i was thinking last night about how amused drystan ( tristan ) would be to find he'd been inserted into a romance. in my head, he's much more aligned with merlin in that he's a strategist focused on minimizing casualties. where merlin was the macro, drystan was the micro, so to speak.

merlin was war and drystan was politics. he was where a good portion of political suggestions came from. drystan understood where the pockets of resistance where in the oncoming storm of the holy roman empire. he helped tintagel stand firm by helping forge those alliances.

galeas ( galahad ), on the other hand, was much more of a romantic. having been adopted by lancelot at a young age, he got to see, first hand, all the pining he'd done over guinevere's perseverance and beauty. he got to see their love and how arthur was made to be a functional piece of that.

little did lancelot ever know that, at a very young age, he would be tasked with fatherhood. yet, one fall morning, when he and several other knights ( not quite of the round table, yet ) rode out to defend a part of the kingdom against members of the holy roman empire, he would find a tiny babe in the midst of rubble and ash. no one else seemed to have survived except for one of the horses, but the poor thing took off running before anyone could try to reclaim it.

merlin was the first to suggest they take the wee thing to nimue, as often happened with abandoned children. both he and lancelot had spent a good amount of time under the druid's roof. what was one more?

yet, the longer they rode, the more lancelot felt as thought he couldn't just hand off the babe to someone else. what kind of person would that make him?

and so, lancelot named the child galeas and raised him as his own.

the other knights took to calling the child galahad. it was a group effort to teach the young boy what it was to be a knight. whenever lancelot was confused he turned to either lady igraine or nimue on guidance. especially, after he seemed to show a slight proficiency for magic.
