Ban chập chờn trước khi tắt hẳn nắng vào một ngày mùa hạ hóa ra lại lạnh lẽo đến nhường này. Mưa nhễu giọt rơi xuống mặt đường chầm chậm, một cơn mưa phùn không lớn, nhưng nó dai dẳng. Dai dẳng đến mức khó chịu. Ngồi thu lu một góc ở quán cà phê nhỏ ven lề đường, tôi gọi một ly đen đá để chờ giọt mưa ngơi bớt.
Một gia đình bình thường, một công việc đủ để chi trả phí sinh hoạt, một danh phận nhỏ nhoi nếu so với chốn đô thị phồn hoa này, ấy vậy mà tôi đã từng nghĩ mình nên sinh ra ở đây chứ không phải vùng quê hẻo lánh kia. Tôi mê lắm, tôi mê cái ánh hào quang của ngọn đèn đường cứ nhấp nháy mãi chẳng ngừng, tôi mơ mộng có thể lên thành phố tự lập, tối về lại xách xe chạy vòng vòng khắp mọi nẻo đường hoa lệ, chẳng để làm gì cả, chỉ là tôi muốn như vậy thôi.
Bằng cách này hay cách khác, cái mộng thành danh ấy làm tôi thích thú và ấm lòng đến lạ, ít nhất tôi hồi còn nhỏ là thế.
Lớn lên mới biết, dòng người đi qua lại mang trong mình vô vàn nỗi sầu đau, nhưng chẳng ai nói ai nghe, cứ ngoảnh mặt bước qua nhau thật nhẹ nhàng, thật bi thảm. Cũng khi lớn mới biết, chỉ việc sống thôi cũng đã là trách nhiệm rất lớn rồi, cho người nhà, cho họ hàng, cho bản thân, đôi lúc còn là người yêu hay bạn bè nữa. Lớn lên rồi, cái suy nghĩ hồn nhiên như hồi xưa cũng biến đâu mất tăm, đôi lúc còn ân hận mỗi khi nhớ đến hồi dậy thì dám cứng đầu cứng cổ cãi lại ba mẹ.
Trời cứ trút xuống mấy giọt mưa, chắc là ý đồ gì đó muốn tôi buồn rồi. Con gái mà, hễ mưa là lòng cứ chùng xuống một nhịp, không có chuyện gì buồn cũng phải kiếm để buồn cho bằng được.
“Sầu lắm ai ơi. Sầu còn hơn chữ sầu.” Tôi buông lời.
...
“Có chuyện gì mà sầu thế chị?”
Tôi giật mình, ngó ngang ngó dọc xung quanh, bởi ai ngờ lại có người ở đây đâu. Đối diện tôi là một dáng đàn ông cao ráo, trông hơi gầy nhưng không quá mảnh khảnh, trên ngực treo một chiếc máy ảnh hơi dính nước một chút, chắc là do nước mưa rơi trúng.
Tôi và anh cứ thế mà gặp nhau giữa phố xá đông người.
