Memory of Roses: a fanfiction of Phobos as Oracle of Kandrakar
This a bit of a delayed prompt for the Metamoor Folk Festival, which is currently running! :) For the prompt Phobos, which was meant for the first three days, but I was a bit busy heh..
Phobos won in 4th arc, and gained the full powers of an Oracle. The thought is - what if Himerish's amnesia was no coincidence? What if the position is just... too heavy to allow its holder to hold also their own identity..?
The concept of memory loss as a mechanism of the position came from someone else in the Cedric's Screaming Closet discord, which also organises this event, but it has been many months and I don't remember who it was :( if it is you, call me for your rights!

Do you think Luke knew he was descended from slaves? Do you think he even knew about his grandmother Shmi at all?
i think it would've been pretty hard to avoid/hide, especially given shmi's grave being at the farm. the more fun question is does leia know
(tip jar! // comms status)

Today on my way to a shop I got an urge to kind of, explain myself, my view of Himerish - he's quite a controversial character huh - which is the core of the fun, of course, but i just still like him in general as a person, so how exactly -
I think the portrayal of him shows two seemingly contradictory modes - for one he is uncertain of his decisions, but other times he is painfully confident in ones, which are very questionable
vs.
my interpretation is that his intention is overall good, but in a dysfunctional way - that he is the kind of person, who takes everything as their responsibility - that sounds nice at first, however, it often grows into negligence towards the opinions of others, who you protect from everything, even from their own free will - taking everything as your responsibility means you would do a lot to do the right thing, but you also don't allow others to take responsibility for their lives if they so wish - plus this whole thing is a bit more complicated by that the rules of kandrakar are not always in harmony with other kinds of ethics, and i think it builds a conflict in his mind, too - he skips between different kinds of right without a discussion and pisses of either the council, or the guardians
i gave this aspect of his character great significance in the fanfictions, probably much more than the authors would - but I do think that they had similar view of him at least at some points
I think so, because 1) the main problem of his is repeatedly shown as his failure to listen to other people's opinions and making fast decisions without consultation, even if at times they were totally good deeds from the readers' view (like letting the astral drops go), and especially 2) because of Will. Will clearly mirrors Himerish's flaws in 4th arc - they are both in leader's position on different levels, and both tend to decide for others without discussion
I think we can say quite confidently that Will is not the most confident character - she is certainly not just someone enjoying her power over others or something. especially in this difficult situation, when their new boss seems to want really fucked up things from them, she is very uncertain and is fed up with everyone demanding an answer from her. But at the end of the day, she just acts quickly - because she wants to do the right thing (and what she does is arguably quite understandable), cause she believes it is her task to decide, to be the leader. But she fails to consult - like Himerish did, taking all the decisions on his back, for good intention, which ends up being patronising.
Now diving entirely into my own hc, I also made his leaving of Yarr this kind of act. He leaves Basiliade out of a feeling of guilt and duty to pay for his existence, to do the ultimate right thing - and what sounds better for this purpose than serving the center of cosmos? He leaves Basiliade and Yarr to protect them, to resolve the ugly stuff going on in his world, but he gives Yarr no say in that at all, while they have been each other's very significant situationships for some 9 years, so Yarr would actually have quite some right to formulate an opinion, I believe
This is also why I made that one promise to Yarr that Himerish actually kept, which was also the one time he listened to Yarr's opinion in matters of his duty to the world, the worth of his own life etc., be the actual reason why Himerish survived his quest and also that the whole Kandrakarian plan even worked at all - it maybe was too implicit in how the story was written, but there was intention, really.
So, Himerish survived, Kandrakar succeeded that one time, but Himerish also left and kept guilttripping himself into deciding for others, and I think that while he did develop after 4th arc, he did not heal his mental problem within the span of his 7 arcs of oracleship really. But I hope he did a bit after his retirement :)
well, this is how i see and write Himerish, my beloved ambivalent, and tbh to me also quite relatable blorbo
#wow this is longer than i planned#but i did some work today so i feel entitled to rant#himerish#w.i.t.c.h.#w.i.t.c.h. meta#but also a bunch of my headcanons#w.i.t.c.h. yarr#himerish/yarr#basiliade#kandrakar#w.i.t.c.h. oracle

This page was really fun. I reused one of my Inktober drawings of Nergal and Ereshkigal from last year, since it was so nice.
#damn i can't get over this adaptation of Ereshkigal and Nergal#now let's pretend the myth version where he basically beats her up does not exist ok#they are both idiots in the other more chill myth version as well indeed#but damn are they sort of cute as a-gnosis portrays them#it would be such a wonderfully dysfunctional relationship of two mentally unstable weirdos#oh my#a hysterical goth / a fear of commitment brute#what a story#mesopotamian mythologoy#mesopotamia

Here is an attempt at an entry for Metamoor Folk Festival that I started when things were going better, but then life happened (hence the tape is still there and it hasn’t been painted…)
Today’s prompt is cities so brace yourself for a small rambling about the geopolitical situation in Metamoor:

Im the comics, it is mentioned at some point that the Meridian city occupies the entire planet. Later, in Elyon’s special, Elyon visits another city with another tower (Grendal).
So I decided to do what I always do with the canon and make up my own mind: in Ink and blood, Meridian is the capital of Metamoor. The Queen has jurisdiction over the entire planet, but the territory is divided into five cities - one for each of the members of Escanor’s group.
The other cities each have a tower, and the day-to-day government of each city is taken care of by the noble families of Metamoor, each being the descendants of Escanor’s companions and living in the towers.
In Metamoor’s culture, women have generally more rights and freedoms than men. However, only Meridian and Hoel are strict matriarchies in terms of who gets to lead the city, while for the other cities, men have the opportunity to become Lords of their city if they are the firstborn.
There’s a lot more about this that has been developed in Ink and blood, like the names and looks of the nobles, and some dirty secrets. They have been hinted at in the published stories but they’ll come up much more in “The Queen Mother”.
#this is so great#meridian needs a conceptualisation really#metamoor folk festival#w.i.t.c.h.#meridian

Today on Rencontre Assyriologique Internationale in Prague, a Sumerian king flexing that he is a really good runner like
sorry I just had to share it, i always think of those two issues of w.i.t.c.h.
it would be even funnier if he mentioned god of fire, but he did not, Šakkan is a sort of shepherd deity of the plains and of big grass-eating domesticated animals, also with some fertility and stuff, sort of
so his charge is mighty, i guess
