10 New Trade Occupations Added to the Green List – Fast-Track to Residence Skilled workers in the following trade occupations will become eligible for the Work to Residence pathway under the Green List:
Metal Fabricator
Metal Machinist (First Class)
Fitter (General)
Fitter and Turner
Fitter Welder
Pressure Welder
Welder
Panel Beater
Vehicle Painter
Paving Plant Operator
Eligibility Requirements:
Must hold a job or job offer in one of the listed occupations
Have at least 24 months of work experience in New Zealand
Be aged 55 or under
Meet health, character, and English language standards
Meet the required wage thresholds:
$43.63/hour (or $90,750/year) for metal, fitter, and welding roles
$38.59/hour (or $80,267/year) for panel beaters, painters, and paving operators
Median Wage Threshold for Skilled Residence Visas Increased The new median wage for visa eligibility will rise to $33.56 per hour, impacting:
Skilled Migrant Category
Work to Residence Visa
Straight to Residence Visa
This update aligns with Statistics New Zealand’s June 2024 data and reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining immigration standards based on current labour market conditions.

Standard fee: $3,000
Pacific fee band: $2,450
Tourism Levy: $100
3rd-year health check fee: $325 (or $240 for Pacific applicants)
