would you like to adopt him? or perhaps you’d like to adopt another 1776 character?
well you’re in luck!! i’m going to (possibly) be making 1776 fan merch(pins, stickers, keychains and such)!!
(keep reading for more info :3)
i’ll use this post to gauge interest, so if you’d consider buying, please rb. i’m not looking to make money off of this, but i’m not exactly in the financial situation to invest so heavily into making merch.
the first batch will have 6 characters—limited to keychains—those being: john adams, richard henry lee, john dickinson, thomas jefferson, john hancock, and ben franklin. if this does well, i’ll consider adding more characters + types.
also shoutout to @macaron-n-cheese for the inspiration :))
Who is the worst?
Round 1: Richard Henry Lee vs John Laurens
Richard Henry Lee (January 20, 1732 – June 19, 1794) was an American statesman and Founding Father from Virginia,[1] best known for the June 1776 Lee Resolution, the motion in the Second Continental Congress calling for the colonies' independence from Great Britain leading to the United States Declaration of Independence, which he signed. Lee also served a one-year term as the president of the Continental Congress, was a signatory to the Continental Association and the Articles of Confederation, and was a United States Senator from Virginia from 1789 to 1792, serving part of that time as the second president pro tempore of the upper house.
Despite his public disavowal of slavery, like other planters, Lee maintained slaves on his own plantation. In fact, of 410 slave owners within Westmoreland County, only seventeen owned more than Richard Henry who retained forty-three slaves on his Chantilly plantation.
John Laurens (October 28, 1754 – August 27, 1782) was an American soldier and statesman from South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War, best known for his criticism of slavery and his efforts to help recruit slaves to fight for their freedom as U.S. soldiers.[1]
In 1779, Laurens gained approval from the Continental Congress for his plan to recruit a brigade of 3,000 slaves by promising them freedom in return for fighting. The plan was defeated by political opposition in South Carolina. Laurens was killed in the Battle of the Combahee River in August 1782.
