Re. your concern that you're drawing Tavington out of character, I've sometimes felt the same way about writing for him or other villains. The thing is, what we see of them in canon is a reflection of the circumstances they're in. It's usually only heroes who get to feel happy, safe, and loved (whether they deserve it or not). Tavington spends almost the entire film obsessed with a man who wants to kill him. When he's not hunting Martin in the most desperate and depraved of ways, he's trying to convince Cornwallis to let him, and Cornwallis hates him too! He's in such a constant state of worry that I think if he ever got to be with a man he trusted, the thing he'd be most likely to do is sleep!
I think most people who actually complain about villains being happy in fanworks just don't like villains in general, so who cares, lol!
You’re absolutely right, who cares!
I think I got caught up in keeping Tavington confined solely to those circumstances to the point where I thought anything outside of that meant I was mischaracterizing him. I felt almost guilty when I took him outside of that. But no! There’s no fun in that, it’s restrictive and no good in fandom!

Hello!!
So I bet u know since I comment a lot on your art that I REALLY like it!! I love ur art style, I love the moments you capture with the characters 💖 and I just wanted to make sure I’m not annoying you when I comment in all caps like a 6 year old🥲 I just truly don’t know how to say I like your art SO much without being very “loud” in my comments.
Hello! Thank you so much!! I’m incredibly grateful you like my art 🥹 Rest assured you’re not annoying me whatsoever! You’re welcome to be as loud as you like! 😌❤️

Im regularly returning to admire your piece featuring Tavington and Wilkins on their picnic. The dapples on their clothes where the sunlight is coming through the leaves are so impressive and life-like.
I also love how relaxed Tavington continues to be in your work, either dozing off or just waking up in Wilkins' lap.
Ive noticed, though, that several of your recent works have had a comment from someone asking if you do commissions. I'm not sure if it's the same person or not, but it's weird they keep doing it given that I haven't seen you respond. Do you know what they want? I'm just curious. Feel free to ignore this or answer privately if you prefer.
Aww, thank you so much @lyledebeast ! I’m glad you like it so much that you keep returning to it <3 The dappled sunlight was my favorite part to do, I thought it would tie everything together quite nicely. It makes me quite happy that you think it looks impressive :)
It’s for sure become my favorite way to draw Tavington <3 Sometimes I worry I’m drawing him too out of character lol. It gives me some relief you enjoy how I’ve been portraying him.
About those comments I get concerning commissions , they’re just scam bots. I’ll usually delete and block them after going through their blogs and seeing how they interact with other's art. They’re fairly easy to spot since their blogs have random banners, and you can find the same comment asking about commissions in their reblogs or likes. They follow the vague art tags (#art, #digital art, etc.) and just comment on as many posts as possible in hopes one will stick. It’s just a little annoying having to go through each one to make sure it’s not a real person who is asking, but it’s not harmful to me since I don’t take commissions to begin with :)

Hi hi! I’ve been looking through your scarlet pimpernel art recently and I’ve noticed that your chauvelin often (though not always?) has his rapier in his left hand, and i was wondering if this is on purpose? Do you imagine him as left-handed? Or ambidextrous? Is this canon or based on sth in canon somehow? I would love to hear your thoughts!!!
Hello! It was definitely not on purpose aksjkdsak I had to go look for myself, so that should tell you enough! Since I seem to lean towards drawing my Chauvelin left-handed, he is now! :)

Mouse! Chauvelin 🐭✨
I’ve wanted to draw this for a while since reading @burnsopale's fic “Letting go, holding on” on AO3. I love every time Percy calls Chauvie “little mouse” in it ❤️

100 days of art, 97/100
The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982) has a surprising amount of horny energy for something ostensibly firmly PG-13.
Here, have a young Ian McKellen of all people as Chauvelin, resident antagonist, after spending an entire duel getting undressed with a sword for absolutely no goddamn reason.
(I love this cheesy-ass movie. Everyone in it is stunningly beautiful, the costumes are amazing, the music's great, the characters are worthy of a couple essays, and yet it's just so fun, and frequently incredibly funny)

For context, and this very much requires it lol, there’s a scene in the second episode of the 1955 show where Ffoulkes actually pouts after being told he won’t be joining Percy and Hastings over in France. I thought it would be funny to draw him sad and drinking after not being allowed to join them 🙂‍↕️ Was it so hard to let my poor boy come along? Let him join!

Have you read The Prestige? I'm in the middle of it and thought I wish I had your interpretation of the characters
I have not, but it looks interesting! I think I'll add it to my reading list :) Aww, it's nice that you wished you had my interpretation of them. That's oddly pleasant to hear <3

I recently got violently sucked back into my Scarlet Pimpernel phase and serious question. How do you HC Chauvies background in the musical specifically? Cause in the book we later know he’s a Marquee (for some reason), but in the musical during Madame Guillotine he specifically has the lines ‘I know the gutter and I know the stink of the street…(basically the whole part until ‘judgement of god’)’ which would imply he’s not of a noble background in the musical or I could be over interpreting his yappings. If this was already answered sometime before feel free to ignore this. Just curious.
Specifically for the musical, I like to HC Chauvelin as not being of noble background. This is solely because I like him singing in Madame Guillotine. Technically, that might be just canon, but it depends on which version of the musical you are looking at. But then it still is interpretation, so who knows! I'll just keep to it being a HC.
Rest assured, you are not over interpreting his yappings! There's been so many alterations to the musical that it is best if one does. Besides, it's fun! One of those alterations happens to be Chauvelin being a noble and then not. (Based on the interpretation of him singing that line, but you get what I mean.) I know Chauvelin sings in Madame Guillotine (Dave Clemmons as Chauvelin) in the 1992 concept recording, but not for the original cast recording with Terrance Mann as Chauvelin. Once the musical was reworked, SP 2.0, then he joined back in for Madame Guillotine with Rex Smith as Chauvelin. They stuck with Chauvelin continuing to sing in it for SP 3.0, and I personally like that they did.
I'm rambling now, but there you go :) I hope it made some sense! My artistic skills do not extend to writing, those are horribly lacking lol
