very confident. But I thought maybe there's something I'm missing due to lack of knowledge that would seem obvious to someone else and would make everything make sense. It wouldn't be the first time!
Whether you have some miraculous answer or just quietly listen and shake your head in perplexed commiseration, I appreciate you all for letting me occasionally drag you into my subtitling madness. 💗💙 (On the bright side, the audio for this panel was actually pretty good and most of it has been easy to subtitle. It was a breath of fresh air after that breakfast video!)

New Enhanced Edition - LACON 2008 - J2 Breakfast
youtube
Direct link to video. Link to YouTube channel. (24 videos available.)
Here's my newest video, the J2 breakfast from LA in March 2008.
Of all the conventions that badly need the "Enhanced Edition" treatment, this one is surely high on that list. Even if you don't normally use them, I recommend turning on the subtitles this time. For some reason Jared and Jensen were only given a single microphone to share, which meant one or both of them often didn't use it at all. I ended up with many of the dreaded [inaudible]'s, but I think I did pick up a lot more through repeated listening than what most people would catch from a single casual watch-through.
Footage Found/Recovered
I mentioned this in the "What's Next?" section of my last video announcement, but I had the great fortune to make contact with Candygramme while searching for videos for this project. She has a beautiful 4.5 minute clip from the breakfast video that you'll see around the middle of the panel. That portion of the panel was covered in other videos, but not in such good quality. You can see the difference in my comparison images below.
Due to camera battery difficulties, she wasn't able to capture Jared's solo panel or the first half of Jensen's, but she did catch the second half of Jensen's and the entire main J2 panel. She has a little under 3 minutes' worth of coverage that's not covered at all by any other videos I've seen, plus I counted about 8.5 minutes where she was the only one who had Jared in the frame along with Jensen during the main J2 panel. There's a lot of fun banter between them in that panel so being able to see both of them makes a huge difference! I don't believe her videos are on YouTube, so a lot of people may not have them and I'm excited to share them.
What's Next?
Jared's solo panel from this convention is next. Unfortunately this one will have a lot of gaps. I have about 21.5 minutes' worth of footage.
Jensen's solo panel will follow that one, and then the main J2 panel. I have full coverage for both of those, along with the new-to-many-of-us footage as described above.
Before/After Comparison Photos
The first comparison shots from Candygramme's footage only represents 4.5 minutes of the video, as mentioned above. The rest will look more like the second set which was the source I used the most of. So most of the video quality won't be great, but you can see the expressions on their faces a little better in the enhanced version so I'm hopeful people will consider this to be an improvement over whatever they might have watched before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A recap for anyone not familiar with this project…
In December 2023, I started a project to enhance old convention videos. The project is mostly focused on Jared and Jensen, but there will occasionally be videos with other actors. I'm upscaling the videos and making other visual improvements, adding extra content to clarify various references, and adding human-generated, color-coded subtitles so you can better understand the sometimes-chaotic audio. The subtitles can be auto-translated to other languages via YouTube.
My goal is to publish the best, most complete, and most watchable versions of these older convention panels yet seen, but this is only possible thanks to the fans who captured the footage in the first place and were generous enough to share it with other fans. My video descriptions on YouTube will always credit my sources.
If you have any old convention videos you'd be willing to contribute to this project, please message me! I can also be reached at [email protected]. If I can get them to upscale (I can't always), I'd happily send the upscaled files back to you for your own collection whether I use them or not.

Jensen: "YouTube, bring me a farting Panda!" (LACON 2008 J2 Breakfast)
This post is intended to provide context for something Jensen said in the LA 2008 Breakfast panel. I plan to publish that video on June 13 and my video description on YouTube will link to this post for anyone who wants more context than just the screen shot and blurb in the sidebar. A video clip is shown below from the show Jensen was talking about. For anyone who follows my videos, it might be useful to have this context in advance so you can better appreciate Jensen's reference.
On March 30, 2008, Jensen said: I saw this thing on TV last night. I don't know the guy's name, but it was just a clip of a commercial for a show and it was just talking about the accessibility of YouTube. And the guy says, "YouTube, bring me a farting panda! [claps hands]". I had to pause the television 'cause I was laughing.
The show in question was "Root of All Evil". It aired on Comedy Central in 2008 for 18 episodes. The premise was that the "judge", Lewis Black, would pit two people against each other to argue about which of two things was the most evil.
The episode Jensen saw the commercial for was episode 4, "YouTube vs. Porn". It aired on April 2, 2008, 3 days after this panel, so he definitely saw a promo for it and didn't necessarily watch the show.
In this episode, a comedian named Patton Oswalt was arguing against YouTube in favor of porn. I edited together this video to show the portions of his argument that were most relevant to Jensen's quote, leading up to the quote itself. This is my own edit from the episode. I don't know what parts Jensen actually saw in the commercial aside from the part he quoted.
Patton Oswalt did a similar bit at a club called the Purple Onion, I think 3 months earlier, but Oswalt paused differently when he said the phrase that time. Based on the timing and Jensen's description of what he saw and the imitation he did, I'm pretty confident that what Jensen saw was a promo for the episode in my clip.
We will not talk about how long I spent trying to find confirmation of where his quote came from or a clip that had it. We also won't talk about the fact that I paid $2 for the privilege of watching this torturous 20-minute episode without even being 100% sure I was watching the right thing. And that was why I did it -- I live in fear of putting inaccurate info in the sidebar because I can't edit it after I publish it, so I wanted to know for sure that this was the source, and I wanted a relevant screen shot for the sidebar.
(Let's also not talk about how loudly I squealed once the elusive phrase was finally uttered. And we definitely won't talk about the fact that I did chuckle at parts of the episode.)
After all that effort, I felt like I needed to share the fruits of my labor, even if it's something most rational people won't care about. A mere screen cap with a brief blurb in the sidebar of my video was insufficient fruit, so I made this edit. Hopefully nobody is going to come after me for sharing 64 seconds from a 17-year-old TV episode, but I thought I'd be better off putting it here rather than risking my YouTube channel.
If the whole fandom already knew this and has a clip of this portion of the episode tucked away someplace -- or better yet the actual commercial! -- that may need to be something else we don't talk about. I'm not sure I even want to know at this point! (Actually, I do want to know.)

Possibly my most controversial opinion for the wincest fandom (probably fandom period) is at this point in my fandom tenure I wish that people would just foster and encourage creative fandom spheres where people can make fictional fan content that they're interested in without having to worry about someone breathing down their neck for allegedly "making/enjoying something wrong," instead of spending time being upset about what other people did in their own sandbox with their versions of the fictional blorbos they also like playing with.
I also think fandom's focus on who has the most accurate meta take on the show and their perceived ownership of fictional blorbos is what feeds most of the discourse we have that fosters the salt, anger, bitterness and, at times, toxicity in fandom.
If people like focusing and exploring one note of the source material rather than the full piece and they keep making content for themselves and like-minded people, awesome for them. If it's a cup of tea that I can enjoy, awesome. If not, I'm not gonna join their sandbox playtime. The show's over and nothing anyone does in fandom can change the original source material that finished originally airing five years ago.
I am sorry that people are upset that they're seeing fandom content that they don't vibe with. But, I want to note that most fan creators aren't specifically out there making spite works to upset you. They mostly happen to enjoy and interact with the source material in ways that, unfortunately, you don't and upset you for various reason.
Adding to that, I don't think making knee-jerk assumptions with your full chest about why someone would create a fan fictional work you don't vibe with is accurate or helpful; I.e. they're degenerates, one-dimensional Sam hater, one-dimensional Dean hater, ignorant, phobic, uncultured, uneducated, etc. It's just needlessly dehumanizing and alienating fan creators.
I just feel like there's more nuance to why people explore our fictional show the way they do that's not about us and isn't super our business to know why people id what they id. If creating a fan-fictional work helps a fan creator through the time they lived in real life more power to them. I think that's meaningful, possibly more than blorbo rights wars.
That being said, I'm sure discussions and criticisms about genres, and/or tropes can be and is productive. But I've seen some comments and posts that assign assumptions onto fan creators and devalue fans for being interested in a specific troupe while simultaneously boosting themselves as somehow the better fan. I'm not completely sure how these actions foster fans to feel free to create works that mean something to them and share it with others and encourage the longevity of our fandom sphere.
okay what are you guyses most #controversial opinions/takes within wincest fandom. aside from top/bottom stuff unless you have something seriously outlandish to say about it. mine are i do not want either of them to be fucking pregnarnt and i don't like ethel cain

New Enhanced Edition - Fangoria 2008 with Jared
youtube
Direct link to video. Link to YouTube channel. (23 videos available.)
My latest video is up. This was at Fangoria in Austin, TX in January 2008.
Footage Found/Recovered
My video is a little over 42 minutes long. There's uninterrupted coverage from the beginning of the panel up until 39.5 minutes in. After that, there are two gaps of unknown length that I couldn't fill.
Jewels667 on YouTube had 38 minutes' worth of great coverage for this event, but the videos had become private. (In 2021, YouTube automatically changed unlisted videos to private, so that might be what happened here.) I was able to make contact and they kindly made the videos public again, and granted me permission to use them for this project. I used 20.5 minutes' worth of their video and 31.5 minutes' worth of their audio. They had 3 minutes and 46 seconds of coverage that none of the other videos had and some of the better-quality audio. The videos have thousands of views, so a lot of you may have seen them before, but they were new to me and I was very excited about them.
@j2spntranscripts, who has incredible video-finding skills, also found two videos with 21 minutes' worth of coverage on DailyMotion that I hadn't run across myself. I didn't use a lot of content from them, but I did use a few minutes and it was very helpful to have another audio source to listen to when refining my subtitles. You can find the links on the aforementioned blog, or in the credits on my video description.
Audio
Jared called on fans in the audience to ask questions, and they didn't have mics, so they're usually very hard to hear. I determined which video source picked up the fan question the most clearly and included that in the audio. If it wasn't clearly audible in its original form, I increased the volume drastically and added some background noise suppression tools to try to make it as clear as possible. It helps a little, but there are still some fans who are nearly impossible to make out. You'll notice more audio fluctuations in this video than usual (mostly just when the fans are speaking) due to my sometimes-drastic audio manipulations to try to hear the fans.
What's Next?
I'm moving on to the Los Angeles convention from March 2008 next! While searching for more videos from this convention, I learned through an old post on LiveJournal that a fan going by the name of Candygramme had recorded some great videos from this event that aren't on YouTube. I was able to make contact and she generously sent me everything she had, so I'm excited to share them. The biggest treasure is the full video of the main J2 panel. She also caught about half of Jensen's solo panel and 4.5 minutes of the Breakfast. Her video quality was much better than the other videos I've found from this con.
For the parts of the panels not covered by her videos, the video quality will be very low and I expect there to be some large and frustrating gaps in Jared's solo panel. But the existing YouTube coverage of this con is limited and pretty difficult to watch, so I'm excited to put together something more coherent than what we have today, and I'm especially excited about the footage from Candygramme that newer fans have likely not seen.
Before/After Comparison Photos
The Fangoria videos didn't upscale, and the original colors weren't too bad, so you won't see a big improvement in video quality on this one.

Black Sky / Red Earth

Fic Title: Black Sky / Red Earth
Author: felisblanco
Artist: quickreaver
Genre: m/m, horror
Pairing: sam/dean
Rating: E
Word Count: 40-50k

Summary: So, according to some scary-ass dreams Dean’s been having, a couple of pre-biblical mega monsters––think Cthulhu vs Balrog on steroids––are gonna have it out on Earth, leaving the planet scorched dead, unless he and Sam stop some stupid kid from waking the damn things up. Like they aren’t already busy averting the first apocalypse! Seriously, Heaven and Hell can go screw themselves, far as Dean is concerned. Also, are they sure these are real premonitions? Because Dean’s pretty sure Sam isn’t actually planning to kiss him.
