Oh…I never knew that, Collei. I’m truly so sorry, dear.

And…if you had am experience like that with your mother, hearing about mine may nit be so good at the moment, so you don’t have to read this next bit: there was a forest Fire when I was young, near Avidya, and it killed my parents. It also deprived my of my ear, making be half deaf and blind. Bijan and Samira were there though—all this before your Dad was born—and took me in since I already knew them. They helped me begin so, so slowly to heal from the burning pain.

I still have it bad sometimes, and I have scars, mental and physical from that night, but it’s better. It’s as okay as it can be.

And no worries. I want to be a safe space for you to talk. As long as you tell your parents what is important, I don’t mind at all. Let it out, I’ll listen and try and help if requested.

Oh. Yeah. I could probably live on my own but it’s close to the Akademiya and a ways away from where Tighnari is so I’m not putting us in jeopardy of accidentally running into each other more than we need to.

Besides, my parents are my support group. Even if I know it hurts them for me and Tigh to not be close anymore.

Glad to hear you’re close with them. It’s actually how I found out about him getting with Cyno then them adopting you. I almost wish I reached out sooner.

Ah. Makes sense I haven’t met him then, I don’t interact with students much, Sages and past Students most often. Sounds interesting though, glad he’a nice to you.

Funny: theres never been a word for adoptive siblings or non-blood/non-biological. It’s likely from how common it is for adoption to happen within communities, since we all know each other.

And It’s interesting to me that you seem to know relatively little…I wonder if Tighnari just hasn’t told you about it yet? Not my place though.

Oh and about Fennec, it’s all rough transition since most packs who speak Fennec at home or as a first language typically use voice messages. It is written, just not as often, so the way its spelt isn’t entirely accurate, and besides, we sound like Foxes when we speak it, so it’s bound to be a little off.

From what I’ve heard it’s like that with Kitsune too.

I actually have been meaning to talk to a friend/pen-pal from Inazuma that I have. Kitsune, obviously. It’s interesting how our experiences differ even being similar species.

Never worry with me. Glad you can tell me you’re worried though. …Especially for someone who didn’t know about me for most of her life.

(Some quick Fennec Vocab if you ever want to use it: Djdu means parent (non-gendered), Togk means sibling, afaf is like niece/nephew but also non-gendered. There’s also some words for annoyance and stuff such as Eog and Agawb. That isn’t even touching on pronouns. But if you’re ever curious about that let me know.)

And my friend? She’s extremely nice. Understands a lot about me. It’s quite easy. She even told me I’d be a good model for some of her fashions. Hah.

Wheather you wondering is mere curiosity or trying to understand and figure out yourself through people close to you. It’s exactly what I did, since being gender-fluid is somewhat common amongst Fennecs—or at least using more than one set of pronouns. In our language—also named Fennec—we have quite the expansive vocabulary for self expression. I asked the Elders during that time what their experiences were like and advice for working through it all.

If you’d ever like to learn about those terms as well, let me know. Whatever for, I’d love to help.

Hah. Both of us, I see.

Well, first of all, with regards to my gender, I figure you’d want to jump right in? I’ll start for you. Ever since I was a little okder than you—so well within me and your Dad’s childhood—I slowly realized I didn’t necessarily feel fully “female.”

I talked to elders—who are really just friends and family who are order than you, regardless of relation in Fennec groups—about it and over time I decided to use she/they, then I slowly realized a few months after that that I also feel much more masculine sometimes. I slowly came to terms with going by he/him as well, and soon learned that all work for me.

Funny story actually: a old friend of mine I had when Tighnari was like 8 asked me what my “guy name” was. Let me tell you, I was SO confused. I went “why would I need a different name? I just…feel like a man sometimes.”

Anyway. That happened once more which just made me decide “Nail” works if people for some reason feel a need for a different name for me even though I don’t.

And also my no means do you need to use pronouns other than the ones your used to for me. But by the same token, if you want to try to use masculine pronouns for me, that’s always welcome too.

Naila held onto the edge of the doorway, expecting Adelia to step back and leave, but after a moment, Naila realized no such thing would happen.

She soon felt the other’s soft hand on her arm, giving her much needed grounding and knowledge of her surroundings.

And a moment later one sentence that took the breath out of Naila left Adelia’s lips: “Can I kiss you?”

❝I- Yes, Adelia…you may. Please.❞

And with that, Naila stood still, only moving her hand to cradle Adelia’s cheek, trusting the other woman to lean in and make it comfortable for her, unable to see.

Right before their lips touched, Naila couldn’t hell but whisper one more thing.

❝I wish I could see you. So, so beautiful…❞

Here, I’ll explain a little bit real quick. See if that helps you. Basically: as I grew up I realized I didn’t feel particularly attached to either human ideas of being a woman or man—or neither—or Fennec ideas of that. So I decided I’m something called “Genderfluid.” That means I identify with not just pronouns like “she” or “they” at the same time but rather all pronouns. I just have She/They/He listed as those are the most common.

It is funny though, most people still use She/Her with me.

Anyway, off topic. If you’d like to try it out on me you can use whatever you’d like, terms included. “Sir” “Ma’am” “Aunt” “Uncle” all work.

Okay. Bit longer than I meant. Hah. Sorry now onto the rest of what you’ve said.

I also just checked and the event is one of those “bring your kid to work day” it made me think of you when I heard, but then I convinced myself you wouldn’t want to for either that reason, the views, or since you aren’t my kid and are entirely entitled to not even want to be my niece.
