1. ‘pull over. let me drive for a while’

The streetlights shined, letting you know of the late time as you drove. You didn’t expect to be this late, honestly. The two of you had just gotten carried away with the excitement of spending time with your family. It was the first time you had taken Jin to see them.
Your gaze shifted slightly from the deserted road to look at said person in the passenger seat. His eyes were closed and he was fast asleep. You presumed he was worn out from the lengthy time that he had spent playing with your nephew. You smiled as you remembered both of their infectious smiles.
At first, you had been anxious to introduce Jin to your family. You loved him dearly but you knew your family could be intimidating. Admittedly, they only wanted the best for you. So, it was clear to see that you were over the moon when your father and your boyfriend began to get along like a house on fire.
You really believed that Jin was the one. Despite him being away for long periods at a time, the two of you always managed to make it work and make sure that you had enough time for each other. You were also busy with your job so sometimes your schedules clashed. That didn’t mean the two of you loved each other any less.
If you were working late, Jin would always wait up for you if he was home. Most likely with a hot meal, having put of dinner himself until you got home. He always claimed that he wasn’t hungry earlier in the evening. You never said anything even though you knew it was a lie. Maybe it was selfish but you cherished the nights he would wait to sit down with you and enjoy the meal.
Even though you often came home tired, you knew you weren’t the only one. Jin had long days too. Sometimes he would leave before you even had awoken. He always left you a note on the bedside table, often telling you how much he loved you and that he would see you later that day. It made you smile.
When he was away you kept yourself busy but still anticipated his return. You were always patient. You knew at the beginning of the relationship what you were getting into. Jin would leave and of course you would miss him. What helped you through the day was knowing that he missed you just as much as you missed him.
You couldn’t count how many rules Jin had broken while he was away on tour. He always managed to sneak away from the action to give you a call or FaceTime. Texts were regular. Sometimes you wondered if the boy ever slept when you looked up the time differences.
Jin had on recently returned from a tour. You had offered to postpone meeting your family but he was so adamant on meeting them that it would be futile to attempt to convince him to rest for another day instead.
At first, he was even against letting you drive home. You put your foot down, you knew he was exhausted and, honestly, you didn’t want to be in a car accident if he accidently fell asleep at the wheel. It took maybe fifteen minutes of your journey for Jin to fall asleep.
You had quickly turned the radio off, not wanting to disturb Jin as he slept. He deserved the rest and you didn’t want to wake him up, knowing he would try his best not to fall asleep again. If you were honest, you were quite tired yourself but someone had to get you home.
Seeing your parents was one thing, staying the night was another. You had been embarrassed to take Jin up to your room. It was in the same state it was when you had left it years ago. The walls were an ugly, almost neon shade of pink and many of your plushies could be located in all corners of your room. Jin had laughed and called you cute.
You blinked a few times, making sure you were wide awake. The darkness didn’t help, it just let you know you should probably be in your bed. What eased your thoughts was that Jin was currently regaining his energy. That was all you needed.
The next ten minutes of your journey was silent. Maybe you should have left earlier, you knew that the journey was quite a long one. You longed for the warmness of your bed. It was better than the heat your car provided.
“Are we almost home?” the passenger spoke up. You were slightly frightened by Jin’s voice, not aware that he had woken up.
“Oh, you’re awake,” you said, eyes darting to look at the drowsy man, “Not too long now, another twenty minutes maybe.”
He groaned, stretching in his seat before replying, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, don’t worry,” you smiled.
He didn’t reply, only smiling warmly back before reaching for your hand that rested in between the two of you. He intertwined your fingers and gave your hand a squeeze. You squeezed back and tightened your grip on his hand.
The silence between the two of you was comfortable. Being in each other’s presence was enough to put the two of you at ease.
Jin was unconsciously rubbing his thumb on your hand. It felt so nice but only made you more tired and ready to climb into bed, to snuggle into your boyfriend’s embrace.
Jin seem to pick up on your sudden spike of tiredness. He immediately stopped running his thumb over your hand and focused his gaze on you.
“Are you tired?” he asked, worried.
“It’s fine, Jin,” you shook your head, “We’ll be home soon.”
“I don’t want you to drive while you’re tired,” he disagreed, “Pull over. Let me drive for a while.”
You scrunched your face up, knowing that Jin himself was tired. About to disagree, you quickly looked at him. His face, however, showed that he wouldn’t take no for an answer. Sighing, you nodded slightly and removed your hand from his so that you could safely pull the car over.
Without saying anything, the two of you exited the car and began to walk around to the other side. Jin pulled you to a stop when you met each other halfway and quickly pressed a quick kiss to your lips. You just smiled and continued round to the passenger side of the car.
After getting in the car, you strapped yourself in. Jin wasted no time in pulling out and continuing the drive home. He reached back for your hand and you drove in silence. You weren’t even aware of your eyes slowly closing. You still held Jin’s hand tightly in yours as you drifted into a peaceful sleep. You didn’t even wake up when Jin carried you inside.

thin walls - kth
masterlist | request
pairing: taehyung x reader
genre: fluff i suppose, non idol!au
word count: 3954
summary: you live in an apartment complex with thin walls and your neighbour disagrees with your music taste
You closed the door behind you as you entered your apartment. It was late at night and you were exhausted from your long shift at work. What you really wanted to do was climb into bed and stay there for days on end. However, you knew that you had to at least get some study time in before you retreated to the comfort of sleep.
Taking off your bag, you lazily threw it onto the sofa in your small living room. Your apartment wasn’t shabby. Small, yes. It was the best you could afford being a student at college but the cramped idea of it did not put you off, it made you feel at home. The only complaint would be the extremely thin walls.
It wasn’t that you were bothered by other people making noise – you wanted to avoid conflict at all costs and, besides, you had gotten used to droning out any sounds made – but instead you were worried about making too much noise yourself. You never wanted to inconvenience anyone so you always tried your best keep quiet. This often resulted in you tip-toeing around your apartment. No one had ever complained, of course, and everyone in the building – that you had met – seemed to be rather pleasant.
Trying to keep your eyes open, you crossed the living room and entered the kitchen. It had been a while since you ate, your break having been hours ago. You figured a sandwich would suffice. It didn’t take long to prepare your ‘meal’ but you were almost falling asleep with the knife in your hand.
Making your way through to your room, you placed the sandwich on your desk before picking up your bag and retrieving the books from it. As soon as you took your seat at the desk, you came to the conclusion that you were most likely going to fall asleep here. In an attempt to postpone this likely event, you fished your phone out of your pocket and quickly turned the Bluetooth on in order to connect it to the speakers that located on the table next to your bed.
You simply put your music on shuffle and was content with the random pop song that was chosen. At least it was up-beat and not slow and melodic enough to put you to sleep. You made sure that the volume was quiet enough so that it would hardly disturb any of your neighbours but loud enough that you were able to hear it clearly. If you wanted to stay awake, you needed the music to remind you that you had work to do.
Content, you opened your book. You were a history major and sometimes you seriously regretted it. You soon realised that there was only so many parts of history that interested you and learning about the Napoleonic Wars was not one of them. However, you had an essay due which required you to have explored the historical opinions of this topic.
You were five minutes into your study time, in the middle of highlighting a sentence in Napoleon’s Road to Glory: Triumphs, Defeats and Immortality, when the flow of your music was interrupted. Confused, you set down your highlighter and strained your ears. Your music was still playing but it was currently being drowned out by a god-awful rap song.
Furrowing your eyebrows, you picked up your phone and put the volume up just enough to cover the other song. It was coming from next door and while you did not have the courage to ask them to turn it down, you weren’t about to conform to listening to something you didn’t like. You were already studying, you needed to enjoy something in this moment.
Your attempt was futile it seemed. Approximately ten seconds after you raised your volume to drown out the rap song, your pop song did not stand a chance against the once again louder music next door. Huffing you once again picked up your phone and increased the volume again. If they wanted music on they could have put it on earlier.
Trying to let your thoughts stray from your annoying next door neighbour, you picked up the highlighter once again and began scanning over the paragraphs in your book. However, the increased volume was now rather distracting. You found yourself reciting lyrics from the song playing in your head instead of reading and processing the words in front of you.
To make matters worse, the rap song had increased in volume overshadowing your music entirely. Letting out a loud groan, you slammed the highlighter onto the desk and stood up from your chair. The volume had been maxed out on your phone so the only way to make it louder was to turn up the speakers. In all fairness, you were no longer planning on studying but you couldn’t let your next-door neighbour win.
Without bothering about who could hear your music, you turned the volume knob on your speakers and successfully masked the other song. Of course, your victory was short lived.
“How loud can their music go?” you moaned to yourself, frustrated with the situation.
You tried once more to see if your neighbour would give up and go to bed but they continued to battle with you. Accepting defeat, you clicked the power button on your speakers and removed the pop song from the mix. You scoffed when the rap song was shut of two seconds later. Could they have not just played their music at all?
Knowing that you wouldn’t get any more work done today, you rose from your bed with the intent of discarding the plate that had your sandwich on it. You were working again tomorrow so a good night’s rest was in order.
Quickly putting the plate in the sink, you made your way back to your bedroom and proceeded to get ready for bed. You really hoped your neighbour didn’t decide they wanted to listen to music again. Not only was it loud, it also wasn’t your cup of tea. There was no way you could even attempt to fall asleep to it.
You awoke the next morning to the sound of your alarm, glad that there were no other disturbances during the night. Reaching for your phone, you silenced it before slowly sitting up. You didn’t have a bad shift today, only working ten until four. That meant you would have enough time to study when you get home and even have a proper meal.
By proper meal you actually meant you were going to order some really good takeout to sit and eat while watching sitcoms for the rest of the evening.
You began to get ready for work. Saturdays were always a busy day for the coffee shop that you worked in. Most people enjoyed visiting with their friends, the calm atmosphere of the coffee shop giving off welcoming vibes that attracted them and beckoned them in.
At half past nine, you were ready to go. Grabbing your bag and keys, you exited your apartment. Shutting the door behind you, you made sure that the door was locked. Being a victim of a robbery wasn’t on your bucket list. When you retracted your keys from the lock you heard a door beside you swing open and the close. Glancing over, you locked eyes with your next-door neighbour.
Should you say something about last night? Scold him for ruining your study time? Apologise for having your music loud enough for him to hear? Ask him why he did it? All of these thoughts were put on hold when he simply sent you a smile and continued walking down the hallway.
You were a little put off. Surely he had something to say since he partook in the small music battle last night. What was worse was the smile he gave you. You had assumed he would glare at you or have some type of nasty look but you were completely and utterly wrong. Shaking your head, you put all thoughts of last night aside and continued on your way to work.
It was three hours into your shift and you had just finished serving a lengthy line of customers. The coffee shop was as busy as you expected it to be. It wasn’t too warm outside when you were walking to work, the cold breeze nipping at your skin and you knew the weather hadn’t improved when people entered the shop shivering.
Your colleague was currently cleaning the tables, picking up trays of dirty cups. When she deposited them to the counter you wasted no time in pulling rubber gloves on. The quicker you clean everything, the more time you had to stand around and do nothing.
When rinsing the last plate, someone cleared their throat behind you. You quickly put the plate down before pulling the gloves off. Turning around you had to admit that you were surprised to see your neighbour patiently waiting for your attention. You faltered a little when you saw him but you quickly composed yourself, not wanting to let on that you were annoyed about his antics last night.
“Hi there, how can I hel-“
“Oh, hey, you’re my neighbour!” he quickly pointed out, “I’m Kim Taehyung.”
“I’m Y/N,” you said through a tight lipped smile, “What can I ge-“
“Isn’t it weird that we’ve lived next to each other for a while but didn’t know each other’s names?” he grinned, not caring about cutting you off.
“Totally weird,” you nodded, trying not to let your sarcasm show. He wasn’t mentioning anything about the music last night. You weren’t sure if he was doing that on purpose or not. “What can I get you?”
“Can I have a latte, please?” he ordered, continuing to smile at you before adding, “To go, please.”
You nodded, totalling his order. He paid and you began working on his order. It wasn’t too complicated so it wouldn’t take long. You weren’t sure why you were so keen on making sure he left as soon as possible. Maybe it was the fact that he completely avoided the topic of him being the most annoying person in the world last night or perhaps you didn’t want to have that topic at all due to being a bit embarrassed that your music was too loud.
“Is this music like automatically chosen or something?” Taehyung suddenly asked, “Like is it some random playlist or whatever?”
“It’s a playlist I made,” you answered.
“Oh,” Taehyung said, leaning against the counter watching you intently while you made his drink, “that it explains why it isn’t very good then.”
You froze and immediately turned your gaze towards him. You were shocked he would say that to you but he didn’t even look embarrassed. His face still held the same smile it did when you saw each other this morning.
“Excuse me?”
“I was just informing you that you don’t have very good taste in music.”
You clicked your tongue, trying not to show your annoyance. You didn’t want to be reprimanded for being rude to a customer. However, it suddenly struck you. Was that the reason for him blasting his music at the same time as you? He was trying to tell you your music taste sucked. You didn’t know what to reply but you didn’t have to.
“I could introduce you to some good music, you know. Show you what you’ve been missing out on.”
Snapping the lid onto his takeaway cup, you handed Taehyung his drink and put on the brightest smile you could muster, “I think I’ll pass.”
Taehyung’s smile didn’t falter, “Sure you do.”
Nothing else was said and Taehyung left the store. You were left dumbfounded, mulling over what had just happened. That was his way of addressing the situation. You let out a scoff. If last night was anything to go on then it was arguable that he didn’t have a better taste in music than you. In fact, you believed his choice of genre was much, much worse.
Taehyung had left your mind by the time you had finished your shift. You were looking forward to getting home and ordering pizza. It had been a long time since you had a night to yourself always being busy with college and work.
Originally you had planned to do a few hours of studying tonight but you had managed to convince yourself that you would be fine without it for the night. Tonight was all about you, pizza and the reruns of Friends that would be on.
You were relaxed. A blanket was draped over your legs, the pizza box situated on your lap and the television on. Everything was perfect. For about an hour.
You didn’t want to believe it when you heard the faint sound. At first you assumed that you were imagining it. However, when it grew louder you recognised the music to be the same from last night. You groaned. If this was his way of ‘introducing you to good music’ then he had another thing coming.
Not wasting a single second, you carefully placed the pizza box down and shoved the blanket off of you. Grabbing your phone, you marched through to your bedroom – no longer caring about whoever heard your footsteps – and quickly connected it to the Bluetooth speakers.
Choosing the most obnoxiously loud and dance worthy pop song, you set the volume to be loud enough to drown out Taehyung’s so called music. You were not backing down tonight.
As expected, your neighbour increased the volume of his song but you did not waste a second in retaliating. You were prepared to stay up all night to be him if you had to.
So you thought.
Taehyung was had determination, you had to give him that. No matter how much you tried to convince him to give up he powered through. You hated admitting defeat but you really did want to go to sleep.
At least he was respectful enough to switch his music off a few seconds after you. However, it also seemed like he was mocking you. You knew very well that you had lost but he didn’t rub it in your face by continuing to play his music. He simply let you sit in silence. Maybe that was worse.
You vowed that, if this was to ever happen again, you wouldn’t let him win next time.
This continued for weeks. You always lost but you never confronted Taehyung about it either. It was clear that both of you knew what was going on though. Every day that you were working, Taehyung would make a visit to the coffee shop and you were pretty sure that he knew your work schedule by now despite there not being many words exchanged between the two of you.
What was even worse was that Taehyung never shuffled the songs he played. It was the same songs every night. At least you had the decency to make sure he wasn’t bored to death by one song.
You also assumed everybody in your apartment complex knew about the ‘disagreements’ you and Taehyung would have. You’d meet them in the hallways and maybe have small conversations but they would always harbour an amused expression on their face like they found Taehyung’s and yours exchanges. It surprised you that none of your other neighbours had complained yet. Some nights the music got so loud that even you considered turning your music off and knocking on Taehyung’s door to tell him off.
You never did though.
Deep down – though you definitely would never admit it out loud – you had found a funny side to these regular occurrences. You could even say that you sometimes look forward to them if you’ve had a difficult day and could use a laugh. Those were the days where you would initiate it.
Your colleagues at work had also noticed something. They had noticed that Taehyung always appeared in the shop when you were in. At first, they assumed that he was your boyfriend. You had quickly shut down that idea but, no matter how hard you attempted to explain it to them, they were unable to understand the whole music incident.
It was Monday. You had finished college for the day and you immediately went to the coffee shop for your shift. You were working until seven tonight. In your opinion, Monday shifts weren’t that bad. You still had enough time to study, eat and shower when you got home.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t excited for Taehyung’s visit tonight. The entire weekend lacked a disagreement over music. You spent a lot of your free time studying due to the fact you had a mock test coming up that you were determined to get a good grade on and Taehyung had never tried to initiate anything so you assumed that he had been busy as well. He never said anything when he came in for his latte, though, but you supposed you never really brought up the topic when you spoke.
It was just past six o’clock when Taehyung appeared. As soon as you saw him you began preparing his latte. It was what he ordered every time. He approached you with a smile like he usually did.
“Still the same playlist?” he asked when he reached you, “Doesn’t anybody ever complain?”
“What would they have to complain about?” you questioned without looking up at him.
“Your dreadful music taste.”
You just smiled. Honestly you weren’t sure what you could even say. Whatever you replied would lead to a petty argument that neither of you would take seriously but could appear serious to a colleague or your boss. You didn’t want to get fired.
After putting the lid on his coffee, you handed him the cup and he handed you the exact change.
“I hope you have a nice night,” Taehyung grinned, winking at you before turning around to leave the coffee shop. You watched him leave with a smile on your face.
“He was totally flirting with you,” Mina, your colleague, said as she approached you.
“He wasn’t,” you disagreed, “he was just making fun.”
“No, he wasn’t, I could totally tell.”
“It’s not like that with us,” you continued to disagree.
“Are you sure?” Mina asked, unconvinced, “Say it isn’t… do you want it to be?”
“Why are you asking me that?”
“He’s pretty cute, if I were you’d I’d be taking every chance to get with him.”
You shook your head at her. Thinking about it, Taehyung was good looking – that was obvious. However, you knew nothing about him. He could have a girlfriend for all you knew. Not that it bothered you. You were just two people who fought over music without actually exchanging any words.
But he did come into your work every time you had a shift. You shook your head. He only stayed for a few minutes, that doesn’t count as him coming to see you. Maybe he just really likes the coffee you make. The coffee shop is also pretty close to your apartment complex so why would he go out of his way to go to another one?
Your shift came to an end and you rushed home. You kept telling yourself that it was so that you had more time to study but, deep down, you were questioning whether that was the truth or not. As soon as you got home, you made yourself something to eat before going through to your bedroom and taking out your history books yet again.
You weren’t planning on initiating anything. You didn’t want to annoy him. Sometimes you believed that you were overthinking it as if you put music on and even if he didn’t reply, it could just be played off as you listening to some music. But you were also afraid of feeling disappointed if he didn’t play along. That was why most of the time you waited for him.
The wait was half an hour. As soon as you heard the horrible rap song – that you hate even more now compared to when you first heard it – you couldn’t stop the smile from creeping up onto your face. You didn’t reply right away, not wanting to make it look like you were waiting for it but you still couldn’t wait more than a few minutes.
Connecting your phone to your speakers, you picked a song and increased the volume. You wondered if you should start playing a song on repeat – make him annoyed about the lack of variety like he does to you.
His music gets louder. So does yours.
This continues for a while – the two sounds contrasting with each other and forming an unpleasant noise yet you still refused to turn your music off. This was perhaps the loudest the music had ever been. You were quite confident that you would win tonight.
You were confident until a muffled voice sounded around the apartment complex.
“I have had a really bad day! So could you please, please stop flirting and just bone already so that I can sleep in peace tonight!”
Simultaneously, the two melodies ceased. You immediately felt a blush rising to your cheeks at their choice of words. You were now sitting in silence, arguing with yourself and telling yourself that you could never look Taehyung in the eye again. Maybe he would stop coming to the coffee shop now.
The music wasn’t flirting, was it? Why did they have to use those words?
A few minutes passed as you sat on your bed in hush. You were surprised when you heard fumbled movement in the apartment next to you. He seemed to be stumbling about the place, banging into things. What was he doing?
What really caught you by surprise was the sound of a door opening and closing. Where was he going? Why was he leaving his apartment?
Your eyes widened when you heard a knock at your door. You immediately sprung up from your bed. Was that him? Obviously, that was him. You struggled with yourself internally as you debated what you should do. He knew you were in so he’d know that you were ignoring him.
After what seemed like hours, you slowly tiptoed to the front door of your apartment. You were cautious when you opened it, not knowing how this situation would pan out. The door wasn’t even fully open before Taehyung began speaking.
“Hi, so I’ve been thinking,” he started, trying to act casual when you could clearly see the redness in his cheeks, “about what that guy said.”
“For two minutes?” you retorted. You couldn’t help it. Taehyung cracked a smile.
“Yes, for two minutes,” he said, “And I was really thinking-“
“That we should bone?”
“Ye- wait, no! No!” he panicked, raising his hands and shaking them wildly, “I was – uh – thinking more go on a date… if you wanted to?”
Your blush deepened.
“Uh… I mean – yeah sure, that would be great,” you stuttered.
“Oh really?” Taehyung seemed surprised, “I mean yeah, that’s great. Wonderful even.”
“Yeah, it is,” you let a grin find itself on your face, seeing Taehyung flustered proved to be rather amusing.
“Great,” Taehyung finally laughed, “I’ll, uh, let you know. Since we live next to each other and all. It’ll be, um, easy to get a hold of you.”
“You do that,” you smirked, “but don’t arrange anything music related.”
“Nothing music related, got it!” Taehyung gave you a thumbs up before bidding you goodnight, leaving your front door with the biggest grin on his face.

summary: you aren’t ready to let your life be dictated by a stupid tattoo for a stupid ‘soulmate’
By their eighteenth birthday, everybody in the world sports a small tattoo on their wrist. It may seem unique upon comparing it with your friend’s, never being completely the same. It was an exciting concept – a tattoo that you can highlight your individuality. The tattoo was not something that appeared overnight, until your eighteenth birthday it simply and slowly became more visible. People waited eagerly for their tattoo to become completely noticeable.
At first you were excited too. Until you found out that it did not represent just you. At an early age, you were taught about soulmates. Apparently, the world was full of them – everyone had their own. This small mark which people flaunted on their wrist was just a hint. There was somebody else in the world that had the exact same marking as you, the exact same symbol that you thought was exclusive to you.
It irked you.
In high school, you were subjected to an abundance of conversations that focused solely on soulmates. All your friends complained about their unfinished tattoo and expressed their desire to meet the one person in the world that would truly love them. You didn’t understand.
One thing that did amaze you about the tattoos was how much power they had over people. Maybe there were people in the world like you, ones who disagreed with the soulmate concept, but you had yet to come across any. Most people let their life be dictated by the insignificant drawing adorned upon their wrist. Almost every new person they would come across, it would not be long before they compared tattoos to see if this was the person that would change their life.
However, just because someone was labelled as your soulmate, did it mean that your life with them would be fine and dandy as soon as you met? Just because soulmates existed did it mean that love at first sight did as well? Peoples’ willingness to devote their life to someone who they don’t even know confused you to an endless degree and made you promise to yourself at the young age of thirteen that you would not conform society’s excitement and expectations regarding soulmates.
You kept these opinions to yourself, not wanting to appear rude. If someone asked to see your tattoo, you granted their wish. Their deflated expression informed you that they did not sport the same picture on their wrist.
What was the chance of someone finding their soulmate anyway? There were billions of people in the world, looking for one would certainly prove a challenge. You had never asked any questions about the way soulmates worked but you had come to the conclusion that locating your ‘other half’ was rare.
As someone who was not interested in soulmates, you never gave a second thought about who you might be involving yourself with when it came to relationships. However, most of your relationships were short lived due to the other party being disappointed or repulsed by the fact that you were not their soulmate. In the end, it didn’t bother you. If they wanted to waste their life waiting for someone who they probably wouldn’t meet that was up to them. You thanked them for not wasting your time.
At college, you were thankful that the open conversations about soulmates were limited. Of course, the anticipation of meeting your soulmate was still present within the students. There were sometimes you wished you were like them, not so problematic, but you couldn’t put your thoughts for the past so many years to the side to embrace the idea of a soulmate. It just wasn’t happening.
Now, at twenty years old, you had decided what you wanted to do with your too common tattoo.
“What if you regret it?”
You looked up from your notebook to your best friend Nari. Ever since you had proposed the idea to her she had been hesitant to let you execute your plan. You acknowledged that she was looking out for you but your mind had been made up.
“I won’t, don’t worry,” you shrugged, regaining focus on the work in front of you.
“Maybe you should take a picture of it,” she suggested, “just so you don’t forget what it looks like.”
“I’m not really interested in remembering what it looks like.”
“Why?”
Sighing, you dropped your pen and once again tore you gaze away from the notebook. Nari knew you weren’t interested in soulmates but hardly ever tried to change your view or opinion – purposely.
“Let’s not talk about it,” you said, “Instead, let’s talk about how you’ve had your workbook open for half an hour and you’ve written the title.”
“What about your soulmate?” Nari completely ignored you, “If they find you, they won’t be able to tell.”
“If they met me, the fact that I have the same tattoo as them shouldn’t be the only reason they want to talk to me.”
Nari pursed her lips and dropped the subject, not wanting to upset you. Reluctantly, she picked up her pen and began her work. You smiled slightly before going back to your own work.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and there was a pleasurable, cool breeze that tickled your bare arms. All of your college classes were finished for the day but you were still present on campus, sitting at one of the many tables that resided outside in the sun.
“What if-“
Nari didn’t get to finish interrupting your work, the obnoxiously loud ringtone of your phone beating her to it. A small sigh escaped your lips as you fished the phone out of your pocket. It wasn’t a number that was saved in your phone but you knew who it was.
“Hello?” you asked as you answered the call.
“Hi, is this Y/F/N Y/L/N?” a masculine voice replied.
“Yeah it is.”
“I’m just calling regarding your appointment later today with us, the tattoo artist that we had you booked in for wasn’t able to make it into work today,” the voice explained, “However, another artist has discussed your tattoo with him and is happy enough to take over – only if you feel comfortable with it – or we can reschedule your appointment.”
You mulled over the preposition for a few moments before replying, “Is the other artist good?”
“Wouldn’t’ve hire him if he wasn’t.”
“I’ll see you later today then.”
“Alright, see you later.”
You said goodbye before hanging up. Depositing your phone back into your packet, you looked to Nari who had her gaze trained on you, a curious look in her eyes.
“It was the tattoo shop,” you clued her in, “the guy who was supposed to be doing my tattoo isn’t in today but another tattoo artist has offered to do it.”
“And you’re still going?” Nari cried in disbelief, “That is basically a sign to say you should not be doing this!”
“I’ve made my mind Nari, the sooner the better.”
“Do you want me to come with you?”
Smiling slightly, you shook your head at her.
You pushed the door open and stepped inside the brightly lit shop. As you looked around, you noticed the room was impeccably clean – the white walls having no marks on them. It slightly reassured you. Making your way up to the desk, you tried to ignore your best friend who trailed along behind you.
As you approached, the boy at the counter looked up and his face instantly lit up with a smile.
“Hi, I’m Y/N, I have an appointment,” you smiled back at the boy.
“Ah, yes, I’m Taehyung. We spoke on the phone earlier,” he nodded, “If you just want to take a seat and he’ll be out soon for you.”
“Yes, but she isn’t completely and one hundred percent sure that she’s going through with this,” Nari butted in. Taehyung looked between the two of you, a confused expression on his face. Sighing in frustration, you turned to her.
“Why would I not be going through with it?” you asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I’m just saying, maybe you’ll finally realise that it isn’t a great idea. That’s why I’m here! If you back out I’m a shoulder to cry on.”
“I specifically told you that you didn’t need to come. And if – if – I backed out, why would I cry about it?”
“I don’t know.”
Rolling your eyes, you turned back to Taehyung who now had an amused look on his face, “Ignore her.”
Not swayed by your firmness, Nari continued to spout words about how you shouldn’t do this and how she’d be on your side if you wanted to get out of here and go and get some food. You shut her down every time she would make a suggestion.
You weren’t kept waiting for too long and soon enough two boys walked into the room. One was gushing about the new piece of art on his body, thanking the other man profusely. The man simply waved him off, acting as if it were nothing.
Realising that this was her last chance to try and convince you to leave with her, Nari quickly turned her body to face you and grabbed your wrists.
“It’s not too late! If we go now I’ll pay for your McDonalds,” she offered, looking at you with pleading eyes.
Slowly, you pried your wrists from her grasp, “It’s fine, Nari. You can wait out here or you can go home.”
Groaning, Nari flung herself overdramatically back into her seat. You laughed quietly.
Someone in front of you cleared their throat with the intention of gaining your attention. You shifted you smile to the man in front of you. He was tall, wide shoulders and dressed all in black. Black jeans, black shoes and a black long-sleeved t-shirt. His hair was brown and lazily strewn across his forehead. In short, he was good looking.
“I’m Jungkook,” he introduced himself, “I’ll be the one doing your tattoo today.”
After one last begging look from Nari, you were guided to a private room by Jungkook.
“So, I was told it was a cover-up I’m doing for you,” Jungkook grinned at you and gestured for you to take a seat, “I just want to make sure you’re completely okay with this since I wasn’t the one who drew the design and haven’t spoken about it with you personally. I’ve had a long talk with Yoongi about it and I’m confident if you are.”
“No, it’s fine – totally and completely fine. The sooner it gets done, the better, to be honest,” you waved him off, not particularly caring that he was having to fill in.
“Can I see what I’m covering up?”
You wasted no time in shrugging your jacket off and sticking your wrist out in front of Jungkook. What you didn’t expect was for him to freeze when noticing it was the wrist that carried the special marking.
He was silent for a few moments and you were about to ask him if he was okay he tore his gaze away from the tattoo on your wrist.
“I didn’t know it was… this.”
“Is it a problem?” you worried. You had never thought about the tattoo artist being someone who cared about the markings so much. Maybe he would refuse to do the tattoo. Could he do that? If Nari was a tattoo artist you were sure she would refuse. Jungkook seemed to be having an internal battle over your question.
“I – uh,” he stuttered before concluding, “No. Uh, may I ask… why?”
“Because I don’t believe in it,” you answered confidently, “I don’t believe that my life should be dictated by this silly marking on my wrist. People invest too much of their lives into finding the other half. I think it’s impossible. Besides, who’s idea was it to decide that there was only one person living on this Earth that would be able to know you better than you know yourself? You can build up a relationship with anyone and they could care about me the same amount – possibly even more – than a so called ‘soulmate’ could. I’m also sick of people asking to see my wrist to compare it to the tattoo on theirs. Therefore, solution equals get rid of it.”
Jungkook stared at you. You imagined he was trying to process your views. You considered the possibility of an argument if he disagreed with you.
“Okay,” he finally nodded his head, turning away from you.
“Okay?” you questioned, expecting more.
“What?”
“I suppose I was just expecting more. Maybe voice your own opinions. I don’t really know. I’m just used to Nari telling me I’m wrong.”
“I’m not going to argue with you,” he shrugged, “I don’t really want you to hate me.”
“So, you do disagree with me,” you teased, not offended in any way.
“Don’t put words in my mouth, please,” he laughed.
You didn’t bring the topic back up and neither did he.
“Let’s get started then.”
