Survey
Following previous experiences with surveys we decided to gain insight into target audience experiences on dating in Gen Z we decided to walk around campus and ask as many people as we could about their dating life.
The aim of the questions was to start a discussion on dating, so we could get a feel for how Gen Z feel about it. This would be a crucial step for the group to help us determine the language we should use in the copy.
Questions we concluded on asking:
give us a word to describe dating?
what is your idea of a perfect first date?
tell us a weird dating experience/ or texting experience.
what does kindness mean to you in dating?
what does equality mean to you in dating?
As defined at the start of the group project I am the person out of the group that is the most confident with talking to strangers, this chat to define what we our strengths and weaknesses are was really beneficial to show who should do what task and how we can support each other throughout the project.

Research Group Meeting
We looked at highlighting the brief and spoke about what we are taking from it now that we are giving all our focus to the D&AD brief.
the idea of peoples love stories on bumble.
what is new for bumble
Tumblr media
Key things we pulled out of the brief:
Make a campaign to introduce and reintroduce Gen Z to bumble the dating app, using copy to lead the messaging. Bumble celebrates diversity and has changed the dating scene for our generation by putting women at the front to make the first move. They are celebrating 10 years of legacy this is the main driving factor to the campaign.
Tonya's notes;
Celebrate the disruptive culture of bumble
Don't create more bee slogans
bumble needs to be accessible to everyone not just women approaching men

D&AD
Group meet up:
Following the initial tutorial we discussed the pointers mentioned to the missing member in our group ensuring that no information would be missed out for them. To make sure communication was to notch we made them repeat the information back to us so they understood.
What to do next:
more copy campaigns
look at bumble over 10 years
three ideas

These are the notes following the tutorial

Bumble
I mentioned my interest in bumble and asked the group to have a look as this is one of the briefs we hadn’t discussed previously. They agreed that the brief sounds like something we would enjoy.
Plan moving forward
Discuss initial ideas
Research appropriately
Create visuals for the tutorial
Have a clear few ideas / path to take to tutorial
Discussion
Looking at the brief it felt like the focus isn’t on the 10 year legacy. Although mentioned it felt

Critical Group reflection
As we have discussed previously in our group we are aware that we all enjoy physically making things and are less so interested in UX & UI . Furthermore the group project didn’t feel exciting , it felt as though the brief we where doing was not our sort of creative challenge , although we began to find methods of overcoming this, and did find outcomes that might excite us we felt as though they where not meeting the brief as set.
Changing Brief - Main points
We did not feel excited about the briefs
Digital requirements as submission didn’t motivate us
Felt the way our group works together suits the Bumble brief , as we enjoy collaborative idea generation
How we overcame this
I mentioned to the group that i felt we could push ourselves more on an alternative brief. I asked how they would feel about this and they agreed. We discussed how to move forward and decided to look at the briefs again and suggest our ideas from there.

Final evaluation
Overall this term I am very proud of how far I have come with my creative practice. I feel as though I have started learning the way my creativity thrives the most and how I can work with that and not against it. I have used time plans throughout the term and structured orginisation which has helped me to keep ontop of all the tasks and motivate me.
The final project has come a far way from where it began, I focused on keeping an open mind to alternative solutions to problems I would face throughout so that I can learn from my tutors, peers and other creative individuals. I conducted a wide range of research that has helped me shape a project that hits the brief.
To break down the final outcome a little I will discuss some elements in futher detail. I have used a clear narative throughout the zine to ensure the reader doesnt get lost and neither does the meaning in all the expressive typography. The thin format helps to show this in a way in which it becomes a small element intertwinned throughout rather than the entire books content. I highlight a few statistics and evidence based facts following with some inspirational messaging so the zine doesn't become a harrasment tool towards mothers as this is not the aim. The zine approapriatley guides mothers to become more aware of the vocabulary they use and even ends with a highlighting element - this tool will bring joy to their daughters.
Beside each phrase said by the mother there has been a little notes left underneath to help the target audience navigate around the content. This makes it clear that the phrases are said by diffrent mothers and gives context to the comments. The design on the emotional response pages are successful mostly, although as always these designs could be developed further. The overall messaging is clear so for this reason as a complete zine i believe it works.
The zine would be displayed in a well selected location for the style and subject it covers. I would have really enjoyed sending it to femanist artists to display for some images of the zine in action however this concept came around a little later in the process for that.
The zine and process is documented in a professional way throughout and it has really helped me gain confidence in my work. I would like to work on my ability to concicely critically analyse work and my own development and think it may become hard to follow the work process from an outside perspecive sometimes.
Next term my main focus is going to be my presentation skills for tutorials and feedback sessions, Id like to approach these meetings in a more professional mannor so that I am ready for those scenarios after university and to gain the same confidence in person as i have with my designs.
Overall I am pleased and have created something I feel like represents me as a designer well at the stage I am at.

Test print for final crit:
Researching into target audience behaviours I used tracing paper to make the concept easier to understand in high paced environments as mothers tend to be busy as I have learned through research.
Testing colour printing on tracing paper encase the design goes towards colour in the development process.

Critical reflection
Had a critical reflection of the project among a group of people. I found it particularly useful to talk to a group of girls who understood the aim of the project straight away. I noticed that the main focus is guiding the user through and having a clear system throughout. And having a consideration of target audience placement.
RECONSIDERING PLACEMENT OF ZINE
I had a discussion of where different places are that the zine could be placed and noticed that there are new developments of target audience.
Aims:
To get the public talking about the topic of mothers using this sort of language around their daughters.
This is the method I have chosen to reach the target audience.
Placement
At feminist events etc. where people are interested in making change. The book has depth to it and this is the most appropriate location for the audience to understand the concept and give it time. Here there will be plenty of mothers but these mothers will give it more thought.
Looking at a variety of feminist artists and exhibitions I set out to find a fitting location to my piece. It became crucial to me to define a location at which this zine could be placed but also where the information would be taken in too.
As I searched websites and social media pages I noticed it is so important for me to be aware what each exhibition aims to set out to do as this would make my concept really come alive. In order to convince you that this zine will work, and my idea is successful I need to show it in a way in which it already exists.
This is why I have chosen -
This art fair is a place for female artists to display their work that is there to open discussion about gender sexuality and culture. This is a perfect place for my zine to be displayed.
The zine is target audience being mums this place is a perfect place to open a discussion about mothering a young female in a way that will empower her.
This will also give this topic and opening to be conversed elsewhere too as the zine will also be purchasable.
