the year in KSACC (so far) continued!
BAM! KSACC was back for teaching block 2 with avengeance and the new theme of Play! First up we returned to our old friend Matt Madden and 99 Ways to Tell a Story to inspire some play with conventions of genre and form.
Having focused on visual narrative, it was time to turn our playful eye to process and muck about with materials (including UV inks - whaaaaat?!)
All this was inspired by the rule breaking experimentation of the one-and-only comics artist extraordinaire and friend of IABA, Lucy Sullivan, so who else would we recruit for our very own hosting of the 2nd Unholy Trinity of Comics Clubs Comix Jamboree? Lucy talked to us about her graphic novel Barking and led a workshop where we played with unusual zine formats and carbon paper! There was ‘speed dating’ portrait drawing, comic clubs show & tell, + comic cake!!
Not ones to rest on their laurels all smug with themselves for such epic jamboreeage, KSACCers put their planning hats back on to brainstorm and trial run some workshop ideas for ELCAF 2020. and nominated a new leader!
Who knows where our sparkly new unicorn overlord will take us in the future? What we do know is that no virus can keep the KSA Comic Club community from assembling! (albeit digitally). So join us for the first EVER Virtual Comic Club (VKSACC?!) - A Webcomic Special on Tues 24 March (check emails for Zoom link). Have a page from your fave webcomic to share and we’ll end up with enough goodies to get us through weird times. See you then KSACCers!

the year in KSACC (so far...) part one!
Time to take a moment to celebrate all the awesomeness of KSA Comic Club this year (so far...). Let’s recap!
Having kicked things off with a welcome session where KSACCers tasked us with the MOST EPIC LIST of comicsy things they wanted covered, the ball got a-rolling with the Character Mashup Extravaganza! KSACCers brought in their amazing Original Characters, who then had some hilarious (and some quite poignant) unexpected encounters with each other!
This was swiftly followed by the Setting Special where we forgot all about those pesky characters and instead thought about how environments can tell a story. We mixed up evocative settings panels into random non-sequitur comics, with the winner nominated for riso printing at the 1st EVER Unholy Trinity of Comics Clubs COMICS JAMBOREE! Hosted by our friends Doom Factory at the CASS, London Met, we enjoyed some great talks and fab jams...
With barely enough time to recover from all that excitement, we were joined by Special Guest Sarah Lippett (friend of IABA) to talk about her new graphic memoir A Puff of Smoke + had the treat of seeing her mind-blowing roughs:
So inspired were we, that this was followed by not one but TWO Graphic Memoir Specials! using personal experiences and real-life incidents to generate stories that all came together in first EVER KSACC anthology, There’s A Dragon In My Mouth. This wonder promptly made its debut on the UK small press comics scene at the one and only Catford Zine Fair!
And that was just teaching block one - phew! Stay tuned for TB2 recap...

Comics Jamboree @ the CASS!
Huge thanks to ‘the Doom Factory’ aka the London Met Comic Club for hosting the first of this year’s Tri-Annual Comics Jamborees!
We had a great time making loads of comics jams, riso-printing our wordless non-sequitur comics, printing a collaborative comic of one-inch panels...
...and hearing from loads of interesting speakers - Joe Stone from Work in Progress and the Hackney Comics & Zine Fair, Tari Eguruze from the London Graphic Novel Network, Nicola Streeten (visiting lecturer at KSA) from Laydeez do Comics and the Dalston Comic Club crew!
We came back with loads of ideas from Camberwell and London Met comic clubs and hope everyone from Kingston who came along was similarly inspired!
