Opened in the 1930s and closed in 1999. Buckhorn Baths of Mesa, Arizona was once home to a motel, natural mineral baths and a large taxidermy collection. As of 2025, it remains vacant.
A few years ago, it was purchased by a new owner who planned to preserve it while also somehow redeveloping it into multi-family housing. Per The Mesa Tribune, the owner is currently focused on getting the apartments built and generating revenue. Plans for the historic structures’ ultimate use are still hazy.
I stopped by during sunset tonight - my first visit since 2022. It appeared totally abandoned so I wandered the property, looked in the windows and took a few photos. I noticed a few sad taxidermy animals left behind. I hope these buildings can be saved but after watching so many historic motels be demolished by greedy developers, nothing would surprise me anymore.
