     Breathe in. Slowly, calmly. There is nothing to be nervous over. Well, except, there is. There is and you know this. You know this too well. The helmet resting in your gloved palms is evidence of this, the weight heavy. Just like the weight of everything else on your shoulders. The weight of so many lives, of your guilt, of your burdens that you refuse to let other people carry.

     Like the one in your palms.

     Breathe out. You try to steady yourself. You’re prepared. You’re so, so prepared, and yet you aren’t at the same time. As much as taking lives is easy to you, as much as bloodshed and hate and anger are all you know, you know that this is different. This is different than the military commanding you to slaughter. This is different than the Geass kicking in and you saving your own life while someone else loses theirs.

     This has all been planned from day one. It’s still just as haunting.

     You stare at the reflection in the helmet’s visor, hard stare fixed on the tired eyes and the gaunt face. It stares back at you and you find yourself shivering. That’s not you, you died a long time ago. The face that meets yours is Zero’s.

     Zero.

     The mantle you will assume. The title you will carry. The life you will live and your fingers tighten on the mask. It is your duty to carry out. For both yours and his sake.

     For tomorrow...
