‘I’m just going to do a quick warm up painting before working on the thing I actually need to finish’
Brain: ‘:)’
..and 3 hours later here we are.
Daughter of Thorns
I’ve been wanting to make some gw2 fan art again for a while, especially since I’ve been playing quite a bit again lately. So here’s my favorite pouty plant, Caithe.

Just chiming in with all the other nice people to say that you're a super amazing artist that makes me jealous that I can't draw even a quarter as well as you can. I remember outright gasping when I saw that Paladin piece you posted a few weeks, you're so good!!
So I’ve been wondering what to say to this while doodling, and while I know I should technically just say thank you and move on, mentioning that you (I think) are also an artist made me think.
I’m not very good at motivational speeches and English isn’t even my native language so rip us all, but here’s just a few quick things that I haven’t seen other artists mention:- A lot of what makes it to the Finaru Uproadu on social media is drawings I’m at least 80% certain are alright to look at.Most of what I attempt to doodle is outright shot in the kneecaps mid-race because it stands no chance at reaching the finish line. Day after day I’m terrified I’ve forgotten all I’ve learned about drawing overnight. Sometimes I do forget all I’ve learned. Aiming to feel confident and cool while drawing is a fool’s dream. I can promise you you’ll always feel stupid.
Nobody wants to see us being third graders on canvas and I understand the shame that comes with screwing up. However I’d really suggest picking at least one person, whoever you happen to talk to more often, or just someone you trust, and showing them all the work you’re unhappy with. There’s a couple of reasons for that: 1. They might give you valuable advice that could potentially save a dying drawing, and 2. Seeing that the world won’t end.
With all the amazing art that is out there and all the people we look up to, the pressure to perform could get so high it turns us off trying. And while I’m equally ready to drool over other people’s work, who cares where you’re at in comparison? It’s yo thang, you’re sitting there by yourself doing it hour after hour.
This comparison might sound a bit pretentious but the process of drawing should be like chess - you’re not exactly sure how you’re gonna win but you do need to think a few steps ahead, just so you don’t get stuck halfway through obsessing over some minor detail.
And another quick point: don’t be afraid of saying ‘no’ to doing things for the sake of working on what you love. Good art graces us with its presence so rarely I think it’s imperative to squeeze it by the balls whenever it’s around. People who care for your success will understand and encourage that. The rest could be thrown off a bridge reasoned with.
I hope you’ll be able to achieve all your goals, I really do.
