“When you find a memory, Link will get the Sheikah Slate out and look at its associated photo, but the final memory's photo is on the wall of Impa's house, so when Link finds that memory, he just stands there looking around for a few seconds instead... but if you take a photo of the photo on Impa's wall, Link will get out the Slate and look at the photo of the photo, like he does for the other memories.”

Zelda’s Diary Entry #5 - Text in various languages
Okay so I decided after that last post to see how the topic of Link’s struggles with his destiny and the expectations on him is handled in the various translations. The first step: Collecting the variations of the text itself.
Below the cut is a WIP collection and transcription of the text as seen in the game, sorted by region and sorted further by language. I don't know if different regions have different variations on their translations between languages, but I would imagine so and I will be documenting them here regardless.
Note: My iPad can be shitty about autocorrect. If you see any errors in my transcriptions, let me know and I’ll update it ASAP!
Warning: I’ve already gotten 100%, so some images may contain spoilers for outfits, weapons, etc.. I just wanted to get them and didn't really think of those sorts of spoilers when I started screenshotting them. If you're looking at this, chances are you're a hardcore enough fan you already know about these items, but proceed with caution!
Currently screenshotted: English (Americas), French (Americas)
Currently transcribed: English (Americas), French (Americas)
Region: Americas
Language: English

“Bit by bit, I've gotten Link to open up to me. It turns out he’s quite a glutton. He can't resist a delicious meal!
When I finally got around to asking why he’s so quiet all the time, I could tell it was difficult for him to say. But he did.
With so much at stake, and so many eyes upon him, he feels it necessary to stay strong and to silently bear any burden.
A feeling I know all too well... For him, it has caused him to stop outwardly expressing his thoughts and feelings.
I always believed him to be simply a gifted person who had never faced a day of hardship. How wrong I was...
Everyone has struggles that go unseen by the world... I was so absorbed with my own problems, I failed to see his.
I wish to talk with him more and to see what lies beneath those calm waters, to hear him speak freely and openly...
And perhaps I, too, will be able to bare my soul to him and share the demons that have plagued me all these years.”

Since you mentioned not knowing if/how that last line was handled in English...
The English version, after describing Link’s silence and stoicism as shown above, reads “I always believed him to be simply a gifted person who had never faced a day of hardship. How wrong I was... / Everyone has struggles that go unseen by the world... I was so absorbed with my own problems, I failed to see his. / I wish to talk with him more and to see what lies beneath those calm waters, to hear him speak freely and openly... / And perhaps I, too, will be able to bare my soul to him and share the demons that have plagued me all these years.”
If anyone has information on how this passage as a whole reads in languages other than English and French, I'd definitely be interested in hearing about the little differences between the other translations as well. I’m curious how each team handled the details of Link and Zelda’s struggles with their destinies and the expectations placed on them :0c
Edit: I’m currently compiling the screenshots and transcriptions of this diary entry in various regions and languages for comparison purposes. My current progress can be seen here.

The cannon reason why Link doesn’t speak
#honestly I wish I was better with languages#I tried to learn Spanish in middle school and Latin in high school but I could never manage much#maybe it was the school setting#I don't know#but being able to compare these two versions is really interesting#I might switch my Switch's language to something else to try and see if I can manage a functional translation from another language#...if any of my followers understand a language other than English hmu because I'll probably need second opinions on my roughs at least#tloz#botw#botw spoilers#major spoilers#look at these broken children. rip

2. REVALI’S FLAP
Impressive, I know. Very few can achieve a mastery of the sky. Yet I have made an art of creating an updraft that allows me to soar. It’s considered to be quite the masterpiece of aerial techniques, even among the Rito. With propre utilization of my superior skills, I see no reason why we couldn’t easily dispense with Ganon. Now then, my ability to explore the firmament is certainly of note… But let’s not -pardon me for being so blunt- let’s not forget the fact that I am the most skilled archer of all the Rito. Yet despise these truths, it seems that I have been tapped to merely assist you. All because you happen to have that little darkness-sealing sword on your back. I mean, it’s just… asinine. Unless… you think you can prove me wrong? Maybe we should just settle this one on one? But where…? Oh, I know! How about up there? Oh, you must pardon me. I forgot you have no way of making it up to that Divine Beast on your own! Good luck sealing the darkness!

I personally imagine that Revali, while respected for his abilities and certainly considered a hero for his role as champion, didn't have many close bonds to the other residents of Rito Village, or much of anyone else for that matter. He came across in his memory as standoffish and a bit of a braggart, which surely wouldn't help with regards to his personal or professional relationships.
In the memory of him found in Rito Village during the Vah Medoh quest, his first words with Link are “Impressive, I know.” in reference to his own abilities of manipulating the wind. He continues to discuss how this ability, as well as his archery, are considered to be masterpieces among the Rito - The best of the best, as it were. And from what little we see of his abilities, while this is probably a fair assessment, he seems to act as though because of his abilities he has no need of anyone - He complains about “[being] tapped to merely assist [Link]”, and even refers to the whole affair of him being chosen as a Champion rather than the hero himself as asinine. Even as Calamity Ganon awakens and Link is instructed to head to Hyrule Castle, Revali seems displeased with the circumstances, as though even then, when darkness threatened to take everything from them, he was still dissatisfied playing a supporting role and still wished to be the star of the show.
And while he seems harshest towards Link, he also doesn't seem to get along especially well with the other Champions either, treating Daruk’s suggestion of the ceremony as ridiculous and a waste of time, describing it as “pomp, grandeur, and nonsense”, with Urbosa quickly growing irritated with his complaining and telling him to, and I quote, “give it a rest.” We see little of his interactions with Mipha, but it’s easy to imagine that with their respective feelings regarding the situation and regarding Link, they would struggle to get along. And while it’s hard to glean his exact relationships with the other Champions from the few scenes in which he appears alongside them, even acting as their ally he seems to be the black sheep of the bunch - Respected for his role as a Champion, but not getting along particularly well with any of them.
It’s not hard to imagine a similar relationship with the people of Rito Village. From what I can tell, he dislikes feeling like he’s lowering himself to the levels of those he believes inferior. And, given that (whether accurate or not) he believed himself to be the greatest of the Rito in terms of both flight and archery, he probably imagined himself to be above them all as well. And so, while they no doubt mourned his death and he was certainly respected, even admired, as a warrior, a Champion, and a hero who fought against the darkness, he failed in another way - As a friend, and as a member of their tribe and their people.
i find it weird how revali is represented in the games. like. when you go at the zora domain everyone is still weeping for mipha. when you reach goron city everyone has very good thoughts about daruk and miss him grealty. but revali ? no one seems to really… be sad ? there is the lil flying spot named after him, but besides that ? nothing. he was a good warrior, but was he loved by the Ritos ?
#tloz#botw#revali#character analysis#long post#wall of text#granted I'm not a writer for the series by any means and I don't know how he acts in non-English releases#but I rewatched the memories involving him and this is the sort of vibe I got#I could be entirely off but it's not hard to draw conclusions from the few interactions we see between him and the champions in the past#botw spoilers#I guess#since this is sort of an in-depth thing
