Remembering Katharine Obic on her 74th birthday. Born in Winnipeg on April 24, 1951, Katharine's parents broke up when she was three years old when her paternal grandfather Nikolai Obic returned to Winnipeg from North Korea. Katharine and her father Nikolai Obic Jr. moved to Velika Kladuśa when she was almost five when her great-uncle James Mulvey became a widower the year before. In 1962, Nikolai Jr. was arrested in Kyiv for the assassination attempt on then Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev. He was sentenced to life in prison at Lefortovo Prison in Moscow. He took his own life on March 23, 1965, aged 34. In 1968, Katharine dated a Serbian guy, who molested her, which caused her to not be able to have children. She came to visit Winnipeg in 1979 to visit her cousins and grandmother. In February 1994, Katharine booked a trip to the Philippines to see her mother, whom she hadn't seen in almost forty years. Adrianna Aquino died on April 9 of that year. When Yugoslavia was at its downfall, Katharine left the country for a bit and lived in Liverpool. In 2001, she moved to Zagreb to live with her cousin Volodymyr Mulvey and great-uncle. Katharine booked a trip to Winnipeg from September 24 to October 1, 2022. She died on September 29, 2022 from a brain hemorrhage as a result of a stroke after she got out of the shower in her hotel room at Hampton Inn. She was cremated shortly after and her ashes were dumped into the Caspian Sea. One year later on December 18, 2023, Katharine and her father got burial places. The two are buried at Kensay Cemetery in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Polly wants a cracker?! No. Anisa wants a cracker. This song is written about a person who made fun of me in high school. Her name is Anisa Obic. Instead of getting my mind off of her, I wrote a song about her. She would feel much happier if I end up becoming a member of the 27 Club. Instead of me treating Anisa like an animal, she treats me like an animal.

I wish the best of luck for Bill Tretiak on his retirement. He was the greatest bus driver of all time. I will miss seeing him drive the 85 every weekday.

Forty-seven years of driving bus is quite a long time and Dialga was hoping to be part of my birthday or his birthday, but sadly neither had you involved with our birthdays. You were the last Winnipeg Transit driver to be from the 1970s and the last serving driver to attend Jakov Obic's funeral back in 2003. I guess with you now retired, I have to draw stuff for Rick aka Mr. Invisible. He knows Jakov too, but doesn’t know his other siblings besides Ivan.

Thanks again for being the GBDOAT (Great Bus Driver of All Time), Bill. Happy retirement. Dialga will miss you dearly. But hey, he made it to 92. Now let’s hope he can make it to 93 next year.

Happy birthday to Nikolai Obic Jr. He would have been 94 today. He took his own life on March 23, 1965, aged 34 in Moscow, Russia. He had one daughter, Katharine Obic (1951–2022), with his then Asian girlfriend Adrianna Aquino (1931–1994). His best friend is Dialga Stankiewicz, who is still living in Winnipeg at the age of 91. He misses you a lot, but he has Bill as his current best friend.
