I literally cannot stop thinking about how insane it is that assad zaman didn’t know he was auditioning for Armand like u are a relatively unknown actor and u go try out to be the vampires butler in a foundational piece of vampire IP, only to be actually cast as the oldest, most powerful vampire in the entire work and u inhabit that character so well that everyone watching cannot imagine this role going to anyone else, who else could capture that half blank half apocalyptic look?? How the fuck could he have ever just been rashid

The fact that Assad Zaman auditioned for what he thought was just the role of Rashid The Human, then was told “actually, you’re playing one of the main characters, an incredibly complex and fucked up 514yo vampire with layers on layers of deceit 😃 he’s also a fan favorite, no pressure!”, had a little freak out, and then proceeded to give us The Performance of All Time

assad zaman talking about armand: every time i get on set i get possessed for a few hours and wake up in my dressing room. also he’s a freak and wants that young old man bad
eric bogosian talking about daniel: i’ve always wanted to be a vampire also [spoiler spoiler spoiler]

Just losing my mind at the implications that the companions have all been trying to help Rook grieve Varric, and Rook doesn’t know
Emmrich, wise and long-familiar with grief, being told by Neve and Harding what happened; understanding why sometimes he overhears Rook’s muffled voice in the Infirmary, talking to no one. He takes Rook to the Memorial Gardens and mentions he talks to his parents, thinking Rook might be comfortable with the same. Rook lights candles and rings bells but Emmrich watches, sorrowed, to see Rook still seems in deep denial.
Neve takes Rook to the Wall of Light; a Shadow Dragon Rook knows just what this means but any Rook can understand the solemnity, the power of remembrance. Neve reenergizes Brom’s light and looks to Rook, hoping Rook will mention wanting to make one for Varric. Rook is kind and comforting to Neve, but Neve is lost in wondering why Rook doesn’t take the chance to open up. She can’t figure it. Maybe Rook just can’t face it, not yet. Maybe Rook does something privately. She isn’t sure but it nags at her.
Davrin’s not big on talking about feelings. He’d rather just move on. But he sees the way Rook seems a little hollow sometimes, a little distant; he sees how Rook takes so quickly to Assan. “Hey Rook,” he says, and invites them to come with him and Assan to safe places in Arlathan, where the woods are clean and green and growing, where real sunlight dapples through the trees. Rook always seems to love these outings, seems lighter afterwards. But Davrin feels a little confused in that Rook never seems to realize the outings are mostly for them.
Taash is another person not big on feelings. But they know how much feelings can twist you up and mess with your head. When Lace tells them about Varric they feel badly for Rook, and think to how they feel when they’re struggling. Epic fights, dragon fights, drinks with the Lords. Taash is perfectly capable of doing all that on their own. But maybe bringing Rook along will help get them out of their head a little bit. Does it help? Taash isn’t sure.
Bellara’s double-versed in grief after what happens to Cyrian. Rook helped her through trying to reach him, and Bellara wonders, in her own pain, if she can help Rook a little bit too. Especially if Rook is elven, teaching Rook about the braziers and the challenges is another tool she can share about her or their people, another way that might help Rook with their grief. Neve’s told her that the Wall of Light didn’t seem to help Rook much, but maybe a different funeral tradition could help them instead. Rook helps her light the braziers and Bellara feels her heart lightening, though she wonders at Rook, who seems more moved by Bellara’s reactions than anything else.
Lucanis is nearly as allergic to dealing with feelings as Davrin is, but he immediately clocks how Neve and Harding are acting, and asks what happened before he joined them. They tell him about Varric and that they’re worried about Rook, that Rook seems to just be shoving those feelings down without dealing with them. Lucanis is no stranger to that, but while it’s fine for him, he doesn’t want to see someone who risked their life to save him share that struggle. He brings Rook to Caterina’s funeral planning to show Rook it’s okay to admit the loss and honor it. When that doesn’t seem to make a dent, he falls back to his standard - lavish meals, small gifts, coffee. He knows it would help him. He just wishes it helped Rook too.
Lace hurts the worst after losing Varric and Lace is where Solas’ magic comes the closest to faltering. Rook can see Lace is down, she’s quiet, she’s afraid after what happens with the gods escaping; but Solas’ magic holds and Rook can still never see quite why. Lace would love to sit over drinks one night and share stories about Varric, but she sees that Rook doesn’t seem ready, and she doesn’t want to push. Instead she writes letters to Ma, to the Inquisitor, to Cassandra, to Aveline, maybe even to Hawke. She writes out her stories with Varric’s old quill and she carries a bolt of Bianca with her. A dozen times she goes to talk to Rook about him, and when she tries Rook turns away or changes the subject. It hurts, but Lace knows she can’t make Rook talk about him, and she hopes in time it will get better.
This just absolutely crushes me the more I think about it 😭
Edit: Varric’s death is Rook’s personal companion quest every other single companion tries to help them with, and can’t 😭😭😭

Neve Gallus things from The Streets of Minrathous that I find interesting. you know. in case you need it for fic or daydreaming or whatever: 1. Her prosthetic is dwarven-crafted metal. 2. She can conjure mist. 3. She can slow someone's bleeding with her magic for long enough to interrogate them which is very hot of her imho. 4. She rents a room with a third-rate bookseller. 5. She prefers to work on her own but being a consultant on templar cases pays better. 6. Her family has more templars than mages. 7. Neve once turned Elek Tavor in but he'd nearly gotten her killed the year before that so she considers it even. 8. She uses her time-slow magic! Which I don't think is touched upon in the game at all apart from the combat mechanic? Anyway there's an opportunity for interesting scenarios. 9. Neve's not a healer but she can patch up (her own) wounds well enough. 10. Neve freezes a dead Venatori Aelia's using to channel blood magic so the blood is lost. Throughout the story it's shown that Neve's a really quick thinker and knows her ice magic inside and out. 11. Brom doesn't die in this story so they kind of filled in some gaps in the timeline between The Streets of Minrathous and Veilguard. 12. Neve really really doesn't get enough sleep huh.

Anyone want to talk about how insanely powerful Neve Gallus is as a mage?
She's a laetan mage (meaning she was born to a non-mage family) so whilst she still would have had circle training in Minrathous, it won't have been as grand an education as someone of the altus/magister social class.
And yet, she can hold her own against a powerful blood mage (Aelia - who's definitely powerful because she can puppet people without being in the vicinity), and even protects Rook from Elger'nan's spell at the end of the dual dragon fight??
She throws up a barrier against an eleven God's magic, that has everyone else blasting backward, and it holds.
She can also do time magic (as can Emmrich), which has very bizzare canonical implications after DAI (Dorian's introduction with Alexius and the time magic...)
I'm biased, because she's my second favourite Dragon Age character (no one is kicking Cassandra 'Disgusted Noise' Pentaghast from top spot), but I'm not wrong here. Right?

Veilguard Modern AU Headcanons
... that spontaneously entered my brain. I dumped this into a draft document in about ten minutes and I'm gonna spend the rest of the night rotating them in my head like a microwave.
Davrin is a firefighter.
He could be higher ranked, but he likes the day-to-day job too much for all the paperwork of the Captain's role.
He takes it very seriously, and is ready to jump in anytime someone needs his help — being a hero is Who He Is. Some people think this gives him a big head, and yeah maybe they're right… but damn if he's not good at his job, so to hell with what 'they' think.
His teammate/best friend died and left him with Assan, a Malinois who's trained as a search and rescue dog.
He keeps Assan because he wants to honor his friend, but Assan misbehaves and takes a lot of time and energy to keep up with. Or at least thats what he tells you as he's buying another chew toy.
Neve went to law school ...
...but kept running into problems where the rules would be a barrier to the truth, and tended to favor those with the money to ignore them.
She now has a PI's licence, and takes on some important clients about twice a year so that she can spend the rest of her time working probono for folks who need someone to go to bat for them.
Technically she does always ask for payment from her clients, but a hot meal or good gossip usually suffices. She knows that doing little things for people now means contacts when she needs them later.
Taash and Harding run a gym called "Iron and Glory".
I don't make the rules.
Everyone knows that you have to know someone at the gym to get in and train there, but everyone also knows that Taash has a soft spot for people with heart. Mostly because their girlfriend gives them puppy dog eyes every time an underdog wants to train.
Taash specializes in weapons-based martial arts (Eskrima, Kobudo), Harding teaches self defense. They both find joy in teaching others how to take down opponents larger than them.
Harding and Taash sometimes ask Lucanis to lead Tai Chi, especially when Taash gets in one of their Moods.
Harding is also a professional archer, and tried out for the Olympics a couple years back. She didn't make the team, but she stuck around to help the athletes train, and loves to talk about how she helped them win gold.
Speaking of Lucanis, he runs a coffee shop ...
... that focuses on coffee that's meant to be savored.
His cafe has "No Wifi, Talk to Each Other" signs, and a specific set of tables that are meant for people that don't want to engage with anyone.
There's no paper cups, only a mismatched collection of glasses that he sourced from the town's yearly street fair and deep mugs that he ordered from the local ceramics shop. You have to bring your own mug if you want to take your coffee away.
Everything that's not made in-house is from somewhere else in town, because it's important to him to support his community.
He's technically a son of the big money in town, and he'll probably have to deal with that someday (especially since the true heir is getting a little problematic) but for now he's happy with his coffee.
Emmrich and Bellara are professors at the local college.
Emmrich teaches in the Religious Studies department, but likes to regularly co-teach a class with a professor from the Anatomy and Physiology department on the variety of rituals surrounding death and beliefs of the afterlife.
He has a research assistant named Manny who doesn't talk much, but is definitely trying to follow in Emmrich's footsteps. He's really good as a researcher, given enough encouragement.
Bellara is an experimental physicist, probably something in cosmology or the origins of the universe.
She's beloved by her students but consistently gets the "most unorganized" and "most likely to blow something up (on purpose or by accident)" comments in her student reviews.
