For my final film idea, I would have gone for a mixture between calming footage of nature and then changing it up with more pop art-inspired bright footage alongside some hypnotizing shots. I would have used the footage with busy street sounds and distorted poems. I would have encouraged the audience to think for themselves rather than telling a story. I would have added and edited footage that has special meaning to me but not to the viewers. This was inspired by listening to Mark Pellington's speech at my university.
Most of my images would have been edited using a split-screen or overlapping image. I sketched this storyboard of a way to plan different shots I wanted in my film. It was thought to imagine it without having a particular story in mind so a lot of it would have changed when filming.

Idea #3
use “Spinning Tops” to recreate “Anemic Cinema” by Marcel Duchamp. I don’t have one myself but I d believe that because of their fun designs and ability to spin it would be possible to re-create “Anemic Cinema”. There are also other possible object to combine with them. We could edit the footage in “Koyaanisqatsi” style. I think slow motion would make them more hypnotic.

I wanted to try more with this layout. I think my next idea would be to take extreme close-ups and add them like a puzzle together. It would be interesting to use different people too. maybe try and make more split screens.

I looked through a book called “unseen Lithuania” It’s mostly a photography book with most beautiful places of Lithuania written about. I wanted to look at this book because it has a lot of scenery pictures although and I thought it might give me inspiration. There are mostly pictures of places and not a lot of nature sadly. But there were a few picture with a lot of texture that I liked.

I was looking for more ideas of how to use split screen and came across “ Celebration”. It was posted by Vail Gu on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHKBzb-NF-0) and tell a story of a woman by using 2 screens.
To me it’s a bit disturbing to see the same woman happy and unhappy at the same time. But I do have to admit it was powerful piece. I also liked how they used split screen as a close up.

I watched this movie for it images. There are a lot of blurred nature shots that inspired my film idea. It simple yet enjoyable to watch. The images manages to make some of the audience feel nostalgic just watching it.

This is inspired by my previous post. I would have loved to overlay each screen with different image but my computer already had trouble with just this therefore I settled with using different effects. I have to say I quite like it and there are a lot of different ways you could put it together. I myself like the simple squares the best for example the last one. It reminds me of pop art and that was what I was aiming for.

This is an image I found while researching pop art. It was made as an project by 20 people. Here is a link to it https://www.artyfactory.com/portraits/pop-art-portraits/pop-art-group-project.html
I think it looks quite interesting and I want to attempt my one. But I will make it less vibrant in color and texture because I think this is to busy and would not fit my film idea.

Idea #2
I could have used the green screen room in university to take portraits of people and make something similar to pop art. By changing the background colors and editing the portrait to different vibrant colors. Then using split screen I could have put then together. I could have played with different placements of the clips and lightning.

An American artist, film director, and producer Andy Warhol was leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. This is one of his works I choose as an example.
I like pop art because of it’s vibrancy in colors. It also gives a lot of energy to the picture. And because I am mainly using split screens I thought I could use it . Most of pop art pieces are the same pictures but with different vibrant colors put together. It’s quite a simple concept but it works very well in my opinion. c

This image was taken using “Intentional Motion Blur”. In this technique, I intentionally move my camera to blur the image. There are a lot of different ways to take these shots. For example you can move the camera side to side or spin it around and get interesting shots.
This shot reminds me of Koyaanisqatsi when he speed-up the traffic footage.
I would have loved to take nature photos with this technique. Especially the woods. I think it would have given them a dreamy look.

The Power of Black & White
I recently read an article online by Andrew S. Gibson. (https://digital-photography-school.com/power-black-white/)
Where he talks about the power of black and white photography. He says that after editing “you finish with a photo (or a work of art, depending on your world view) that is an expression of the artist, rather than the original subject.” He also talks about trends how they come and go but “ texture layers or HDR, most of these are ephemeral. They won’t be remembered as anything more than dated trends in decades to come. But black and white will endure. “
I found this article interesting because I am found of black and white footage and I also wanted to use it in some of my shots towards the end. I also think that black and white has a lot of potential if films. It can help to portray a story.

Texture
With a good camera you can get interesting shots of texture. Something from afar can look a lot different from closer. I mainly use texture as overlays in some of my shots. To me they make the footage look more outstanding. I don’t have a great camera but I will try and post some of overlaid texture examples.

I taken a look at “Derek Jarman's Sketchbooks”
At first I was a bit confused of what I was looking at. But it was quite interesting to look at. All of the pages had meaning to the author. It kind of reminded me of a scrapbook. I also like how some pages had more than others and they ale look different.
I think this book is similar to my movie idea. Because the images I would have used would have had meaning to me but to other people it might have meant completely different thing.

In my experimental film I would have aimed for calmness with imagery changing between nature and people. The image’s would have been added in a way to have meaning. But I would have encourage people to draw out their own thought and meanings similar to Alain Resnais narrative. My sounds would also have been quite calm and relaxing. I would have paired busy street sounds with poetry read by different people. It’s quite fascinating how to different things can come in harmony.

I tried to remake one of the shots I posted before. Here are some of the ideas I tried.
1. I wanted to try completely different colors but I just think that this makes it look obnoxious. I also tried different color combinations but I wasn’t a big fan of them either.
2. In this one I tried to use lines like Peter Greenaway in his split screen video. I quite like it and I think u can do a lot with the lines. Maybe try and mix it with Marcel Duchamp idea.
3. At first I didn’t like this but now I think it looks quite interesting.

I tried filming through a magnifying glass I didn’t get the result I was expecting. I think if I had a bigger glass it would have looked better. It’s a bit difficult to film through it because of it’s size. But I did like the blurry effect it gave to the video.
This idea was partly inspired by Stan Brakhage. I’m a fan of his work and I would love to try creating images with a printer. But I can’t ant the moment. I would probably try to use leafs and pressed flowers because I want to use nature shots in my experimental movie.
