Jonathan couldn't sleep, not for the life of him.

He had attempted to go to bed over an hour ago. He had showered, he had eaten, he had taken his medication, including the copious amount of pain killers he often had to gulp down just to try and soothe the pain of his back and bad knee, or the many tightening aches of his joints.

Yet sleep only continued to elude him, shown by the ever-deepening of his eye bags. Which had been a part of his gaunt face since his teenage years. Exhaustion was just a constant for him, a cruel, unforgiving shadow that has been, and as he believed-- will only continue to loom over him for the rest of his life.

He sits up, rubbing his face and staring at the wall. Taking in the peeling wallpaper of his empty old home. His gaze briefly drifted to the window. Outside, only showed the darkness of a field, lightly touched by moonlight. He figured moving out to a more rural area outside of Gotham would aid in handling his ongoing insomnia. His ever-constant anxiety, and most importantly-- his need for peace and quiet. A luxury he's never really had, between his wretched childhood in Georgia and handling the after effects of that, his unappreciated work at the university, and the repeated beatings from the bat himself. And for the most part, the crickets, the cicadas, and the other wildlife that happened to stumble upon his land.. It brought a strange sense of peace, a gentle hush to the ever-obsessive voice that compelled him to bring upon the mind-numbing fear he's always felt, unto others. Though that voice will never be fully silenced, it's still far quieter than before. Whether that was due to his chronic insomnia, or him getting up there in age, or both- It pestered him far less regardless.

Snapping himself out of his drawn-out thoughts, he gets up, wincing slightly at the pop and crack of his hips and knees as he shuffles into the kitchen, making his way to the fridge, Ichabod sensed his movement almost instantly, cawing towards her papa, her wings lightly flapping. To which, Jonathan pauses to unlock her cage, and gently bring her onto his shoulder before resuming his quest for a late night snack.

He settled for some cereal, having absolutely no will to cook anything up, yet still wanting to have something to occupy his rumbling belly. He makes it, then sits down with a grunt and a sigh, the old wood of the dining chair creaking ever so softly beneath his weight.

He knew sleep would not come, at least not for a long while- yet, he would take in this moment of sweet simplicity, in his own home. With his beloved pet crow nestled against his head, and the gentle hum of electricity within the home paired with the cicadas outside.

Maybe tonight isn't so rough after all.

Scout:

He PROUDLY bumps any and all songs from Chappell Roan, does he understand she is a lesbian, and these are her romantic experiences as a lesbian woman? No, but that isn't stemming from homophobia, he is just a bit stupid. Regardless, he LOVES her music.

But while he happily dabbles in pop music, and of course disco, he also grew up on hip-hop and rap. Both genres are near and dear to his heart. I think he'd be really big on artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Doechii, and Tyler, the creator. And that's just to name a few! he has very varied taste.

And obviously Tom Jones, he will never shut up about Tom Jones.

Soldier:

The national anthem. Only that.

Somewhat joking! outside of just purely that on a maddening loop, he likes older music. But in more of a fallout video game soundtrack kind of way. He just enjoys the way the audio sounds, how it's not all that clear compared to more modern music, it just tickles his brain. It also just reminds him of a time he can't exactly recall, his past is very fuzzy for him, and maybe some of that is for the best.

No particular artists or bands for him, all that matters is if he thinks it sounds good. Songs such as easy living by Billie Holiday, Orange colored sky by Nat King Cole, so on, and so on.

Spy:

Smooth jazz! he has an unbelievable amount of vinyls in his smoking room, a nice, mahogany shelf, perfectly organized by alphabet, and not a speck of dust to be seen.

He is very particular towards Sade, Grover Washington.Jr, and Kenny G. He just enjoys a beautiful voice, ones that can soothe and silence his constantly calculating brain. And this particular genre always seems to do the trick for him.

Spy has never considered himself much of a collector, trinkets to him are simply just clutter, he needs his space organized- free of such frivolous things. Yet his weak spot there is of course the prior mentioned vinyls, and he even has a few autographed items from his favorites! though, those are kept in a very, very secret area away from grubby hands and prying eyes (primarily scout's)

Demo man:

He honestly loves a bit of everything; he's never been stuck on one particular genre, and he likes to sample a bit of everything. If he likes something? He listens to it; if he doesn't, he just moves on.

But I think if he had to choose anything, it'd be classical or really just any purely instrumental stuff. His mom used to play that sort of thing a lot when he was a kid, so it's a source of comfort and familiarity for him.

He finds it especially helpful on tougher mental days, when the memories of the past are too harsh or unkind.

Sniper:

Actually, wayyyy more of a podcast or video essay kind of guy. Especially when it comes to long drives or when he's up in his nest. He is by no means a socialite and prefers to have his own space and not have to interact with anyone- but he still enjoys hearing and learning from others in a way that does not completely crush his very limited social battery.

BUT he enjoys a bit of punk, and alternative music from time to time. Bands such as Nirvana, Green day, Arctic Monkeys, and The white stripes are a few of his favorites.

But he does have to be in a particular mood for music, despite his enjoyment of the prior mentioned bands.

Engineer:

He, unsurprisingly, enjoys country music. However, he has a hard cut-off for a lot of the super-modern stuff. None of that dumb shit made by the rich to profit off the poor.

Artists he often listens to are typically Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Linda Martell, and Darius Rucker. But he also enjoys a bit of Reba McEntire.

But of course he enjoys many other genres, such as blues. One of his absolute FAVORITE artists is B.B. King.

Medic:

Metal, he loves Metal. But frankly, just any alternative-sounding music really does it for him. Which, in and of itself, is very, very broad. But he prefers anything that is a bit more heavy-sounding.

Bands such as Rammstein, KMFDM, Ghost, and Black Sabbath are always in the rotation, amongst many other similar bands and artists. Especially if he's in the middle of surgery, it helps him focus.

You won't catch his ass at a show though, the close proximity to other sweaty, loud fans is far too overstimulating for his tastes.

They have an insane amount of figures of all their favorite characters, and has an unbelievable amount of songs uploaded onto their phone, which just play on loop in their room or in their earbuds whilst out in battle. Some of their particular favorites are world is mine, Rolling girl, and Viva Happy.

They also cosplay some of their favorites- such as Miku, ren, Teto and Kaito.

Heavy:

Kpop, this is by no means a bit, he eats that shit up. Along with classical or opera music- he has quite a range with his music taste!

Red Velvet, BTS, Twice, black pink, and so on. Popular bands, for good reason. But as for Opera, he is not set on any particular artist. He loves it all.

Yes he did watch Kpop demon hunters, yes he cried like an absolute baby during the parts you'd expect. He's a giant teddy bear to those who know him best, so it isn't much of a shocker.

Something I really loved in the new Superman:

When that building is falling down over the bridge, Superman is saving one woman in a car. Usually in superhero movies or TV procedurals with emergency services, if it’s a woman in a car she also has a child or a crying baby to “raise the stakes” and make you care. But for this Superman, and in the context of this movie, it’s enough to just be a woman alone in a shitty car that won’t start right. She doesn’t need to be a mother for the stakes to be high enough that Superman uses his body to stop an entire skyscraper.

It was small, but it felt really powerful to me the moment I saw it.

It's so important to me that Jonathan is so soft in the Superman movie. Jonathan is there asking Lois with worried eyes if their boy is going to be okay. Jonathan is there tearily telling Clark he's proud of him. Jonathan is there recognizing how upset Clark is and coaxing him to talk about it. Jonathan loudly loves his son. There is no guessing game, no question, no room for uncertainty.

And Clark reflects that every day as Superman.

Normally he already puts in quite the large amount of effort into your relationship, there is no shortage of gifts, praise, and love being given. He doesn’t mess around when it comes to his boyfriend, it’s quite a known fact amongst the team.

However if you’ve had a rough day? that only increases ten fold, like he’s going to be pulling out all the stops as a result. He just refuses to have a sad partner on his hands, especially if there is something he can do about it.

He knows you probably don’t want to do anything big, or anything that really requires a whole ton of socialization with others, so he gets the bed all cozy, warms up your favorite pair of pajamas for you, and insists you lay down, relax— and let him pamper you.

Hungry? he’ll make you whatever you like! Soup? steak? a bowl of cereal? you name it. He’s a bit of a stickler when it comes to not eating in the bed, as the bedding is as expensive as you’d believe. But for you? he’s willing to make that sacrifice.

He’ll happily join you and cuddle up, knowing his presence is quite key in your comfort. He’ll happily listen as you rant on about your day, offering nothing but his ears.

But if you’d much rather forget the whole day altogether, he won’t force you to talk— He absolutely values and respects your emotions, and knows some things just don’t need to be relived.

His darling man, his handsome rogue, his Beau— should never, ever suffer in his professional opinion. The rest of the night will be dedicated to spoiling you.

And don’t think this will just be limited to one night, he will ensure nothing gets in the way of your refreshed mood— regardless of if that involves violence, or not.

I Just Like the Attention

There was that artist thing going around Tumblr where folks were redrawing this panel:

I had been asked if I was going to partake (because I've been known to voice Riddler from time to time) but it's not easy/fun just doing one like without any build up, so I took the comic, edited it down to a monologue, and here it is.

Riddler general relationship HCS

He’s very picky with the people he keeps close to him— granted that is a blend of overinflated ego, general distrust of others, and so on. In a sense he’s sort of like a cat, he needs his own time and space to warm up to people, and even then there’s no guarantee he’ll show all his true colors.

But you, my friend, are truly something unique— He just can never seem to get bored of you, both with your enchanting appearance, but mainly with the content of your character.

Edward appreciates those who can actually provide substance in a conversation rather than mindless babble, small talk, or mere niceties. And you provide it with such a graceful ease, he considers it almost impressive! And that right there is quite a compliment coming from him.

I don’t think he has any particular taste in physical appearance, regardless of physical body type, hair color— whatever, sure, he thinks colorful hair is pretty, or finds himself paying more attention to more unique fashion. But that doesn’t mean he has a set taste, truly, it’s the mind he’s after.. well, and personality. He wouldn’t want to date a wet blanket, after all.

Edward enjoys a puzzle, he doesn’t want someone who’s easy to configure, someone who’s trying to make themselves easily digestible— he likes complication, a mental challenge. He loves the eccentric, someone he can pick the brain of at any time of day. And that’s exactly what you are to him, his puzzle.

He, quite obviously, has a habit to peacock not only his intelligence, but his drama, his flair, his fashion— everything! he finds himself to be superior to most in every single one of those senses. Yet, that ego only (somehow) grows bigger when you pay him compliments based on those things. Mention how good his hair looks, how expensive his suit must be, and by god tell him how complicated yet impressive his plans are— he will melt almost immediately.

Dates with him are nothing but eccentric— he buys out (Though mainly threatens the owners’ of said businesses.) entire movie theaters and restaurants just for you both. Why would he want other people there to spoil his time with his darling? He wants you to feel special, to show you how good things are when you’re by his side. You’re always promised an expensive dinner, incredible shopping trips, and so much more— though, if you truly, deeply need just a relaxing date at home, he’ll do his best to tone it down.

Now lastly onto physical touch— he isn’t the biggest fan of it, and it’s less of him not wanting to touch you or be touched by you, but more so a sensory thing for him. He’s very particular about touch, always has been ever since he was young. But, rest assured it’s never anything personal with you. He’ll still happily abide if you need a cuddle or a kiss, but he has his own ways of showing his affection for you.

He runs extremely cold, which— is no surprise given he’s quite the lanky man, but he also just has such, such low iron in his system. Literally the most iron deficient man on earth, he subsists solely on mcdonald’s black coffee and the horrors.

So he’s often leeching off of your warmth, whether by putting his hands in your pockets, on your face or neck, or simply wrapping around you like a koala— you’re like his personal heater, even if you aren’t all that warm yourself.

This man loves cooking up a solid, southern cuisine. Now this can range from breakfast foods like the typical grits, eggs, pancakes, and so on. And by god he makes good grits. But his appetite is often incredibly low or just generally wonky. So when he does cook, it’s mainly for you. So, reap those rewards!

As most know, he is the least fashionable man on this planet. His clothes are often thrifted, and he’ll wear them til they disintegrate and he’s forced to buy a new pair of pants or shoes.. but with you? it doesn’t matter if you’re in a hoodie and jeans or your best going-out fit. He will admire you for hours, he just thinks you’re the peak of fashion no matter what you’re in. And his crow-like brain is just enamored with any accessories you adorn yourself with.

Though on the topic of his love languages— I briefly touched on how he leeches onto you for warmth, but he truly does enjoy physical affection in itself. Granted, it was not always that way. He used to avoid it like the plague in the very beginning of your relationship. It was a huge boundary for him, but over time (more like several months) he most certainly warmed up to the idea, and before you knew it he was all over you. Though he’s not much of the PDA type, and there are still some forms of touch that cause him to tense- He can still say with pure confidence that snuggling up with you on a chilly, Gotham night is his one of his favorite activities.

Another big love language of his is quality time— now granted, he’s not one for grand gestures in terms of romance so he doesn’t expect to be wined and dined (and frankly, you shouldn’t either.) so his ideal date with you is just on the couch, with books, perhaps a record playing, and fresh coffee. He just enjoys being in your presence, it’s the domesticity he’s internally craved his entire life— and now he has you to share that with! and granted, if you’re not in much of a reading mood or have your own activity in mind, he throughly enjoys parallel play as well.

And lastly on the topic of the ways he expresses his affection for you— he is actually quite the gift giver, again— not in any grandeur sense, he’s working on a college professors salary after all. But, he’ll often penguin pebble with his gifts. Such as bringing you any fallen feathers from his crows, or writing just small, sweet little notes in the morning before he leaves for work, preparing coffee for you before you wake up, and bringing you little trinkets that he think you’d enjoy. Of course, some of this delves into acts of service— which he also throughly enjoys, as it plays into that domestic affection factor for him.

He is fully aware that he is somewhat difficult in terms of relationships, platonic or romantic— but all he truly requires is patience, and understanding. He is not a perfect man, or a sane man, by any stretch. But, he can be as loyal as a hound if you extend him any non-manipulative love and kindness.
