"How does that matter? If we lived in Korea, we'd be the same age, right? Isn't that how it works?" Besides, Charlotte has always acted older than him, or at least more mature than him at the very least. "I'm good. Hospitals are creepy. All of that white lighting would make me go insane," he comments. even if he's impulsive and rebellious, the only times Kyle had ever been stuck in hospitals were because of other people, and he knocked on wood he wouldn't land up in one of those uncomfortable beds next. He nods, eternally grateful for her even if he'd never say that out loud. "Right, you're getting dicked down again. My congratulations. Oh, I know," Kyle sits up as if he has a great idea. "I give you the whole stack, and you and the doc can read these together for your next date. You can even do it in bed, just... don't get any stuff on it, yeah?"
Tumblr media
"You're still a few months older, so the argument still stands," she says, smiling playfully in his direction. "Well, maybe it'll broaden your horizons. You never know, you might get interested in all of that and find your true calling." She's joking and it's obvious. She can't picture Kyle working in healthcare, although he has the brains for it, he just wouldn't survive a shift when he had the tendency to slack off more often than not. "Hm, I can work with two weeks." She pauses at his words, a slow smile curving up her lips and she shrugs. "I'm a very busy woman now." With Junho back in the picture, she no longer just spends her time between the hospital and alone at home!

"There aren't any nerves left to strike, unfortunately," Kyle says, rolling his eyes at Gabbie's expression. He didn't really care whatever her worldview or morals were, and if they were skewed in any way. He was just pointing out the obvious because it takes a hypocrite to know one. Kyle likes to say he doesn't like rich people, but she might just be one of the poorest friends or acquaintances, he's ever had. "Sure. When there aren't people dying, they like to gossip, what else can anyone do around here?" he adds with a shrug, not concerning himself with whatever people liked to do. It wasn't his fault everyone had a big and loud mouth because Kyle hardly cared for half of the shit talk anyway.
Tumblr media
"Did I strike a nerve?" She questions, a faint smile appearing on her face. Gabbie, who always seems to pick the wrong crowd for her thoughts, isn't the type to backtrack and apologize even when its the right thing to do. No, instead she keeps pushing until whatever piece of friendship is left to hang onto is completely gone. And what better time to do so than the moment a killer shows up. Less people to care about if they meet their end. "Wow, are those the whispers that go around town about me?" Her arms cross over her chest as she leans back, letting herself laugh. "It's a tough world, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. But since you're wondering — no, people I haven't fucked made the list too."

"I hope the main character of whatever you write isn't you. The readers probably wouldn't like the perspective of a frigid bitch," he says with a dry laugh, taking his card from the bartender. He knew he wasn't the only person who would take issue with some braindead chick moving to town to capitalize off what they'd lost. "With the way you get so defensive, I'd think you'd at least be a better listener. Or does that only apply when someone has something nice to say to you? You can say the same shit over and over. It doesn't make it sound any better." Kyle lets out, rolling his eyes. "Good luck with your writing, and the five other losers who will actually read it," he adds, picking himself off of his car and walking to the other side of the bar to someone he'd actually get along with.

"That joke will only work for a few more weeks, Char, get it all out of your system now." Soon they'd both be 31 and growing old. Even if Kyle was smart, he was also a slacker, and he hated having to read so much when none of it really mattered to him. Charlotte was much more balanced than him, at least in the book-smart ways. In other ways, they were probably equally both lost causes. "That's medical shit though, it's different," he retorts, all while evading her question, because, of course, he doesn't want to read any of her work. Unless it was meant to put him to sleep. "How's two weeks? You can think of it like we're back in school, a deadline or some shit," Kyle adds with a grin. "Unless you have better things to do, that is."
Tumblr media
"I think one of us has a faulty memory. You're growing old, Kyle," she jokes, scrunching her nose, as if Charlotte's birthday isn't soon. There was a long list of differences between her and Kyle and Mal; however, their friendship made sense despite these differences. Ever since they were kids, they were her true ride or die, through thick and thin, people she could blindly trust and didn't have to put on a mask or a brave face around. "What's the hobby? Reading documentation? I read enough of those at work already. Do you want to read my own stuff in exchange?" She smiles. It doesn't faze her when Kyle says the deadline was two months ago, and honestly, she can't blame him for dismissing things after everything he's been through. "Well, keep on bullshitting the inspector till I finish these."

"I don't care." It's the truth, because he really doesn't. It's exhausting, everything about Juniper is exhausting and not in any remotely interesting way. He doesn't care that she's poor and feels entitled to a handout, because he's been in her position and never wanted the same. "Because I used to beat people up when I was a kid," he replies honestly, shrugging his shoulders before his expression grows annoyed, and slightly angry. "You'll leave without me doing shit. Get the fuck out while I'm still being nice, June," he says, gesturing right towards the day. Kyle isn't in the mood to deal with any of this. "Nobody in this town takes you seriously or gives you the time of day because you act like a fuckin' kid. Get a grip."
Tumblr media
"Fuck you, Kyle - you don't know me." Is all June can manage to spit out - because Kyle speaks nothing but the truth, as much as she hates it. "Everyone wears a fucking - ankle monitor at some point in their life. Lindsay Lohan did it." Inside the gym - unexpectedly, June isn't attempting to throw around the weights and cause a massive scene, she's just stood a few feet away from the entrance, bouncing on the balls of her feet, like she's prepared to run again. "Why do the cops hate you? Is it because you've got a serial killer face?" Can't argue that the cops like her better - because even though they all know her by name, it's not like they're getting cute and cozy. They don't buy her presents for her stockings, even though June so graciously spends half of her paycheck ordering animal shit to their doorsteps every holiday. "If you can beat me on any of these fucking, machines - I'll go. I'll leave on my own fucking, accordance."

"Why wouldn't I get it? You're a writer, maybe you should know to not judge a book by its cover," Kyle says, finishing off what was left of his drink and calling over a bartender to close his tab. "Great, and I'd treat them all the same. You, and anyone else who tries to turn a profit or make a show out of what people have been through, are nothing but bottom feeders, lacking any real creativity in their simple-minded, moronic brains." Kyle let out a laugh, because for someone who stood tall on her high horse, she didn't seem all that smart. "Maybe you will. It would probably help you see that this isn't some fucking joke."

He didn't really get what was funny about it, but Kyle nodded anyway. "Right, yeah." Truthfully, he didn't care very much for fancy things or extravagant homes. He'd seen a lot of them as a kid, even if he'd always been an outsider. It never really impressed him as much, because they usually had as many problems as they had money. "It's fine, pretty much runs itself besides bookkeeping. There are some classes, yeah. Self-defense, yoga, pilates, I think I've seen a Zumba class once or twice."
Tumblr media
"It's funny because some of the homes are so old that sometimes they need to rewire the structures or reposition the plumbing as well, but the owners don't seem to worry about it." Issy said with a chuckle. The wealthy had no problem their money couldn't fix. "That's right." she said remembering that he was the owner of the gym. "You own the gym, right? How is that? Do you guys have special classes and trainings over there? Like zumba and spin."

"You don't look that young. So if at this age, you don't know what a sauna is, you can use the internet instead of bothering people with stupid questions." She was more of a bother than anything, rolling his eyes with every word. "I didn't ask. If that's all, have a nice day."

"How am I supposed to keep track of that? I haven't opened the app in forever," he says, rolling his eyes. He had better things to do, not to mention half of the people he followed anyway were probably long gone. Maybe if she was trying to convince someone else, she'd have better luck. But not only was Kyle a pessimist, but he also knew the girl in front of him well enough. "I'm not complaining, and we both know, you wouldn't want to hear it anyway," he lets out with a laugh, before rolling his eyes at her admittance, because it sounds much more realistic. That is until she continues to go on and he remembers that she is as dramatic as ever. "You have a trust fund," Kyle retorts dryly. He's pretty sure a few pictures at the local diner wouldn't break the bank. He's also very sure that Jieun couldn't even imagine what it was like to be of the lower-class. "Just give me the phone."
Tumblr media
"Don't gaslight me. I know you do 'cause I gave you a pity follow." But whether or not he deleted it, she wasn't sure. Hardly one to keep track of any socials aside from her own. "That's actually pretty rude," an her expression mocks "I do care. I came all the way over here willing to listen to you complain about your day, week, life." Though, as she thinks about it, Jieun wonders if it's actually worth it. Kyle was her friend and there's an understanding for why he's always so ... down. But this was a good day—like it was the first day in a while where she's actually woken up in a decent mood. Did she really want to ruin it by letting his negative energy cling onto her? It takes a few moments, but she finally concedes. "And okay.. fine. I did want you to take a picture of me," with a roll of her eyes, the brunette presses her back against the booth's seat. "Are you really not going to? This is my job, Kyle. How am I suppose to make a living if I don't have anything to post? You know what it's like to be poor, so it should be in your nature to want to help. That's not a lifestyle you should wish on anyone," she continued, saying just about anything if it means she doesn't have to drive all the way home to get the one thing she'd forgotten—her tripod.

"Thank you. I'm basically the full package, now you see why I was so popular," he boasts with a grin, even though Kyle knew that he was never seen as that growing up. For every positive thing he had, there was something equally negative to share that put his reputation at a solid neutral, at best. "Maybe this can be a new hobby for you," he suggested jokingly. "Sure, I do. It was two months ago," he responds. It's not really his fault, because he was grieving and getting drunk every day, which didn't leave time to go through paperwork when he'd finally gotten the guts to take over. "There was some inspector guy that came in two weeks ago trying to talk to me, but I'm a really good bullshitter."
Tumblr media
"Okay Mr. Smart Jock," she jokes, reaching for whatever's in her reach—a pen—and throwing it at him. It's true, Kyle is one of the smartest people she knows, it's just that he preferred to let his brain rest and chill on the daily. "There's a lot of reasons I didn't take over the family company, Ky, and this," she says, waving the documents around, "is one of them." Except she'll happily read through these documents, purely because it's for Kyle and Mal. "We'll see what it's about. I just skimmed through the titles. I'll summarize everything for you in a few days, don't worry. You don't have a deadline, right?"

Kyle's brows furrow, because the fact that the horrors aren't over isn't something he wants to talk about, let alone with Jaziel. He didn't like Mama Oh, remembering how she'd always picked on his flaws when he was younger. But she was still someone he'd known for far too many years. "We don't have to make small talk, dude," he mutters, keeping his hand hovering under the bar ready to lift it when need be. "I'm guessing you didn't know her well." Anyone who did wouldn't be all that shocked to learn that she had a target on her back.
Tumblr media
Nodding a thanks, Jaziel lead them towards the equipment picking up some weights to set on the bar. Satisfied with the weight, he clipped the ends to secure the bar in place and took his spot on the bench. "Alright." he tells him, fixing his powdered hands on the bar. "What's your take on that new murder?" Jaz asked before he began to lift, trying to fill the silence between the two.

"I don't care what you can and can't afford, June. With the amount of excuses you make, maybe your best bet is sticking with the car job and getting your exercise in through manual labor." She's like an annoying little fly that won't leave, or that can't be swatted away. Kyle grows more exasperated. "It's my gym, if I feel like banning you, I will. Your track record is shit, so that might as well be a good enough reason right there. Weren't you rocking a fuckin' ankle monitor or something?" Maybe her parole officer should've done him a favor and kept it restricted to her home. Watching her run off, he sighs again, rolling his eyes and walking back inside despite the untied shoelaces. "Get out, June. I'll call the cops, and even if they hate us both, they still like me better."
Tumblr media
"There you go again!" Her hands raise up in a tizzy; an exasperated, exaggerated sigh leaving her chest as if she's the one being bothered, "If I can't afford a fucking gym - I can't afford a hospital! Very classist, Kyle - for fucking shame." June 'tsks with a shake of her head. The list of reasons why she's banned barely register in her head - brows only furrowing at his reasoning, "What the fuck am I taking away? I'm not out here lifting machines out of the fucking - gym, I'm not taking weights or fucking, sweat soaked rags home with me." Her eyes flicker between him and the doors of the gym, contemplating pros and cons of what she's about to do before huffing out another sigh. "Fine - fucking, whatever." With one last glance - June crouches down and pulls loose the laces on Kyle's shoes before booking it towards the gym's doors.

"I don't know, they're both pretty fuckin' gross." He's pretending this entire thing isn't happening for a third time. He doesn't comment further on any of what Gabbie is saying, because even if he hadn't been on the best terms with the late Oh, Charlotte was his best friend. "Are all the exceptions just dudes you screw?" Kyle asks, rolling his eyes. At least he had an excuse, and had grown up with rich friends. He didn't go out of his way to head over to Stoughton Estates as an adult and be friendly.

"I don't know what's creepier cut up body parts or carved out organs." Gabbie made a face when she pictured both. "And this is why nobody should be thanking what's his name? Jake? But I guess you can call it some twisted type of karma if it's the second person who was supposedly helping that chick. Rich people disgust me." She turned to look at Kyle for a moment, her eyes narrowing. "Okay with a few exceptions."

"You're the one that said you come to bars to watch people and see how they experience real-life shit. The reactions you see are superficial. You don't know who they are beyond what's on their face, and you'll never know what's on their mind because you're an outsider looking in." Kyle found it a little baffling that she seemed so self-righteous about what she was doing. He'd been through enough to find it disrespectful for someone to come into a town where people had lost so much just so she could write some crappy YA novel. "Sounds one-dimensional," he lets out, rolling his eyes and taking a sip of his drink. "Do you get a kick out of it? Using whatever sick shit people go through for your own benefit?"

Kyle lets out a sigh because there are other things he could be doing right now, like reading through that pile of paperwork he'd been putting off. It was obvious she was just wasting his time. "No," he responds blankly, because if she didn't know what a sauna was, or was simply playing dumb, then that wasn't really his problem. "If you don't know what it is, it's not for you."

He'd seen Jaziel at the gym a few times, and while Kyle didn't really care for the guy, he wasn't going to make a fuss about something that didn't matter. Every time they'd spoken, a certain woman tended to come up, and he had no interest in having that happen again. So he remains cordial, nodding his head to the other's request. "Sure," he responds, making his way behind the bench press. "Let me know when you're ready."

Jaz has spent the last hour switching between the ropes, and the treadmill trying to clear out his head. Working out wore him out enough that he had no time to think about anything other than the ache and sleep. "Hey, bro." Jaziel said approaching Kyle after having had already looked around two or three times to make sure he had no other options. "Can you spot me?" he asked and motioned towards the bench press.

"That sounds cool. I guess there's still a few rich families around here who have maids and butlers and shit. That probably explains it," he added with a shrug, remembering as a kid how excessively lavish Charlotte's family home was, which felt pretty hard for anyone to beat. Kyle didn't know a thing about interior design, because up until a few years ago, he'd barely owned any furniture in his apartment, material belongings never meant much to him. "Uh, I guess. I usually just work out now. Weights and shit." That, and the person who he'd loved playing the game with was six feet under.

"Yeah, this big house was just purchased and the new owners want to turn one of the pantries into a hidden servant kitchen. Sounds a little too elegant, but who am I to judge." she said with a shrug as they turned to take a seat. She could honestly talk about her work all day long with the amount of crazy things clients requested. Things that would make sense anywhere else in the world, but not exactly in this small town. "Are you still playing basketball?" she asked, remembering that he used to really like it once upon a time.
