Kurogane made an effort to keep his balance against the roof as Fai climbed into his lap. The mage was far from heavy, so it was minimal effort. Once he was settled, Kurogane set his chin on top of his head, making silky blond hair brush against his neck. He could still smell remnants of Clow in his hair: soaps and shampoos laced with desert flowers and exotic fruits.
He kept one hand on the dip in his back as the other one idly brushed through his hair. Whenever he encountered a knot, his fingers delicately tried to untangle it. This was his. He was his. Warm and alive in his arms with the promise of a happy future ahead of them. Kurogane couldn’t help but to smile.
The word birthright brought a twinge of painful nostalgia back to him. He had a birthright too, one that he forced himself to forget about, not intending to ever return to Suwa. The land was in ruin. No one was there anymore. He was the heir to a ghost town and he wasn’t sure what to do about it. If he should do anything about it.
“It wasn’t your fault. I’d been angry too. Having the people I loved most ripped away from me.” It seemed easier to say it now that his parents have been avenged. “And the suffering the kids went through as well. We were all the same. All for one selfish bastard’s wish.”

Every kiss with Fai was like dipping himself into his magic. He could feel the powerful magic with every touch, he could breathe it, feel it melting into his skin like it wanted to pull him in. It was the same energy that nearly singed his skin when they were in bed—and it was addicting. Such a force of nature, bending and writhing beneath his body in a fit of ecstasy.
Fai was right, it was very cheesy. Of course he was going to ask Fai to come back with him. The sacrifices he made for the mage on their journey wasn’t just on a whim. He did everything he did because he wanted Fai in his life. Until the end. In every life. It was a feeling so deeply embedded into his soul that he couldn’t find the right words for them. They were beyond words, so it felt like an injustice to try and condense them into words.
“It feels right. Having a future together.” He spoke softly, letting the blond cozy up to his side. The reassuring warmth coaxed out a part of him that only Fai has seen.
“Like breathing or eating.” Not having Fai at his side felt like a part of him was missing.

Suddenly, the words that Fai muttered to him in that café in Outo came rushing back to him. It was the first indication that Fai was not only trying to escape something, but to find someone that would help him escape, and take him somewhere far away from his past. And here they were: far away from the man who took his mother’s life and killed Fai’s brother. Even from the beginning, their fates were tied together.
“Mm.” A home. Just them. That was something he’d been thinking about too. They could easily find a home here in the capital. Surely there was some work Tomoyo could give him. Or Fai. Although… now that he thought about it, the thought didn’t sit well with him. They’d just been talking about how they weren’t the same people they used to be. When he was Tomoyo’s weapon, he was still consumed with anger. He was someone without direction.
Kurogane was a bit grateful for the change in subject, where the mage was asking him for a kiss. The warrior turned to him and really took in the sight of him in that kimono, admiring how beautiful he looked sitting next to him. With the kid, they got used to being careful showing affection… but now there was nothing between them.
So Kurogane put his hand on the thatched roof and leaned in for a slow kiss. They had nothing but time now. It was just them. Kurogane’s entire life was for Fai now and he wanted to savor every moment.

“Mm,” he agreed, remembering how bright the stars were at their camp at Yama. Thinking about it made that world seem like another life. They’d both been different people back then and so much time as passed. Back when… they were travelling with the other kids. His only experience in Celes had been bloodshed, a battle, and nearly losing everyone he loves.
Kurogane thought about everything Fai just said. Seclusion, fear, and the want for love and security. On their journey, Kurogane had been constantly alert, always ready to protect his little family… but now they were just… them. They were home.
And Kurogane was grounded by how much he longed for home. How willing he was to set adventure aside for a little while.
“We can only keep moving forward.” He agreed. “I’m not going to be doing the same thing here as I did before. That’s not the person I am anymore. I’m… not someone who is filled with anger anymore. And I’ve realized that there are many things that make a person strong—not just strength alone. And it’s the same with you, you’re not the same person you were before.” He turned his gaze to the beautiful mage next to him. Kurogane sometimes can’t believe his eyes; that this force of nature was his.
“Your past doesn’t restrain you. And I’ll tell you as many times as you need to hear it.” He meant it as a gentle reassurance, his way of telling Fai that he was here for him.

Kurogane couldn’t deny his blinding curiosity about seeing the blonde wearing Japanese clothes again. They’ve worn countless robes, suits, jackets, pants, armor, cloaks, tunics, any other possibility one could think of, but there was something special to him about returning to the clothes he’d grown up with. So Kurogane lingered nearby, unable to quell his curious energy.
And when Fai stepped out, it… looked ethereal. The mage looked truly like he was in clothes meant for him, ones that demonstrated how dainty and graceful he was. It fit well with his long silky hair, cascading over his back now that it was tied back. Yes, Kurogane has grown attached to his longer hair. It suited him just like his icy-blue eyes and pretty smile.
His eyes never left Fai, even when Tomoyo told him how welcome he was. He felt a swell of affection to the way the mage returned politeness to the princess, even though Kurogane knew that it was stupid to think they were a burden to her.
But Fai had lived most of his life thinking that his mere existence was a burden. That he was a threat. That he was dangerous. It was a sobering thought, even after all these years. Centuries of thinking such things didn’t just go away overnight and it made a rigid resolve solidify within Kurogane. He resolved to make the rest of the mage’s life better. That was why, once dinner had finished, Kurogane asked Fai to accompany him to the roof of the palace.
The waxing crescent moon was low on the horizon, nearly setting. Funny how it was almost symbolic: a time in their life that was setting, yet a new phase was beginning. “The last time I was up here was right before Tomoyo sent me away.”

A swell of affection bloated in Kurogane’s chest when Fai just seemed to know what to do without needing any cues, while not sacrificing anything about him. It wouldn’t feel right if Fai wasn’t annoying him with teasing words and Kurogane wasn’t growling at it. It was their normal. Besides, he suffered months of Fai’s cold shoulder, not even looking him in the eye. He’d never take those stupid nicknames for granted ever again.
“I’m so glad you liked the one I gave you last time! I had some more prepared for your arrival. Please, come follow me and I’ll show you. I do hope that you will like them!” She beamed happily. Kurogane wasn’t surprised that she was taking this much joy in dressing the mage, especially if that meant she could make them all frilly and pretty. He stayed a bit of a distance behind the two of them, not really wanting them out of his sight, but not caring to participate in the conversation.
“I would be delighted to have your help if you’re willing to give it.” She responded with a smile, then started to shift through the closet of clothes that was meant for Fai. Many… many clothes made for him. In every color. Her eyes twinkled as she handed him some things to try on.
“And do not worry about Kurogane being put to work. He would love to go retrieve new ink and tea tomorrow morning. And then help Souma with her duties in the garden too.”
Kurogane felt his lip twitch. Being volunteered to do things before he even said yes or no. How typical. Tomoyo and Fai were too damn similar.

New Beginning
It felt odd in a sense, wanting something new in life. Somewhere along the way in their journey, the warrior felt less like a vengeful killer who wanted nothing more than to grow stronger and more like… a man. A man who had loved ones, a purpose to protect them, and dreams. The more worlds he travelled to, the more he appreciated the home he left years ago, not because he was home-sick, but because he could see it in a way he couldn’t have before.
It made him long for a life that was stable. Somewhere along the way, his dreams started mirroring the kid’s, where he just wanted to be somewhere safe with the one person he loved most.
And, it went without saying, that person was the idiotic, powerful, kind, clever, gorgeous, infuriating, amazing magician. Their wonderfully complex relationship was what made it perfect. He was everything Kurogane could ever need. And that was why Kurogane was taking him back to Japan with him when they said their final goodbyes to the kid and the princess. That was why he held onto Fai’s hand as the mage conjured a spell that would take them home.
Tomoyo had been there at the entrance waiting for them.
“Welcome home, Kurogane. Fai-san.” She greeted with a wistful smile. Kurogane noticed in awe that she was visibly older, but not as old as she ought to have been for the time they’ve been away. They’ve been travelling for close to five.
“How much time has passed since the last time we were here?” He asked patiently.
“It’s been two years. Two very peaceful years.” She smiled wider—and Kurogane knew that was a passive jab at him, which made him growl low in his throat. “How about you set us up with some new clothes or something!”

Something tugged in his chest watching the omega leave the room. He knew that there was nothing to worry about, that the omega was in no danger of being cornered by a hot-headed alpha who wanted to take advantage of him, but… something made him want to follow. He could hear his father’s scolding words about hospitality echoing in his mind too.
He didn’t even know his name yet.
With that new purpose in mind, the alpha let out a light sigh and left the house and came back to the blond’s side. In the cool night air. During this time of year, some fireflies could be seen in the distance. Plus, the night sky was painted with faint, white clouds of the mysterious universe.
Kurogane towered over the omega by a full head and had a bulk that made him seem double his size. When they stood next to each other, looking at the stars, Kurogane humored thoughts of courting. Action of such thing was in the future though.
“You can call me Kurogane. You… don’t have to worry about the job tonight. I’ll talk to mother about it. And… I can show you to where you need to sleep and bathe.” He forced out, assuming a role of authority even though he didn’t often do this kind of thing. Something just didn’t feel right about someone else handling the omega.

“That was being decent, not being kind. You’ve clearly been surrounded by asshole alphas.”
Now that there wasn’t a collar around his neck, the guy seemed to be lively. His eyes were meeting Kurogane’s. His back was straighter. His appearance just seemed more… radiant now. If anything, he was more beautiful now, just like the comment about appreciating the gems more. The omega even smelled better, probably because he felt more relaxed. Either that or the messenger beta was stinking up the place.
He was thinking that perhaps beauty was more noticeable when it wasn’t tainted by corruption, but the poetic, flowery words were too sickeningly sweet for Kurogane to say. He’d probably gag if he were to say them.
“My mother is the one who looks after that kind of thing. Besides, my father is going to be away for a while yet. If you want a job here, I’ll tell her and she can find something for you to do. You’re going to stand out since no one has features like yours, but several workers here are omegas as well. The only alphas in this house are myself and my father.” Having any other alphas here was unacceptable. The bond Kurogane had with his father was what kept the aura here peaceful even though there were two grown alphas.

The coward already fled, probably about to mount his horse and run for cover. Kurogane would never be so short of wit as to hunt the messenger unless they made a personal attack on him. His departure meant that he was alone with the beautiful omega though. And suddenly, Kurogane was left wondering what he was to do with this gift now that he was free. He hadn’t expected the omega to wish to stick around, after all.
“It matters little to me where you go. There is work here that you may do if you wish to stay. There is work in the village nearby as well. The choice is yours now that you’re free.”
He scoffed and picked up a stray diamond that got caught in the man’s hair. It was a moment that allowed Kurogane to feel how silky soft the golden strands were. Yes, he was certainly beautiful, the most beautiful omega he’s laid eyes on.
“Heh, you think that’s the reason I freed you?” Kurogane smirked, twiddling the gem between his fingers and tilting his head, peering down into those icy blue eyes.
“I’m not going to take a mate that’s a slave. No mate of mine is going to lack free will.” Kurogane didn’t want to remove the possibility of them being mates, but he refused to have their interaction begin with the omega blindly serving him. It left a bad taste in his mouth.

Kurogane was now twenty-seven: the perfect age to be married off, at least according to everyone else but Kurogane. He never liked the idea. In fact, he hated it. He knew that it was his duty to Suwa, to his family’s legacy, but the son of Suwa hated the idea of being tied down to a wife he didn’t even know. There had been many attempts to get him interested in someone, but they’d all been in vain.
His mother would never tell him, but he was certain that she just wanted to see him mated so that she may have grandchildren. She was a patient woman who never took out anything out on her family, which was why Kurogane always humoured her when she brought another potential mate to see him.
This had been the first time that he’s ever been offered a male omega though. They were exceptionally rare, after all, which might be why Kurogane was so intrigued by them. To his surprise, the sight of the omega took his breath away in an instant. A shock of attraction jolted through him the moment he laid eyes on that soft face, golden hair, and fair skin.
To his greater surprise, he’d been bought. An omega slave: given to him as a gift. Property. The idea repelled him in an instant, not wanting to be the master of anyone. His favor wasn’t going to be bought by some foreign kingdom no matter how gorgeous the omega was.
So Kurogane stepped up to the omega. He took a hold of the delicate collar wrapped around his elegant neck, twisted it around once, and then a swiftly yanked, snapping the threads and sending the jewels scattering across the floor.
“You’re free. You serve no one.” Kurogane looked the omega in the eye as he said it, then turned to the omega’s keeper with a stern glare. “You can go. The gift has been delivered.”

His eyes darted to the bottle of oil that appeared next to him, lightly floating down to the table before he was yanked into another heated kiss. Kurogane moaned and grunted as their tongues met, he indulged for a moment, then bit at his lip and sat back up. That was when his tunic came off, revealing a hard, muscular torso that he worked tirelessly to maintain. It wasn’t uncommon for him to not have a shirt to cover it, or only half a shirt to cover it. He couldn’t care less who saw his body.
“You want to be full, do you?” Oh, Kurogane gave a sinister and dark smirk while oil dripped onto his fingers. Once the bottle was back down, he pushed two of his dry fingers past those wet, moaning lips moments before he teased the tight ring of muscle.
“You’re going to be so full you’re going to forget your own name.” He then pressed his slick finger inside the impossibly tight and impossibly hot ass. Fuck, that was going to feel amazing clamping over his cock. Kurogane’s chest rumbled with the anticipation of it, making his fat cock leak more precome.
“You are pretty like this. One day I’m going to put my cock in that hot little mouth too.” Kurogane nearly licked his lips like a salivating predator. Whatever sexual desire he’d repressed over the years was rearing its head and taking the form of a hungry beast. If it weren’t for his unshakable self-control, Kurogane would be hurrying, but he knew that slowly opening him up like this, one finger at a time, playing the smaller body like a beautiful instrument was going to reward him with gorgeous noises and a wanton lover.

What a fucking turn on it was to have the smaller body submit to him so eagerly. He didn’t hold back in rutting his hips forward to encourage his cock to grow harder and harder. Once his lips were on Fai’s neck, he groaned and sucked on the soft skin. Such fair skin was sure to allow a mark to form under the slightest bit of abuse. The thought of leaving his mark on the beautiful body was invigorating.
Gods, he wasn’t even surprised the little minx knew a spell that could prepare him for his cock. As much as he wanted to plow forward and fuck the magician senseless as soon as possible, he wanted to savour this first time for a little while longer. The spell would come in handy later when he was more impatient.
“Save it for another time. I’m going to do it.” He groaned. A firm hand snuck up into Fai’s robe and caressed up his stomach and chest. He was enjoying breathing in the scent of his warm skin, clearly freshly bathed as well. His cock was already rock hard now, an impressive girth tenting in his pants.
“I want to see you writhing under me. You must look pretty when you’re begging for cock.” He smirked, biting at Fai’s collarbone as he pushed away the rest of Fai’s clothes.

Kurogane’s cock swelled feeling that sly little tongue against his thumb. He imagined it flickering against the head of his cock too. It was getting more difficult by the minute to keep his control in check because he really wanted to draw this out, but the minxy little mage was making it so difficult.
A slender, milky thigh was exposed the moment he shifted his legs and Kurogane’s big, tanned hand was on it in an instant, sliding up soft and warm skin until he was shifting the robe up further. Soon his palm was brushing up against even warmer skin near Fai’s hip and his hand squeezed, showing the extent of his growing arousal.
“I intent do.” His eyes grew dark and his control snapped. He decided to go for it and lean in for a heated kiss, pushing the man down against the soft pillows. His hands roamed all the way up his thighs before sneaking to the inside of them. Fuck, he wanted this. He wanted this so badly. He wanted the smaller body writhing under him.
He ached to have his cock buried inside him. Fai may have been the one who was selfish in trying to monopolize him, and he’d let him… in exchange for the chance to monopolize the magician in bed. Have the soft, pliant body all to himself.

He parted his lips and took the piece of cheese in, feeling like pampered royalty being spoiled like this. It made that surge of arousal grow even further, imagining kissing the elf’s fingers the next time he fed him.
Oh? Kurogane smirked wide. The magician was possessive of him, was he? Thinks he can have a certain claim over him like he was some sort of dog who would obey his commands the moment he became his guard? Of course Kurogane knew he had the chance to go home if he wanted. There was no one here who could physically stop him.
Kurogane took one piece of cheese and pressed it against Fai’s soft lips, prompting him to eat it. “I would have left a long time ago if there was anywhere else I needed to be.” He said, then rimmed the bottom lip with his thumb. Oh, how hot those lips would look wrapped around his swollen cock. A little lost in the fantasy, his thumb pushed inside his mouth and pressed against the tip of Fai’s tongue.
“I’m taking the job. And a little extra while I’m at it.” He murmured low and predatory. His eyes were dark with desire, flickering shades of red and gold from the fire in front of them.

The moment he walked into the spacious room, the aura of seduction hit every one of his senses. The fire place, the soothing scents in the air, the image of the elf draped in silky robes and equally soft hair, waiting for him with some wine. Heated want stirred in his gut. His cock twitched under his clothes. How long had it been since he’s had sex? How long has it been since there’s actually been someone Kurogane wanted to fuck?
This magician though… he was skilled in his craft, witty, intelligent, and so damn beautiful.
“He must be busy. I’ve yet to see him.” He took a sip of his wine and let the elf inch towards him. God, he smelled so good. His soft skin looked so tempting to touch. The warrior shifted his legs closer in silent invitation, already imagining how gorgeous he’d look with his wrists pinned down and his legs spread.
“Did you give me this job because you wanted an excuse to have me closer to you?” He asked with a tinge of seductive playfulness in his voice. He already knew he’d be good at it. He was confident he would be.

The more time Kurogane spent here, the more he started to realize that there was something more to this kingdom than the magician was telling him. The warrior couldn’t decide what his gut was telling him, mainly because he didn’t have enough evidence yet. Kurogane has lived a relatively smooth life here. Everyone was serving him. Everyone was accommodating him as if he wasn’t a foreigner, of a difference race, and possessed no magic.
Since nothing bad was happening to him, he didn’t think too much about it.
Then it clicked. The moment the elf gifted him a magnificent sword, one that was as beautifully crafted as it was sturdy, he said a word that brought all his wits back to him. The king. There was no king, no ruler even. He had been living here for a while and he hadn’t seen one person in power, nor has any person of power come to talk to him, address him, or address anyone else.
This mysterious king that Fai was talking to didn’t exist. Unless…
…Hmm. Kurogane smirked for more than one reason. The invitation to Fai’s bedroom with the promise of wine curled something hot pang in his gut. Want.
“Sounds fun.” His murmur was deep and husky when he turned his head to speak it softly next to the elf’s ear. And the job as his guard? Yeah, he’d take it. He’s been overtly bored lately, so it was about time he had something to do.
When he knocked on the heavy doors of Fai’s chambers that night, it was after he’d bathed thoroughly.
