they’re stomping around his dilapidated apartment, going around in circles like actual school children. this should’ve gotten old ages ago– katherine’s incessant need to lecture, constantly. for a woman who showed up in his life literally just to ruin it, she certainly did a shitty ass job of it. so far, the world ended and she’s done nothing but save his life repeatedly. and now she’s convinced that’s what she’s doing again.

“if you’re asking why i haven’t given up on saving elena, then i pity you.” okay, now joshua is really bitter at asher. he couldn’t have expected salvatore to leave well enough alone, he supposes. there isn’t time for this nonsense– the fireflies could go after any of them any day now, yet here katherine and asher were, trying to save his life at the risk of their own. the three of them really were a fucked up trio.

he finally stops avoiding the vampire and instead steps right up to her, toe to toe. “i am not leaving the qz without elena. point blank. she is my family. i didn’t put the blood in her system, but i put her on that bridge that night. she did, however, turn it off because of me. i owe it to the people she and i used to be to fight for her soul.”

and perhaps it’s bold of him, but his fingers are clasping the side of her face now. “this is different than before, and i know you have no reason to believe that because i haven’t exactly been trustworthy. but you know me, katherine.” his gaze dips just for a moment before returning to hers. the intensity is still there, but it rests behind warm, brown eyes. “if i’m leaving, it has to be with her. and the longer you’re here, the longer i’m distracted worrying about you. asher doesn’t understand, but i’m hoping that you will help him. please. i need to know that you’re safe. all of you.”
