a too-blue little pond for her paddling pleasure, cushioned in air conditioning, wreathed on one side by mountains and on the other by undead steppe.
hot water rolling down my back, i can think only of her. and of spanish moss hanging corpselike from branches that know no winter.
isn’t it funny, i think. and strange. the only other shell within a thousand miles of here is pulverized limestone, shocked and crunched. but somehow you ended up here.
maybe it was safest for you this way. maybe the red tide choked your home—sorry about that!—and you were whisked away by caring human hands. maybe they found you hurt and nursed you back to health here. or maybe it was just a cynical whim. who knows?
if they could have asked you, if they had bothered to try, perhaps you would have chosen this anyway. you won’t ever want for food or comfort, any ailment treated with care beyond your comprehension.
but it is no ocean. it is a too-blue little pond, just for you. and you learn every inch of it. at once startlingly alien and dreadfully familiar.
maybe that trade was worth it. maybe you’d make it again. but your heart will never sing at the sight of the sun again.
i might start slowly posting some old art on here. i have an art account but im not really sure what the point of me separating them on here is. i have like 10 followers.
fruit IS my favorite seasonal thing. the simple delight of cycling through different fruits throughout the year is our most ancient pleasure. god considered revoking adam and eve’s access to fruit to be the greatest punishment he could imagine. GOD considered this. take it from the big man: if you are not fruitmaxxing you are spending your days caged like a gerbil. liberate yourself and eat a peach or twenty this summer.
I hate to break it to you guys but vets, doctors, and other medical professionals are not automatically scientists and in fact have to work hard to actually be scientists
They are extremely well trained mechanics for the world’s most complicated machines. Not the same as a scientist.
For example: I know of several young earth creationist doctors
For example: many doctors refuse to follow the evidence we have about obesity, but continue to use their outdated ideas on the topic
For example: my vet always learns something new from me about the science around parrot behavior when I come in with my birds for check ups, and she actually does try to keep up
For example: premed training doesn’t require a scientific major
Saying “a doctor said X” or “a vet said Y” is pretty much meaningless unless said medical professional also does scientific work, which is never guaranteed.
