I really like the more cartoonish style!
This is another commission! It's funny that I draw for a living but can't draw for my ship, so I use what's left over from what I earn drawing to commission drawings of my ship. It's a never-ending cycle 😔

Rex x Fem!Reader
Summary || He’s grown used to this routine, mainly the comfort. Rex loves the domestication—you. And he’ll also do anything to defend both.
Note: gonna write him being a husband more…
Tumblr media
You and Rex have settled into a quiet, somewhat predictable routine now that the years have passed. The hustle of being superheroes has faded into the background, replaced by the daily rhythm of home life. You’ve come to enjoy the normalcy that most people take for granted, and in some ways, it feels like the most precious thing in the world.
Rex, for all his bravado and impulsiveness, has always been surprisingly drawn to this domesticity. He loves it in a way that’s almost tender—just the two of you, your home, and the occasional chaos of being married to someone who’s been through as much as he has.
You glance over at him as he lounges on the couch, looking relaxed. His hair’s tied back loosely, the long strands just barely falling into his eyes as he flips through channels on the TV, obviously not paying much attention. It’s not like he’s ever been the type to sit still for long, but the last few years have softened him in ways you didn’t expect.
The apartment feels like your haven, a space where the two of you are just… people. Not Rex Splode and [Name] the superhero wife. Just Rex and you.
“You know,” you say casually, leaning against the doorway, watching him, “this is actually nice. No monsters to fight, no explosions, no world-ending crises.”
Rex’s green eyes flick up at you with a lazy grin. “Hey, we both know I’m not the guy to handle anything quiet for long, but…” He pauses, stretching out lazily on the couch. “Yeah, it’s alright. You make it work, y’know? It’s… good.”
You chuckle, moving into the living room. “Good? That's it?”
Rex shoots you a glance that could be described as fond, a rare softness breaking through his usual sarcastic exterior. “Alright, fine. It’s great. Better than dealing with all that chaotic crap outside. And I’ve got you. So… what more do I need?”
You raise an eyebrow at that. “Flattery now, huh? You feeling alright, Sloan?”
The usage of his real last name, his—it somewhere deeper then he thought it did. That last name of his, belonged to not only him. He hoped you’d want to carry it too.
Rex snorts, shaking his head with a mischievous smirk. “I’m always alright. Just figured I’d let you know… you’ve earned the right to kick back too. No more stress for us. At least not for now.”
You step forward, leaning over the back of the couch to press a kiss to the top of his head. “I’m glad you’re home,” you murmur, your voice softer now.
Rex’s response is a half smile that’s almost too shy for him. “I’m glad you’re still here. You and me—yeah, we make this work. All the rest of it? Doesn’t matter as long as I’ve got you.”
You smile, and the warmth between you fills the room like a secret the two of you share. Sure, you’ve seen your fair share of struggles, but there’s nothing quite like the comfort of knowing that no matter what the world throws at you both, Rex would fight to the end to protect this. To protect you.
“You’re alright too, you know,” you murmur, resting your chin on his shoulder.
Rex lets out a dramatic sigh, clearly rolling his eyes even though you can feel the way his arm instinctively pulls you in closer. “Yeah, yeah. I know. I’m the best. But don’t get too sappy on me.”
You laugh, giving him a playful shove. “I’m allowed to be sappy if I want.”
“Fine, fine,” he grumbles, then pauses for a beat. “You still haven’t answered my question, though. Dinner. What’re we eating? I’m starving.”
You pull away from him slightly, raising an eyebrow. “You really just want food, huh?”
Rex grins, the old mischief creeping into his eyes. “Hey, everybody fucks up. right? Even a guy like me can have a soft side if there's a good meal at the end of it.”
Laughing, you move towards the kitchen. “You’re impossible,” you call back, and he responds with a laugh that feels like home.
As you step into the kitchen, the warmth of the room feels comforting, familiar. You’re halfway through a laugh, the sound still lingering in the air, when you call back to Rex, who’s lounging in the living room.
“You’re an idiot Rex,” you tease him again with a grin, shaking your head as you start rummaging through the fridge. The faint sound of his laugh, a deep, effortless sound, follows you. It’s the kind of laugh that fills the empty spaces of a room and makes it feel like home.
You hear the soft padding of his steps as he makes his way to the kitchen, the doorframe filling with his presence. A casual shirt hugs his broad shoulders, his favorite grey sweatpants hanging low at his hips. There’s something about him now, older and with a quiet sort of wisdom that wasn’t there when you first met. The young, arrogant Rex has transformed into someone steady, someone who knows the value of the small, simple moments.
“Impossible, huh?” His voice is a playful rumble, but there’s no bite behind it—just the comfort of being together for years.
You roll your eyes, unable to hide the soft smile tugging at your lips. “You're the most impossible person I know.”
Rex chuckles as he steps closer, his hands finding their way to your waist. He pulls you in gently, his touch familiar and strong, as though he’d been waiting for this moment all day. The world outside can be chaos, but in this quiet kitchen, you and Rex are a unit, moving like two pieces of the same puzzle.
With a quiet hum, Rex pulls you into a slow dance. His movements are unhurried, almost like he’s savoring the moment. You rest your head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath your ear.
“I’m your idiot, forever,” he murmurs against your hair, the words soft, but they feel heavier with meaning now. He says it like it's a promise, and you smile against his shirt, your fingers tracing the lines of his back.
You smile at Rex’s words, his promise hanging between you both, soft and steady. You tilt your head back to look up at him, your gaze catching his. The flickering light from above dances in his green eyes, softening the edges of the usual sharpness.
“I wouldn’t mind that,” you reply with a playful glint in your eyes, squeezing his hand gently. The warmth in his expression tells you he doesn’t just mean the words in passing. This is him, here, offering something deeper—a quiet, unspoken commitment.
After a beat, you pull away from him, your fingers lingering for a moment before you step towards the stove. The dinner you’d left simmering on the stove is just about ready, and with the smell filling the kitchen, you can’t help but focus on the task at hand.
“Come on, let’s finish this up before it burns,” you say with a teasing glance over your shoulder, reaching for the lid of the pot.
Rex follows you, moving fluidly behind you. The comfortable rhythm of living together for years takes over as you both move in tandem, effortlessly falling into your roles. Rex grabs the plates, carefully setting them on the counter, while you stir the contents of the pot.
“Looks like it’s going to be perfect,” Rex says, his tone warm, his gaze lingering on you as he watches you work.
You shoot him a look over your shoulder, a playful smirk on your lips. “You only say that because you know I’ll take credit for it later.”
He laughs, a low sound, his hand reaching out to help you, passing over a dish. “I’m just here to assist the genius in action.”
The two of you continue in quiet companionship, setting the food out on the table together. Rex takes his place beside you, placing a dish down as you place the last one on the table. It’s a simple, quiet evening, but it’s full of everything that matters.
“You always make this look so easy,” you murmur as you sit down across from him, your fingers brushing his briefly.
Rex shrugs, leaning back in his chair with a grin. “Guess it’s just another skill I’ve picked up along the way… besides, I don’t mind taking care of this with you. It’s kind of my favorite part.”
Your smile softens, the moment stretching out as the two of you settle into the calm, the silence between you not awkward but full of the comfort of years spent together.
Rex picks up his fork, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “Now, if we can just get through dinner without any explosions… that’d be great.”
You roll your eyes but laugh, feeling that familiar warmth in your chest. You wouldn’t mind the quiet moments like this forever. With Rex, everything feels like it has its place, even the simple act of sharing a meal at the table.
