Here’s a little tip.
If you’re being a shitty person and someone calls you out on it, don’t cry that the person is being racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc. Twice now since I’ve started RPing on Tumblr, I’ve encountered people who treated others absolutely horribly. One person cried transphobia and just now I was told I was racist for calling out the shitty behavior.
When you do this, it actually undermines your own cause and cheapens the power of these words. Being LGBT or poc does not excuse shitty behavior. You can be a minority and still be an asshole, and if people call you out on it, it’s even more shitty to try and use -ism and -phobia as a “get out of jail free” card. You aren’t immune to repercussions for your shitty actions just because you’re not white, cishet, and/or male. If you’re an ass, you’re an ass regardless of your identity.
In short, don’t use racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc, to try and get out of taking responsibility for yourself and your actions. When you do that, it hurts the entire cause you pretend to be championing for.
