Rant about my OCs (Naomi and Junichi) because I can’t stop thinking about them recently and I guess they’re just pretty personal to me

One of the things that I enjoy the most about their characters is that they are both fundamentally lonely people but for different reasons. Junichi is lonely because socialization doesn’t come naturally to him due to childhood trauma— his parents dying when he was a preteen, not in a painless accident but due to illness. Obviously that was scarring because he had to slowly watch his parents pass away but also being a chubby kid in Japan meant he got fat shamed like crazy. Trauma -> maladaptive daydreaming and making stories to cope/ escapism -> maladaptive attachment -> how he is now, lonely and needy but struggles getting close to people in the first place. When he does get close to people he tends to become dependent on them/ get “annoying”

Naomi is lonely not for a lack of people in her life- she has a pretty intensive, healthy, loving family unlike Jun who basically just has his grandparents and distant cousins. Loneliness more so just boils down to lack of connection and feelings that you are unlovable, not how many people actually love and cherish you. Because her family is generally loud and open with her feelings though, it makes her feel like she has to put on a face — not that she isn’t a naturally optimistic person, but it’s more that she doesn’t want to burden anyone with her troubles. That nature of trying to keep peace and make others happy-> subconsciously pushing people away/ withdrawing due to resentment that builds up over time (which is not the fault of her friends/ family, it’s entirely of her own doing though not maliciously) -> being surrounded by people who cherish her though she still feels deeply lonely and guilty for withdrawing and becoming unresponsive when her loved ones have done nothing wrong

I plan on making a visual novel + some illustrations about them in the future : D I’m mostly a fanartist and I’m not used to making stories like this, but I think it’s always because I’ve tried to make fantasy stories and I’ve found that this slice of life one is much more my style. Will there be more characters than Jun and Nao? Probably… Do they exist? …No……
