The first time I ever rode a roller coaster was the old wooden coaster at the Pacific National Exhibition grounds in Vancouver. This was back in the mid 1980s, before the big renovation, so it still had shitty plywood cars where the only thing preventing you from being thrown bodily from the track was your own weight and a single metal cross-bar to hang onto. I just barely cleared the "you must be this tall to ride" sign, but I was abnormally tall for my age and the operators either didn't notice or didn't care how skinny I was, so I was well below the minimum safe weight; when my car hit the big drop I was lifted from my seat by the sudden acceleration, and hung suspended in mid air for the full duration of the drop, held in place by my grip on the safety bar. It was the most magical experience of my life, and one I look back on with fond nostalgia, which probably explains a thing or two.

Supposed to be some sort of shitpost because I was cracking up as I was “drawing” this but I had the idea while eating sushi a few days ago and couldn’t get it off my mind

Oh hey environment, hurrah! Hope you enjoy it. Even in the management/environmental sciences sides it is a very messy & interesting space to be in politically
ok so i quit my MBA and switched to an MS in environmental policy, and there is like. a substantial reduction in the number of people using chatgpt lmao. in the MBA program, there would be entire strings of discussion posts in unusual fonts with the tell-tale bold headings over each topic for emphasis (ARE YOU SERIOUS?). in these ENV courses i'm seeing people with genuine, not-strictly-correct grammatical quirks, there's no bold headings, nobody's using non-default fonts, things feel natural and peer-to-peer...man i hate business majors lol.
#anyways time for an immediate tangent into ai use in my university's envsci program#one of my most recent classes had a problem where like 30% of students were caught using AI to code#like it was functional but so samey and unnecessarily complex that it was obviously AI#Everybody ended up having to code a new model from scratch because of it and it was brutal even for the people who didn't use ai#Which is a shame. It was the only course in which we were actually being taught how to code#Other than that it's been pretty nice. The program is full of people that care deeply

DOGE just froze funding to vital Federal and Indigenous conservation programs devoted to supporting the very delicate and tenuous existence of the black-footed ferret.
I fell in love with these animals as a kid traveling to our National Parks. Their rarity and ferocity made me sharply aware, even as a child, of just how much of a responsibility we have toward our environment. I can't bear the thought of them being a fucking casualty of Trump and Musk.

Look at them! They do war dances.
