things are not as they   ought  to be .   objects strewn about the carpets , missing trinkets from the towering shelves , drapes pulled from the walls     (     and the sole   mirror   he possesses !      )     although despite these telling signs , even before approaching the steps to his hidden abode he’d known in his that his underworld has been infiltrated by   an intruder .  his grip took hold of the red rope in the folds of his cloak upon entry , and corpse - like fingers retained their hold as he surveyed with a crouching stride the state of his lair .  but there are always give  &  takes , when another is present .  a survival instinct to bury himself away from the human race has put him on alert , sharpened his senses to the most keen adaptation possible .  the things he’s faced have warped him  SUPERHUMAN  in his capability to detect his foes .   but even now there is something  different  about the way his hidden aspects have been pervaded .   is mortal discovery not everything you’ve fortified yourself against  ?

               NOT  OFT  IS  HE  QUITE  SO  MESSY  IN  UNFAMILIAR  SURROUNDINGS   //   his  mother  has  taught  this  god  at  least  a  little  respect.  but ,  alas ,  he  shows  NONE  here.  it’s  rather  a  funny  thing  he  finds  here  actually  ——  excepting  simply  a  cold  and  graceless  place  to  hide  so  soon  after  his  escape  from  the  CLUTCHES  of  justice.  but  what  does  he  find  here   ?     a  whole  little  home  that  some  stranger  has  made  themselves  beneath  the  city   !     oddly  REPUGNANT  location ,  yet  loki  finds  curiosity  in  it.  traps  designed  for  MORTAL  MEN  do  little  to  hinder  him   //   god  of  mischief  finds  his  way  inside.

          interior  is  surprisingly  well  kept ;  furnished  and  almost  comfortable  in  style.  of  course  loki  shows  no  respect  to  it  ——  is  soon  dislodging  everything  around.  things  pulled  out  of  place ,  a  TRINKET  OR  TWO  even  gaining  enough  interest  to  be  concealed  within  folds  of  the  fabric  he  wears.  his  discovery  is  inevitable ,  eventually ,  and  an  accusatory  voice  does  not  unsettle  nor  surprise  him.  COOLLY ,  in  fact ,  he  moves  from  shadows  into  the  light  to  face  this  MASKED  MAN.     “   i  am  remarkably  light - footed.   ”     half  lie  but  NOT  untrue.  edge  of  a  smile  graces  his  features  as  he  glances  around  once  again.     “   you  have  a  LOVELY  home.   ”     there  is  no  sincerity  in  his  tone ,  but  he  is  polite  enough  to  mask  it  JUST  ENOUGH  that  it  does  not  obviously  become  a  lie.

     “yeah me neither.” the genius stands outside the cell, arms folded across his chest, straight faced, a hard glint in his eyes. the bags under his eyes, the shadows colouring his gaze, they might be obvious to any observant man. but loki isn’t even looking at him, staring at the ceiling like an apathetic, stroppy teenager. ( any other day, month, he might find that amusing. now he barely even notices. )

     “i have a few questions i want to ask you.” tony knows he has no reason to trust the answers loki might give him. the god lies, he twists words, his reputation precedes him. he is their ENEMY. and there is every reason to believe that loki may simply refuse to answer. either way, this is tony’s last option. there is no one else on this planet who might have the answers tony is looking for. he is DESPERATE.

     “i need you to tell me everything you know about THE CHITAURI.”

               “   DO  YOU   ?   ”     laden  with  fake  curiosity  ——  an  interrogation  holds  little  more  delight  for  him  than  meaningless  chatter  does.  BUT  STILL  after  a  moment  he  offers  a  WORLD - WEARY  sigh   //   rolls  eyes  and  swings  his  weight  sideways  to  sit  cross - legged  on  his  mattress.  fixes  gaze  upon  the  other.  attention  is  ONLY  OFFERED  because  of  a  vague  concern  that  particular  race  may  be  back  somehow.     “   the  CHITAURI  are  simple ,  war - hungry  creates  who  followed  whoever  they  were  told  to ,  as  long  as  they  had  their  WITS  ABOUT  THEM  and  could  wear  armour  well.   ”     he  speaks  in  a  strange ,  detached  way ,  is  if  that  ‘ WHOEVER ’  had  not  been  himself.

          he  stands ,  finally ,  and  begins  to  pace  a  circle  around  his  cell     (   stretch  his  legs  a  little   )     that  finishes  just  in  front  of  the  other.  head  tilts  a  fraction  as  he  now  gets  a  LOOK  at  the  other’s  face ,  tone  a  little  DIFFERENT  next  he  speaks.     “   you  look  rather  TERRIBLE.  are  you  unwell   ?   ”

it is NO SECRET that jim hates the holiday season. from late october to january he had to deal with annoying carols, tacky decorations, christmas murders ( how BANAL ), et cetra, et cetra. this year, however, sees jim actually buying a gift for loki. it is not without THOUGHT: a wonderful ( EXPENSIVE ) cologne, fingerless leather gloves ( for the AESTHETIC ), a small but mighty dagger, and jasmine-scented shampoo ( for the running HAIR JOKE ). jim does not even bother with WRAPPING; gift bags are the way to go. green and gold are the chosen colors, fittingly. 

the god is already in bed reading a book from jim’s ( rather small ) library when jim walks in with the present. ’ merry christmas, happy late yule. ’ he shrugs his shoulders, handing loki the bag.

     tony shrugs, carelessly spinning the gun. “a water pistol can be LETHAL if you get the pressure high enough. or if you fill it with acid.” the genius was a weapons manufacturer, there were few ideas he hadn’t had. “this one’s a stunner, actually. i’m experimenting with non-lethal methods. have you ever seen star trek? you’d probably hate it. promotes PEACE.”

               “   IF  A  WATER  PISTOL  CONTAINED  ACID ,  it  would  surely  cease  to  be  a  WATER  pistol.   ”     said  mildly ;  no  note  of  ARGUMENT ,  but  he  takes  pleasure  in  pedantry  all  the  same.  eyes  flicker  over  the  weapon.     “   you  mean  you’ve  found  the  conclusion  that  unleashing  your  HULK  on  enemies  is  not  an  effective  enough  tranquilliser   ?     oh  dear ,  did  it  DIE   ?   ”

       jim almost LAUGHS at the first reply, an unobscurable SMIRK donning his face. in comparison ( HE thinks), perhaps loki fits the phrase BETTER than the criminal himself.

                   calling me DRAMATIC is fresh coming from YOU. ’

               “   AS  I  SAY  ——  i  am  not  averse  to  dramatic  FLAIR.   ”     eyes  roll   //   CLAIM  leaving  him  unaffected     (   he  see s  no  truth  in  it ,  of  course   !   ).     “   you  simply  must  learn  to  MEASURE  your  need  for  it.   ”

          SHE’S CRASHED ONTO THE EARTH SO SWIFTLY, knocked out of the night sky by a rather UNKNOWN force. the earth lays damaged beneath her, a necklace of unknown origin next to her as though another simple star struck out of the night sky rather than the cause of her own DESCENT. why she had decided to place it pon her neck is unknown, but once after she does cerulean gaze catches sight of the other’s approach, dark brows furrowing at his inquiry. DID HE NOT KNOW of her ? current agitation finally arises to let itself be known, a breath of a CHUCKLE escaping porcelain lips. 

              “  You’re funny, aren’t you ? Oh of course this is where it landed ! Just where this odd NECKLACE knocked it out of the sky over there, & it now sits here talking to a strange man asking the wrong QUESTIONS.      ”

               HE  BLINKS  AT  HER ,  SLOWLY ,  a  little  THROWN  OFF  by  both  antagonistic  tone   &   the  words  they  carry.     “   ...  you   ?   ”     you’d  expect  him  to  frown ,  yet  instead  his  face  breaks  into  a  somewhat  BEMUSED  smile     (   allows  a  chuckle ,  even   ).     “   YOU’RE  the  fallen  star   ?   ”     their  surroundings  FORGOTTEN ,  his  gaze  looks  over  the  other  as  if  he  could  possibly  tell  whether  she  speaks  the  truth  or  not.  it’s ...  a  REMARKABLE  idea ,  even  if  he  is  not  entirely  convinced.     “   how  is  that  possible   ?   ”

 he  existed  on  his  own  ,            without  any  need  for  another  presence  .            he  did  ,            of  course  ,            have  his  staff  to  accompany  him  in  his  miserable  confinement  ,            though  the  thought  of  them  ,            the  sight  of  them  ,            always  struck  him  into  woe  .            he  needed  no  one  else  here  ,            now  ,            to  bother  him  .                      ❝      i  am  not  here  for  your  ENTERTAINMENT  .      ❞

               YET  HE  DOES  ENTERTAIN  HIM  ——  in  everything  he  has  heard  of  midgard ;  in  his  previous  visits     (   however  few  and  far  between  they  have  been   ) ,     NO  TALE  has  mentioned  a  creature  such  as  this.     “   i  meant  no  offence ;  forgive  me.   ”     yet  words  speak  a  sentiment  his  tone  does  NOT  hold.

the ALARM seems to delay when the criminal’s comment is given. jim is not IRATE about the fact loki left the realm for six months, but he sure is bothered by it. the crimson is all over the god’s body, and cuts and gashes SPOT most open areas of skin. obscured bruises would soon MANIFEST, he imagines, and most likely multiple bones were broken. clearly, for a god with centuries of training and with faster healing abilities, he got his ARSE HANDED TO HIM. 

the direness of the situation FINALLY registers.

‘ alright, alright. TRY and put your arm around me so you don’t COLLAPSE outside. ’

               “   THANK  YOU.   ”     perhaps  he’d  spoken  a  little  HARSHLY ,  but  the  possibility  of  jim  being  a  little  offended  is  not  top  of  loki’s  concerns  just  now.  he  tries  to  move  LITTLE ,  in  honesty somewhat  scared  he  may  INDEED  collapse.  slowly  he  moves  to  link  one  arm  over  jim’s  shoulders  ——  tries  not  to  lean  ALL  his  weight  upon  the  other  but  it  becomes  more  difficult  than  he  would  have  liked.
