Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest-serving former prime minister, has been shot during a campaign speech in the western city of Nara in the most significant act of political violence to rock the country in half a century.
Abe collapsed at about 11:30am and was taken to hospital by helicopter after two shots hit his neck and left collarbone, according to the local fire department. He was unconscious and in cardiac arrest.
The shooting of one of Japan’s most influential modern leaders will shock a society that has suffered little political violence for decades, and where guns are owned by only a handful of people.
“This is a heinous act of brutality that is utterly unforgivable,” said Fumio Kishida, the current prime minister of Japan. Abe’s condition was grave, Kishida said.

Elton John health: 'I went through every test known to man' – the star's health concern
Back in the summer of 1999, Sir Elton John wasn't feeling 100 percent while playing tennis at his home in Nice, France. Attributing his dizziness to heat exhaustion, the singer still intended to go to Victoria and David Beckham's wedding in Ireland the very next day. However, instead of turning up for the nuptials at The Luttrellstown Castle Resort estate in Dublin, Sir Elton headed to London for medical assistance. "I went through every test known to man to find out exactly what was wrong," Sir Elton told Rolling Stone magazine.

Everyone at Hibernian FC is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Andy Goram following a short battle with cancer.
Joining the Hibees in 1987 from Oldham Athletic, Goram kept a clean sheet on his debut in a 4-0 win over Dunfermline. His performances went from strength-to-strength and that, combined with his leadership skills, saw him become Club Captain.
Not only was he key between the sticks, but he also achieved the unusual feat of scoring a goal in the Scottish Premiership. A huge kick out caught out the opposing goalkeeper and flew into the net in a 3-1 home win against Morton. He was also partial to taking penalties, bagging one in a shoot-out win against Clydebank in the League Cup.
One thing that supporters will never forget is when he “defied logic” against RFC Liège in Europe. He twisted mid-air to stop an Angelo Nijskens header.
Following his time at Hibs, Goram moved to Rangers before featuring for a number of different clubs. He played for Notts County, Sheffield United, Motherwell for three seasons, Manchester United - where he helped the Red Devils claim the Premier League in 2001, Hamilton Accies, Coventry, another spell at Oldham, Queen of the South and then lastly Elgin City.

Lewis Hamilton demands action after Nelson Piquet uses racist epithet about him
Lewis Hamilton has said “the time has come for action” after a video emerged with the three-times F1 world champion Nelson Piquet using racist language when speaking about the British driver. Piquet used the term in an interview that was conducted last year but which was released publicly on Monday night.
Formula One and Hamilton’s Mercedes team had already condemned Piquet on Tuesday morning but Hamilton reacted with anger via Twitter, stating: “It’s more than language. These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport. I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life. There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”

Follow all the action as Wimbledon gets underway with Novak Djokovic, Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray all in action on day one.
It was at Wimbledon last year that Djokovic equalled Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s men’s grand slam record of 20 titles with a victory over Matteo Berrettini, however, the Serbian has since fallen two behind the Spaniard. The No 1 seed at this year’s tournament due to the ban on Russian players, leaving Daniil Medvedev unable to compete, Djokovic will open the action on Centre Court against Soonwoo Kwon.
It will then be the turn of Emma Raducanu to make her Centre Court debut after her remarkable run to the fourth round at last year’s tournament. The US Open champion has shaken off injury concerns but faces a tricky opening match against world No 46 Alison van Uytvanck, who reached the fourth round herself in 2018.

How “Elvis” Plays the King
Last year was not great for Elvis Presley. According to Forbes, which tallies up the take-home pay of the dead, he made a mere thirty million dollars in 2021—more than Arnold Palmer, it’s true, but less than Bing Crosby and Dr. Seuss. Elvis can rest easy, though. This year, his income could see a healthy spike, thanks to the latest Baz Luhrmann film, “Elvis,” which features Austin Butler in the title role. Presleyologists will learn nothing here, and purists will find plenty against which to rail. Less knowing viewers, however, may well be sucked in by Luhrmann’s lively telling of the tale. This is not a movie for suspicious minds.
Any fan of musical bio-pics will be familiar with the form: a hop, a skip, and a jump from one highlight to the next. (Some of the highs, needless to say, are lows.) In the case of Elvis, this means that we meet him in his youth—played by the striking Chaydon Jay, the rare intensity of whose gaze really does set the kid apart. Hurrying onward, we get a pit stop of Elvis as a truck driver, with his guitar swung up over his shoulder like a rifle; the cyclonic sight of Elvis onstage, pretty in pink, and whipping a crowd into a Dionysian froth; Elvis on the Steve Allen show, in white tie and tails, singing “Hound Dog” to a gloomy pooch; Elvis escaping to Beale Street, in Memphis, to hang out with B. B. King (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.) and to revel in Little Richard (Alton Mason); Elvis in Army uniform, looking impossibly spiffy and pitching his woo to Priscilla (Olivia DeJonge), the daughter of a captain; Elvis lamenting the deaths of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy; Elvis lounging inside a vowel on the Hollywood sign, and being told that his career is “in the toilet”; Elvis performing in residence at the International Hotel, in Las Vegas, flush with renewed success; and Elvis sitting sadly in a limousine, beside a private jet, and saying to Priscilla, “I’m gonna be forty soon, ’Cilla. Forty.” Has the prospect of age never occurred to him until now? Two years later, he is gone, though the movie spares us the unlovely particulars of his end.

Austin Butler sings in new 'Elvis' biopic
Tackling the role of Elvis Presley is a daunting challenge. There are millions of adoring, protective fans who will watch and critique every move and curled lip. Numerous actors have tried playing the King in big and small-screen productions: Don Johnson in "Elvis and the Beauty Queen" from 1981, Michael Shannon in 2016's "Elvis and Nixon," and David Keith in the 1988 effort, "Heartbreak Hotel," just to name a few. Probably the most acclaimed performance (and deservedly so) was delivered by Kurt Russell in "Elvis," the 1979 TV movie directed by John Carpenter.
Now, a 30-year-old actor named Austin Butler – probably best known for his role as Charles Manson follower Tex Watson in "Once Upon a Time….in Hollywood" – has given us his take on the famed performer in the new theatrical film "Elvis," and he has simply hit the ball out of the park. The movie is elevated even higher by Oscar-winning co-star Tom Hanks and the stunning visual style of acclaimed writer/director Baz Luhrmann ("Romeo + Juliet, "The Great Gatsby").
The film begins with a big visual splash – Presley's famous "TCB" ("Taking Care of Business") logo, which blends into the Warner Bros. shield. We then encounter the singer's aging former manager, Col. Tom Parker (a very heavily made-up Tom Hanks), now near-death and eager to set the record straight on whether he was a manipulative charlatan or someone who had the singer's best interests at heart. By the way, Hanks spent between two-and-a-half to five hours each day in the makeup chair to achieve the look of the heavyset promoter.
