Is It Too Late to Say I Love You? Pt. 3

jinu x f!huntr/x!reader

summary: you loved him. and he loved you. or so you thought. one day, he tells you that it’s all fake… but is it really?

word count: 828

warnings: ... all sadness? no happiness, i didn't add any in here LOL it also slightly follows the movie, i took a couple quotes from it! *there is a tiny eensie weensie bit of happiness here actually!

note: anddddd it's finally posted. sorry for the wait!! i was listening to your idol while writing this, so i added it for you guys to listen to while reading! once again, i'd love to hear any comments or corrections! ◡̈

You stare up at him, falling to the floor in disbelief. For a moment, he doesn’t move or speak. He stands there, his cloak billowing behind him, golden eyes unreadable behind the haze of the smoke.

He looks the same. But at the same time, he doesn't. There's something different about his presence; it’s heavier and colder. Like he’s finally bearing the burden of his sins, but has given up on everything.

“Jinu…” you whisper, then shout his name louder again, your voice hoarse. 

He doesn’t respond. 

He doesn’t even look at you. 

Of course he doesn’t. His words from the last time you saw him ring in your head. You look down, scoffing at yourself for even slightly believing that he came back here for you. Your disappointment slowly turns into annoyance as you watch him take a step forward towards Gwi-Ma, still ignoring you. 

Then, after a couple of unbearable seconds, he finally acknowledges your presence, but not in the way you would’ve liked. 

“You’re in the way,” he says flatly. “Get out of here.”

Your eyebrows furrow into annoyance, and you’re about to snap back at him before Gwi-Ma’s laughter cuts you off. His flames slowly dance away from you, his attention shifting fully to Jinu.

“You always were my favorite,” he purrs to him, voice dripping with false affection. “But look at you now—trying to pull a fairytale hero move? She really did a number on you~.”

Jinu doesn’t respond. His gaze hardens. 

“I didn’t come here for her,” he mutters, but you notice his voice sounds… unsure. Almost like he’s trying to convince himself. You squint your eyes, looking past Gwi-Ma’s flame and at Jinu’s face, trying to see his expression. Annoyance? Confusion? You can’t tell. You shake your head, eyes trailing from the two of them to the scene around you.

It’s still chaos.

Your girls, Rumi, Zoey, and Mira, are still battling the demons, trying to protect the fans, all while still clashing against the rest of the Saja Boys. You grip the handle of your claymore, wobbily standing back up. You need to help defend the fans. You need to fight. You need to defeat the demons, whether or not Jinu is on your side. 

“I came to end this.”

Your eyes widen, head snapping up. Did you hear that correctly…? What happened to “it’s impossible to beat him”…? You look in JInu’s direction, only to find out that he’s already gone. You search around wildly before finally catching the blur of Jinu’s outline charging straight towards the gigantic flame. 

His claws successfully slice through a part of the flame, and Gwi-Ma is barely able to avoid it. You slowly stand again, eyes wide as you’re unable to comprehend what’s happening. 

Jinu has turned… and so have the other boys. 

You notice them standing by the girls, helping them fight off the continuous onslaught of demons pouring from the teleportation hole. You glance back at Jinu, watching him fight hard against Gwi-Ma. 

But you notice something’s wrong. After one harsh blow, he stumbles backward, wiping the sweat from his forehead. He’s struggling now.  Even though it may have looked like he had the upper hand, his energy is draining quickly. 

He may be a demon, but he’s not Gwi-Ma, ruler of all demons. 

And his faith is slowly slipping away. 

He snaps at you. “Are you going to help me or what?!” 

You blink, startled, finally snapping out of it.

You grip your claymore, shaking your head aggressively before rushing into the fight. You continue to fight on opposite sides, unable to make it around to stand by him. Together, you fight against the ruler of demons, pushing yourself to your limit.

Through the smoke, just for a split second, your eyes lock. He sees your expression, full of other emotions, but he can see one clearly. 

Faith. In him.

With that, something awakens inside him. His heart starts to beat faster, feeling the blood rushing throughout his body, quicker. His body gets hotter, and his vision sharpens. Everything to help him focus more on the battle. 

And then he finally sees it.

It’s right there. There’s a soft glow in the center of Gwi-Ma’s flames, a dark red that subtly stands out from the flames, pulsing and pumping like a heart. 

That’s it. That’s his core.

Jinu takes a deep breath, closing his eyes briefly. When he opens them again, they’re blazing with determination. 

He’s faster than ever, his claws aiming straight for the center, where he sees the core glowing. You can’t keep up, a step or two behind him, eyes trying to follow his movements, and match him. For a second, you think he might be able to get him. But at the last second, Gwi-Ma is able to shift, creating a gap in his flames, and Jinu’s attack tears straight through that space where the fire once was.

Straight to where you currently are, caught mid-swing.

oooo okay, i’m so sorry for the late reply but here’s my answers!! reading this question made me so happy thank you for the questions!! i’m going to answer this in a way so that it is geared towards everyone and anyone who may have similar questions!

i’ll also be editing this post as i come along new answers :)

- i find myself not creative enough to do scenarios or hcs lol so for now, ill put those requests for the future! i’ll definitely get to them once i get the gist for this stuff, so please, don’t be afraid to send them in anyways!

- for the sake of how long the post gets, ill limit it to 5 characters per hc or scenario!

- i can definitely do the same prompt with different characters! in fact, its quite fun doing it like that, seeing how the story would play out differently per character 🙈

- i’m not very well-versed in other povs, so for now i’m only doing female reader, and probably gn reader as well! hopefully ill start doing male reader in the future soon!

- i will not write about any minor characters! it makes me feel uncomfortable to write about them, even if it’s pure fluff!

And yet… he was everywhere. You couldn’t escape him.

You couldn’t walk a block without seeing him. But each time, you’d stop. You’d stare for too long. You look at him the way a fan would—someone untouchable, far out of reach; just seeing him would be like a dream. But unlike them, you knew that smile once. The real one. The one he only showed to the other Saja boys… and you.

You knew—or you thought you knew—what it felt like to be loved by him.

And that’s what hurts the most.

It’s the day of the International Idol Awards, but things have quickly spiraled out of control. The stadium-turned-battlefield is pure chaos, with the Huntr/x and demons clashing all around. You, Rumi, Mira, and Zoey fight fiercely against Gwi-Ma’s force—but even during battle, you can’t help glancing around, hoping for a glimpse of him. 

“Looking for your little demon lover? He won’t save you this time.”

You whirl around, facing the massive, fiery flame of Gwi-Ma.

“What did you do to him?” You shout angrily, charging towards him with your claymore, anger surging through your entire body.

Gwi-Ma laughs mockingly, effortlessly deflecting your strike. “I did nothing. He made the choice to leave you. A wise one, I must say. Who in their right mind would choose to be with a weak human over fighting alongside the strong and amazing demon lord, Gwi-Ma? If anything, you were merely a distraction that Jinu could play around with whenever he was bored!"

Your breath catches in your throat. The weight of those words feels heavy on your shoulders, and it seems as though the world is spinning for a moment. “Why?” you demand, voice cracking, almost breaking. “Why would he leave me? After everything… after all we went through, how could he just walk away?”

Gwi-Ma’s smirk deepens, cruel and knowing. “Because you were never the priority. You were a convenience. A stepping stone. Love? Hah! Don’t flatter yourself.”

“Shut up!” You scream, lunging again. “You don’t know anything about me or Jinu. You don’t know the way he looked at me when no one else was watching—the way he held me like I was the only thing that kept him grounded! You think you can twist his choices and make him follow your path, but I know he didn’t want to leave me. You made him believe he had no choice!” You lift your chin, take a deep breath, and glare at the fire.

“All you care about is power—and that makes you the weakest of us all!”

Gwi-Ma tilts his head, amused.

“You keep saying that like it will change the truth. But let’s be honest,” he purred, voice low and cruel, “You’re not trying to convince me. You’re trying to convince yourself. Pretending he was forced. Pretending he didn’t mean it when he said he never loved you. It’s quite pitiful, honestly.”

You charge towards the flame with your weapon again, with Gwi-Ma easily blocking your attacks and sending you backwards, laughing as he does so. However, his words slam into you harder than any of his physical blows.

And the worst part?

He's not wrong.

You lower your blade slightly, the tip meeting the floor. Your voice comes out fragile and broken.

“He… he didn’t mean it,” you whisper. “I just… if I keep telling myself he didn’t, it hurts a little less.”

Your shoulders shake, and your knees buckle. You squeeze your eyes shut, trying to block out Gwi-Ma’s laughter, the flames, the battle around you, the truth. But it won’t go away. Nothing does.

Gwi-Ma’s flames blaze around you, his sinister laughter echoing through the air as he closes in slowly, ready to devour your soul.

Then suddenly, everything stills. Silence falls like a curtain. You crack one eye open, slowly looking up, and see something past Gwi-Ma's flames. You open both eyes, squinting.

A cloak whips in the wind. A dark silhouette. A pair of golden eyes. But most of all, a presence you could never forget.

Jinu.

“It was all a lie…” he said, his expression blank, voice flat and hollow, devoid of emotion. 

“It was real! What we had was real… I know it was!” you cried, your voice cracking as tears streamed down your cheeks. All those nights you snuck out of your room to meet him, both of you laughing together, crying together, gossiping, spilling your true feelings and secrets to each other—there was no way he didn’t feel anything.

“The things I said… I just needed you to trust me… that’s all…” he laughed bitterly, watching you crumble in front of him. His eyes blurred with tears, but even then, he felt nothing. Not even your pain could reach him now. “I need to go, Gwi-Ma’s waiting for me.”

“Jinu…. please…. I know it was real! All those times we spent at night, secretly with each other? They weren’t fake!” You beg him.

Jinu’s expression hardens as he watches you plead for him desperately. “Stop lying to yourself. Our relationship was purely for my benefit… for my mission. Gwi-Ma helped me realize that I can’t escape what I am, so I simply manipulated your emotions.”

Your face falls at his confession. A tear slips down your cheek as you step forward, reaching for him, unable to believe what he’s saying. “No… stop it! We had something… We had something real… We had something real… right?”

Jinu’s facade cracks slightly at the sight of your tear, his voice quiet. “I… I just can’t afford to care anymore.”

“Yes, you can!” You blurt out, grabbing his hands. “Stay here—fight Gwi-Ma with me and my girls, and you won’t have to hear the voices anymore after we seal the honmoon! I’m sure I can convince Rumi, Mira, and Zoey to let you fight alongside us!”

“You don’t understand!” Jinu snaps, jaw clenched as he glares down at you, exasperated. “Gwi-Ma has complete control over me, and it’s impossible to beat him! If I disobey, AND we lose, he'll make me relive my memories on repeat! Who knows how he'll manipulate my thoughts! He's already noticed my thoughts about you... He knows you're my weakness! What if he uses you against me? As..... punishment?"

He swallows, breath now slightly shaky.

"I… have to protect you from myself. I can’t trust myself around you anymore, and-”

“But I trust you! Isn’t that enough?” you cry, more tears slipping down. “I know you won’t hurt me… I trust you!”

Jinu’s hand tightens around yours, a storm of anger, sadness, and fear swirling in his eyes. “You’re wrong. I’ve already hurt you. And I’ll keep hurting you if I stay. I can’t risk it.”

Your body wracks with sobs. You shove him away, too blinded by heartbreak to realize what you’re saying next. “I’ll never forgive you, Jinu!”

Jinu stumbles back from your push, freezing at your words. A pained expression flickers across his face, but it quickly vanishes, hardening again. “Maybe that’s for the best… I don’t deserve you or your forgiveness anyway.” He takes another step back, creating even more distance between you.

Your expression instantly shifts into regret, and you take a shaky step toward him. “Wait, no… please, Jinu… that’s not what I meant. I’m sorry!”

He shakes his head, turning his back to you so you can’t see his face, preparing to leave. “No, I’m the one who should be sorry. I have to go.” 

You quickly close the distance between you and hug him tightly, shoving your face into his back. You bite your lip to keep from making a sound, wiping your tears with trembling hands. Smudged makeup stained all over your skin and his clothes, but none of it matters—not when this might be goodbye forever.

He stares into the distance, your arms still wrapped around him. He breathes deeply with a breath that sounds similar to a sob, almost like he’s trying to etch this into memory. For those couple of moments, he revels in it—the warmth, the love, and affection he’s searched for, but never thought he would be able to receive. When he speaks, his voice is sharp and cold, slicing into you like a sharp dagger made of icy glass. “Y/N. Stop deluding yourself. It was all a lie. Everything; the "love", the "affection"… everything was fake. I manipulated you, and now I’m leaving you. I don't know what shred of hope you're trying to cling to, but that's the truth. I'm leaving, and nothing is going to change my mind. Let go.”

You cry harder, his words finally sinking in. Your grip around his waist loosens. He takes that moment to disappear—the only trace of him being crimson dust, drifting around, before slowly falling to the ground, the scene almost beautiful. His words continue to echo in your mind, shattering the last pieces of your heart.

And that was the last time you ever saw or heard from him.
