I feel so disgusted with myself. When I post a work onto ao3, I "only" get kudos and I'm lucky to get a comment. Meanwhile, mutuals get a spam of kudos and wonderful comments within a day of uploading. I think that I'm the only one to blame, because my writing isn't good enough, writing not as popular pairings and scenarios, I haven't networked enough, etc. Not to mention I feel ungrateful for not being happy with kudos and the occasional comments. It's draining me and I don't know what to do
Hey there, a criminally late answer but first of all, here’s a hug.
There really is no one to blame, nonnie, and especially not yourself. It’s hard to say why some fics/authors get traction and others don’t, and there’s a big part of luck in the equation. Sometimes it’s as easy as one recommendation that will have a snowball effect.
And to your points (in order, bc my brain is bad atm and i need focus):
1. “ my writing isn’t good enough “ well it is what it is now and it won’t get better if you don’t write. Don’t blame yourself for not being excellent from the start. Progress takes time. (but if you do genuinely want to put effort into enhancing your writing check out this tag)
2. “ writing not as popular pairings and scenarios “ but then you write pairings and scenarios you enjoy, no? What’s the point of fandom if not focusing on things you enjoy? Would you rather half-heartedly write what’s already popular, just because it’s popular? Don’t blame yourself for liking what you like.
3. “I haven’t networked enough” this is your hobby meant for fun, not LinkedIn! If you’re not the type that reaches out and enjoys chatting with strangers about fandom stuff then that’s ok! Please don’t blame yourself. (but if you do genuinely want to put effort into networking and self promotion check out this tag)
4. “ I feel ungrateful for not being happy with kudos and the occasional comments “ It’s ok and quite natural to be dissatisfied with the level of feedback you’re getting. A lot of us do this for the exchange with readers, so it is disappointing when there is none. Which brings me to point 5 …
5. “ It’s draining me “ Take a deep breath, and a step back. Try to look critically at your situation.
Some aspects of the feedback you long for are within your control (to some extent), and you can actively try to influence them - but it takes effort without a guarantee for success. Is that effort worth it for you?
Some aspects of popularity are not within your control. Are you able to accept that? Can you stil find pleasure in writing fics that are not popular?
In short - does this hobby still make you happy? You could still write fandom stories, but for yourself or just for your friends, and remove the stress of waiting for feedback.
I don’t want to discourage you from writing or posting, obviously. But please take care of yourself first. You’ve shared stories that you created with the world, and that’s a reason to be proud of yourself, not disgusted. I hope you’ll be able to find pride in what you achieved, now or in the future.
For what it’s worth i’m proud of you :*

Fandom Culture Survey on Major Archive Warnings
I've seen some discussions about people's feelings on the major archive warnings and how they should be handled, particularly through @ao3commentoftheday, and wanted to get a measurable sense of the opinions of ao3 readers.

Hello! There's a fic that I just read, and it's super awesome but hasn't updated in a while. The Author is still active, replying to comments apologising for the wait. I really want to send them some love because it's so good, but I never really leave detailed comments and I really want to this time- I want to say more than just it was awesome. I don't really know how to structure a comment like that though, so I was wondering if you had any tips on what you like best in a long comment? Thankyou
What I’ll do myself is sort of “live blog” the chapter as I read it? I’ll make a bulleted list of moments or lines that I like as I’m reading the chapter and when I’m done the chapter, I copy/paste it all into a comment with “Liveblog reaction:” at the top. It seems to go over well?
I also strongly recommend @longlivefeedback‘s Comment Builder. It’s been a useful resource for a lot of people just like you :)
Let’s see what advice other people have, shall we?
