Wanted to interpret Lan zhan’s side as a symbol of regret, for how he originally treated wei ying growing up, realising it was too late before he could do anything. not listening to him, telling him what to do, and what he thought was the right path. eventually doing everything that wei ying did to be outcasted, branding himself, betraying his clan, and eventually rising a rival clan’s child.

now for Wei ying, he was treated like he was a nuisance, being labeled as “arrogant” although this “arrogance” was him just being true to himself. making him an extremely intelligent and powerful cultivator, he had nothing weighing him down. But overtime if the world is against you, it will start to tear you apart. he got to a point of isolation that was beginning to drive him mad, having so many people tell you what you’re doing is “wrong” or your “evil” for even using such a method for good. Is still “morally incorrect”

And wouldn’t it also drive you mad? if you had thousands of people screaming at you “HOW DARE YOU DEFEND YOURSELF” when you weren’t even the one to start the fight? even tho.. you aided them in the defeat of the most powerful clan within your region? and how dare you use a unorthodox method to achieve that. All because you wanted to prevent the death of innocent’s? how their selfishness cause the death of your own sister’s husband? how you never got to meet your nephew, outcasted by everyone eventually locking yourself up so they had no further excuse to berate you.

Wei ying was one big crashout to begin with.
