💬 Description 💬

Our Italian teacher prof. Romina Pajić encouraged us to take part in a student exchange event that takes part in Florence, Italy. 15 students from my school, including myself, were welcomed by Italian families. Each of us had our host who helped us to get to know more about their language, culture, customs, food habits, and traditions. We had a plan for this trip that we followed and each day we visited different beauties of Florence.

This association was organized in order to encourage intercultural exchange between various types of students. 15 students from my school were selected to take part in this event. We were in our second or third year of high school and we all had Italian as a mandatory subject. Aside from 15 students, 2 more professors took part and they represented our mentors and organizers of the whole trip as well. Our voyage consisted of 5 days in Florence where each of us was welcomed by a host and we spent those days with their families. Through this adventure, each of us had a chance to gain first-hand experience of the Italian lifestyle. My friend from class Elena and I had the same host, his name is Lorenzo. Our host was utterly kind as well as his family. They are most definitely one of the best memories I have of Florence. They made us comfortable even though our Italian language skills were not so good, they encouraged us to try our best. Furthermore, we had a trip plan and every day we would go to see different beauties of Florence.

So, here is a brief summary of the things we have visited and the things that we have done:

Day 1 - we started our trip early in the morning and we came to our final destination in the evening. After we were introduced to our hosts we headed to our temporary homes. The house, in which Elena and I were, was very big and beautiful. It was made in some kind of vintage style and it was said to be a perfect representation of a classic Italian home. Moreover, we get to know our hosts a little bit better. Firstly, we watched a movie called Enola, and afterward, we played some kind of a family board game. It was a very funny way of getting to know someone. As much as I felt shy and uncomfortable during the game it proposes a memory that is very dear to me.

Day 2 - there was a meeting for all students who have taken part in the event. During the meeting, there was held a presentation of the history of Florence as well as a short documentary on the same theme. After that, we had brunch in a meeting room which was very enjoyable. Moreover, we walked to the city center which was not so enjoyable taking into consideration that it was raining outside. In the center, we visited a museum called Palazzo Vecchio. Palazzo Vecchio is the most characteristic building of the square, in its entrance, we can appreciate the sculptures of Adam and Eve, the copy of Michelangelo's David and Hercules, and the Caucus. It is also the main symbol of the civil power for the city of Florence. I was amazed by it and I still cannot believe that it is real. We had a great guide who showed us the most important parts and thought us a little more about the history of the city. Even though he was speaking in Italian, we managed to understand everything due to his clear and professional pronunciation. Palazzo Vecchio has so many rooms that contain solely art pieces. You could spend the whole day there. Even for me, who is not much of an art person, this was an appealing experience.

Day 3 - we went to a small town Fisola which is a comune of the Metropolitan City of Florence. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of Florence. We did a quick tour of the town which includes the Convento San Francesco museum, the Area Archeologica, and Il parco di Montececeri. It was a great experience, we had the opportunity to see many ancient things from Roman emperors. We could go back in time and imagine what it looked like back then. After the tour of Fisola, we went back to the city center and had some free time to look around. It was a sunny day so we had a chance to make the best of it. We walked around and felt like there is no end because the center is so huge. Moreover, it is full of people and various stores there are so many opportunities for every tourist. So, after a few hours of wandering through the city center, we went to have dinner. Our hosts found a cozy Italian restaurant where we are pizza. It was a very satisfying thing to eat pizza in Italy I felt so happy and fulfilled. All in all, it was a great day, I enjoyed it so much. Aside from many things that I have visited, I made new friends and many memories.

Day 4 - this day was the most exhausting one. Firstly, we had some classes such as physics and chemistry. Although they were really interesting we were a little bit bored because we just wanted to look around the city instead of being in school. We got an insight into their school life and let me tell you it is not that different than ours. They are maybe a bit more reckless and relaxed when it comes to grades and academic achievements but the system is nearly the same. After school, we walked to the city center where we visited Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens. Boboli Gardens are part of the palace and date from the 1700s. They are separated into a few smaller parts where every part is completely different from than other. However, they are all so beautiful and you feel like you could spend the rest of your life there. Also from the top of the gardens, you can see a panoramic view of Florence which is one thing that makes their gardens unique and priceless. Furthermore, Pitti Palace is definitely my favorite one when it comes to art museums and places in the entire Florence. The things that I have seen there are marvelous I could not imagine that someone actually lived there it was like a fairytale. Every corner of the Palace was decorated and depicted, even the ceiling. The only bad thing about this experience was that I was a little bit tired so I could not enjoy myself at my full potential. Moreover, after visiting this beautiful palace we went back home and have some rest. In the evening our hosts took us to a karaoke party. It was really fun. One student from IB1 and I sang a song, Romale Romali - Ana Nikolić, because no one else from our proud country didn't want to. However, it was a memorable moment and I get excited every time I have a chance to talk about it.

Day 5- This day was our last one in Florence. We started it by paying a visit to San Miniato al Monte which is a basilica standing atop one of the highest points in the city. It is a Roman Catholic church that opened in 1013. It is very old but does not look like it at all, it might be because of the restorations so it has the look of any other church in Florence. Furthermore, we walked through The Rose Garden and it was so magical. There was also a fountain with golden fishes which makes this place even more surreal. Afterward, we went on to visit one of the biggest and most popular museums in the world which is the Uffizi Gallery. It has many art pieces by various famous artists. The funny thing about this is that I managed to get lost. I just stopped in front of some painting and wanted to take pictures of it but there were too many people so I waited for them to go away. When I took the picture I realized that there were no familiar faces in the room. I didn't feel scared since I knew that they are going to come back for me, and exactly what happened... Luckily no one else got lost and everything went smoothly. The problem with this gallery is that there are too many people and you need your personal space to appreciate the art and you cannot do that in a hall full of people. And on top of that, we were so tired and sleepy that we just wanted to sit down and have some rest. But it was a magnificent adventure. To end this tale there was a dinner at some restaurant where all of us shared our impressions and memories. It ended up so emotional because we knew that it was the end and no one wanted that. But that’s life. Weird, messy, complicated, sad, wonderful, amazing, and above all, epic.

⚜️ My friend and I went on a weekend trip to Vienna. 🥰 It was my first time visiting there. 👌🏼 We spend 3 amazing days that I am going to carry in mind forever. ✈️ We went by plane but I went home alone because she had to stay in Vienna for school. 😁🥳🤗

🥰 One of my dearest friends Katarina and I have wanted to visit Vienna together for a long time. 💘 We've known each other for most of our lives, we went to primary and middle school together and we went to the same high school until she moved to Vienna. 🍁 However, after she came for an autumn break here I decided to go back to Vienna with her and sped there one weekend and then come back home. 🛫 We went there by airplane, it was an hour-long flight. 🏩 Finally, we arrived at the hotel around 10 pm and decided not to waste any time so we took a walk around the city center. 💟 The city is so beautiful and I cannot make up my mind whether it is more beautiful at night or in the daytime. 🌆🌃 Luckily, it wasn't as cold as it knows to be in this period of the year. ☀️ In the morning we woke up around 9 am and immediately went out for breakfast. ☕️🍳We decided on having breakfast in Katarina’s favorite cafeteria, we ate some sandwiches, and they were delicious. 🥪🥐 Furthermore, we spend the whole day walking and visiting everything in the city. 🍱I’ve tried sushi for the first time in my life, it was a little weird but I liked it, I didn't throw up as I thought I would. 🍣🍡 At night we went to a bar that was on the top floor of one of the best hotels in Vienna. 😍 The view from up there was magnificent, we could see the whole city. 🥢 The next day, Katarina took me to see her campus and new school. 📚 It looked very neat and professional. 🚊 Afterward, she escorted me to the train which led to the airport. 😎 It was my first time being all alone at the airport and I found myself surprised because I didn't end up lost somewhere. 😋 It all went smoothly good and I safely got home. 😇 This trip was one of the best in my life and I will forever keep it in my mind. 🥰❤️🥳🤩

Reflection

🧡 Nadja has always been a good kid. She likes to play with everything and laugh a lot. ☺️ According to my father, even as a baby, she didn't cry as much as my older sister did. 😎 So, I gradually accepted to babysit her and make the most of this weekend. 😁First, in the morning I made her breakfast, and then we went to take a walk to the city center and the park. 🎡🎠 She played on the playground the whole evening and made some new friends. 🎈Afterward, we went home and she automatically went to sleep. 😴🥱 She was even too tired to cry when I said to her to go to sleep. It was hilarious, she was so sweet. 🥰 The next day, we stayed at home and watched Frozen for the 100th time. 🥶❄️ No matter how many ways we watch it she would always want one more time. 😂 At night, we went for a small walk, we saw a Bugs Bunny and she took a picture with him. 🐇🥕 That was the cutest thing that I have ever seen. 😍 This weekend was fulfilled with happiness and enjoyment and I cannot wait for another weekend like this. ❤️

🔆 This summer I've decided to find a summer job. 😎 My father offered me a place in the restaurant where he works as a manager. 👨🏼‍💻He offered me to work as a bartender and I accepted. 🍹 It sounded like a lot of fun and new experiences. 🤗

Since I was a kid I’ve always wanted to have a real job. 💼 For me, it represents an obligation from which you can learn a lot of new things and have various experiences. 🤗 When my father suggested to me the job of a bartender I was immediately interested. 🍽🤩 First of all, it is great. I don’t have direct contact with people at some point because I would take orders from waiters. 🍸 I’ve learned how to make coffee and some cocktails. ☕️🧉 I’ve been introduced to many types of people and their lifestyles. 😵‍💫 It was quite funny and interesting working there, although I worked 6 days a week for 8 hours It wasn’t that hard and stressful at all. 👾 However, after two months I got a little bored, every day was pretty much the same. ♨️ It was a great experience but I certainly know that it will stay just a summer job because it is too boring for me to be considered as a permanent job. 🥣🍴🥃🧃🧂🍷🥗🥘🥩🍟

In one of our Italian classes, we talked about Italian culture and traditions. 🇮🇹 We also mentioned their traditional meals among which there is a famous tiramisu. 🥮🎂Furthermore, in our workbook, there was a recipe for a tiramisu so I decided to try it with the assistance of my grandma. ✨

Reflection

I've always loved helping my grandma out in the kitchen. 👩🏼‍🍳 It's always so much fun and laughter. 🙃 When I was younger I once said that If I fail to do everything else in my life I'm going to be a chef in the kitchen. 👻💡However, the second I saw this recipe in the book I decided to try it and bring the cake to school for my classmates and teacher to try it. 🪄 My grandma was excited to help me too, she had certain suggestions just to make this recipe a little better but all in all, it was similar to the one in our books. 🛒 When I brought it to school it was gone at the speed of light. 😅 Everyone was so fascinated by this tiramisu, they even wanted more but unfortunately, there was not enough to serve everyone. 😜 Even the teacher told that it is very good. 😌 Our teacher is from Italy and according to that, we can say that she knows what's good tiramisu when she tries one. 😁 I was so happy and fulfilled when I saw the look on their faces, It was worth it. 🥰 We can say that the mission is completed, respect +. 👑

My friend Jovana and I went on a trip to Belgrade over weekend. 🥳 The main reason why we went there is because our friend Mina invited us to a celebration of her 18th birthday. 🤩 We started our trip on early Friday morning and we got back on Sunday afternoon. ⛲️ During that period, we visited many monuments and had a chance to get to know the city better.🏟🎡🎠🏰🚏

🛄 Reflection 🛄

I've always loved going to Belgrade. It brings me so much joy and happiness.😌 The city is full of beautiful places to visit and one weekend is just not enough for all of them. There are many parks and monuments as well as many interesting cafes and bars.🍹🎢🛹🎡 You have everything in one place, different vibes, cultures, and traditions. ♾️ It's so a huge city, you can do whatever you want and people would not mind, they just don't care. 🏎 The best thing about the city is that although it's enormous you have public transport which is almost free and you can be anywhere you want in less than 30 minutes. 🔥💯 People drive fast and also live the same way. My sister Jovana and I went for the weekend because of the celebration of the 18th birthday of our friend Mina. 🥳🎊🎉🍾🪅 We've known each other for about 5-6 years. We met for the first time during the summer vacation because we stayed in the same place during the summer. Jovana and I went there by bus and there were many pretty interesting and funny situations. 🚌🤪🤣🥸🤬🥶The celebration was great and it was pretty similar to our celebrations. 🙃 We also had a chance to walk through the city center and Kalemegdan. The weather was so nice it was sunny but not too hot. 🌇🌞 It was a really beautiful get-away weekend trip, I will keep it in my memory and I cannot wait for my next trip to Belgrade. 🥰🙏🏼

🇸🇮 Delegats from Slovenia came to our school. 📝They wanted to promote their literature on a very innovative way. 📇 We had a workshop where we were assigned to write our own poem by adding up the words that are not connected. 💌 We were separated in 4 groups and were given the newspaper to crop the words from. 🆓 We had a full freedom to do whatever we want and write about whatever we want.😁📚💖

Reflection 🖋

During one of our classes, the delegates from Slovenia came to our school and invited us to take part in their workshop. The workshop was about literature and how it can be presented in an innovative way. Namely, we were separated into 4 groups each consisting of 5 people. Furthermore, we were assigned to write our own poem but in a very strange way, by using words that do not make sense and do not rhyme at all in any order or shape. Our group decided to write a poem in the shape of serotonine, which is considered to be a neurotransmitter of happiness. However, we used words that are the opposite of happiness and by doing that we made something like a contradiction. We used words from various newspapers and magazines so we had many kinds and sizes of words, which made our poem even more interesting. Throughout the process I had fun and it was very fulfilling to write a poem with my friends.

I went on a one-day trip to Kupres with my friend Jana. 🥰 We woke up at 5 am and our bus started off at 6 am. 😵‍💫 We arrived at Kuper somewhere around 9 am so we had 7 hours of skiing in front of us… ☺️❤️‍🔥🌨✨

Reflection

⛷ Skiing has always represented one of my passions. I learned how to ski when I was 10 years old and since then I can’t wait for the winter to ski again. 🎿 Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that I’m like a pro in it but I can say that I know the basics. 🙃 However, Jana and I decided to go on a one-day ski trip. 🥳 This was her third time skiing and she was very good. 🏔 Firstly, when we came to the mountain we sat for a coffee to wake us up a little bit. 😎 Then we started skiing and, of course, falling. 😅 It was really funny. I had a backpack in which I had put my speaker so we also had music. 👻 And let me tell you, it was like as if you had brought a disco club to the skiing track. 🔊 I think everybody was looking at us but in the end, it doesn’t matter because we had fun. 🌲We also tried to go through the woods which was hilarious, we almost got lost. 🔆 Also, the weather was fine, it was sunny but still a little bit cold. When I got home I realized that my face has sunburned and the next day I was so red. 🥵 It was a little bit weird how I got sunburned in the middle of the winter but okay, things happen. 🤷🏼‍♀️Overall, this was one of the best days, I really enjoyed it and can't wait to do it again. 🥰✨😏⛄️🧊🏂

I started going swimming 3 months ago. 💙 I’m part of the swimming club Borac and we swim at the City’s Olympic Pool 3 times a week. 😌 There are around 7 of us in the group and our trainers are Jelena and Vuk. 🙈 In the group, there are many younger kids but there are some of my peers as well. However, I’m still the oldest one. 🥶😎🥳🥰🚿🛁

Swimming is known to be one of the most popular sports in the world. ✨ Aside from that, it is very beneficial. 💪🏼 Swimming increases your heart rate without stressing your body, tones muscles, and builds strength and endurance. ☺️ Also, it is very much a social sport, swimmers of all ages can take classes together, train together, or work with a coach in the pool. 🎉 Furthermore, swimming brings a sense of satisfaction and empowerment. Whenever I finish my workout my mood immediately changes and I feel happy and fulfilled because I did something good and beneficial for myself. I like how swimming makes me feel. But trust me, it is not as easy as it looks. 😳 Sometimes, during the training, I would get so tired and I would feel so existed like I cannot continue, then I would stop for a minute, make a pause and try to refresh. 😌 It was really hard to adapt in the first few weeks because it is a demanding sport where you have to comprehend with your whole body in motion. But in the end, you get used to it and the worst part of the training would be the end when you have to dry your hair. 😋 However, I learned how to swim at age of 6 on a summer vacation and since then I am in love with water, I could stay all day long on a beach. 🏝 I have always wanted to train in swimming but it has never seemed to be the right time, I would always find some excuse or obligation to prevent me from starting. 🔱Luckily, I started attending an IB program where students are encouraged to try new things so I decided that it would be a good idea to start. And guess what, it was… 🥰😜

✏️ My classmates and I went to volunteer at the 🇺🇸 American Corner Banja Luka. It was very interesting and funny. We cleaned it up 🧹, put the books in the order in the library📚, helped with preparing the presents for Christmas 🎁💝… and enjoyed everything that this place has to offer.

🎀 Reflection 🎀

For me, volunteering was always something that I do with pleasure.😇 It can be useful because it enables individuals to help others selflessly. And just that feeling of helping someone and doing something for the whole society is fulfillment for itself. 🥰Some will say that it is time-consuming and worthless but I think it’s quite opposite. 🔀 When you volunteer you gain certain skills and try many different things that you probably otherwise would not. 😎 Moreover, it is a great way for socializing with not just your peers but the whole community. 🌐 Furthermore, volunteering can also provide a healthy boost to your self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. 🥳 I enjoyed volunteering at the American Corner very well, it was a great experience and also I’m considering participating to be their permanent volunteer so this wasn’t just a one-time thing and I’m looking forward to more experiences like this one. 📝📚😇🙏🏼💖

My fellow classmates and I went to the theatre. 🎓 This event was organized by our school in collaboration with the National Theatre of the Republic of Srpska, so there also were students from other classes. 🤡 We watched an operetta (a form of theatre and a genre of light opera). 👻 It was comic opera that included spoken dialogue, songs, and dances. 🎹🎼����🎬🎤🎧👏🏻

Reflection 📆

Nowadays, people don’t understand the importance of art and self-expression. 🤭 They think it’s boring and time-consuming but it’s quite opposite. 🖋 We need it to stay sane, through art we can recognize various perspectives and ways of view as well as get to know different cultures and traditions. 🎬However, we watched an operetta called “Maid Mistress” and it was very funny but at the same time knowledgeable.😁 In a very interesting and attractive way, the acters passed to us an image of a woman in past society.🤡 They did that throughout singing and dancing so we recognized not just theatre as an art but also music, dance, and performing arts. 👨🏼‍🎨 Overall, it was so entertaining and enjoyable and I recommend to everyone to go to the theatre more often. It will be fun, trust me. 😁🎭😉

I went to American Corner Banja Luka 📍and took part in the workshop about financial literacy. 🖋 The workshop was in form of a presentation and discussion afterwords. The presentation was held by the director of the Banja Luka Stock Exchange, Milan Božić, director of the brokerage house Advantis, Branko Kecman, and director of the Pension Fund, Miloš Grujić.👨🏼‍💼🧑🏼‍💻

Reflection 📚

From my point of view, financial literacy is something that every one of us should have. Nowadays it has become a mandatory thing if we want to succeed in any way. ⚖️ I'm not telling that we all should be professionals in this particular area, but we should at least know some basics. 💸 I have always been interested in finances. When I heard that there will be held a workshop about it, I immediately participated.👨🏼‍🏫 It was useful, we have been introduced to several themes like savings, protection of personal property, various types of investments... 📊 My favourite part was at the end when we discussed how to make a smart investment. 👩🏼‍🎓 Earlier, I was considering studying finances as a possibility but now, after this workshop, I am becoming more and more sure of this idea. 🪄 For me, this was a very interesting experience and I look forward to more workshops like this one. 🤑

Activity description 💭

I went to Italy with my Italian teacher 👩🏻‍🏫 and one another student from my school. We were on the small island called Lampedusa 🏝, which is the southernmost part of Europe 🌍. We were there to commemorate and be a part of the “COMITATO 3 OTTOBRE” organization, which has become a tradition on this island because of the tragedy that happened on 3rd October 2013. ⛴However, a fishing boat carrying migrants from Libya to Italy sank off and at least 368 people died and 155 people survived. 😢 On the occasion of the “Day of Remembrance and Reception”, the project “WE ARE IN THE SAME BOAT” aims to strengthen the awareness and knowledge of young people of school age on the themes of migration, global interdependence, human rights, cultural integration and reception of migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. 👩🏼‍🎓

Reflection ❤️‍🩹

This was my first time in Italy and I adored it so much. Now I can tell Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world for sure 😍. Their people are so decent and kind. I have tried so many different things on this journey, and this refers mostly to their food🍦🍕🥐 .Also, it was my first time ever traveling by plane and I enjoyed every second of it ✈️. I even thought to myself to become a pilot one day but that thought, unfortunately, did not last long. 😅 One of the best things that happened is that I got to meet new people, make new friends.🌐 There was, besides ours, about 50 other school from all around Europe. 🥳 We all had the same program in the school of Lampedusa where were organized many workshops. 🤝 So I have learned many new things about migrants and refugees and the importance of human rights. It is just sad when people don’t understand that we are all the same and that we should all have some respect for each other. 😩 We have to learn to remove prejudice and stereotypes because it is the only way to live in peace. ✌🏼☮️🕊😌
