I just watched the first 4 episodes of Litchi Road and this show is absolutely gorgeous! Love all the bright colors and so many floral motifs!
Btw our ML is a poor botanist who is sent on an impossible mission to transport preserved fresh litchis from the south of China to the capital Chang'an.

Grammar: 以…为… - To consider…as...
Recently I was reading a piece called 《年轻一代,越来越重男轻女了》”(Among) The Young Generation, Men Increasingly Considered Superior To Women.” (重男轻女 is a set idiom for “valuing men & belittling women”) As you are probably aware, China has a significantly unbalanced ratio of men to women, but rather than this give women more bargaining power they are actually being married off even sooner & pressured towards having a family. Anyway it’s complicated; read that, read Leftover in China, then come back for some grammar!
以 (noun/adj) 为 (noun/adj) : To take (something) as (something)
开车的时候,应该以安全为主。 kāichē de shíhòu, yīnggāi yǐ ānquán wéi zhǔ. When driving, you should consider safety to be most important.
This is a classical construction; don’t try to logic it out too much & accept that it’s not really flexible (no 为…以…). 以___为主 is particularly useful for talking about priorities
现在他找男朋友, 以幽默感为主。 xiànzài tā zhǎo nán péngyǒu, yǐ yōumò gǎn wéi zhǔ. Right now he’s looking for a boyfriend, (for him) a sense of humor is most important.
Almost elegant really. Which brings us to the piece that is in the text:
…那就物以稀为贵! nà jiù wù yǐ xī wéi guì! well (people) take scarcity as valuable!
“物以稀为贵” is also an idiom but you see how it’s build now :) As a structure this isn’t aggressively formal, but it is more written than spoken. Happy Thursday hope you’re well!

The trailer for Blemish Flaw (棕眼之谜) just dropped and I cannot contain my excitement to see so many people who worked on Heroes (天行健) reunited for a new project!
The main leads are Qin Junjie (Men San Dao) and Maggie Huang (Gege) but some supporting actors namely Jinna Fu (Ms Huo) and Pang Han Chen (Wang Jialuo) are also back.
Tumblr media
It's so funny to see so many characters from Heroes reincarnated in the modern setting:
Men San Dao is still a detective but this time he's trying to find his fiancée who has disappeared without a trace.
Tumblr media
Wu Lanshan (Gege) is married to an abusive husband whom MSD suspects to be the murderer of his missing fiancee.. and even in this timeline these two cannot help falling in love with each other!
Tumblr media
And we got to see Wang Jialuo who now works as a policeman (somehow i'm not surprised at all!), pursuit of justice is in his blood!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The villain husband is played by Wang Duo (you might know him from a League of Nobleman). He's a ceramic artist and it seems that his modus operandi is to burn his victims in his kiln :D
Tumblr media
The direct translation of the title 棕眼之谜 is "the Mystery of a brown eye" where the "brown eye" stands for dark spots that can be found in ceramics (i.e. porcelain) if they are contaminated with iron. Hmm i am curious to see how it'll pan out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The aesthetics in this drama are quite strong, every shot shown in the trailer has a nice lighting and creative environment.
Tumblr media
**MSD is totally not obsessing over his princess and how the heck could he take this photo for his crime board**
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know nothing about the original novel but I have absolute faith in the screenwriter (白骢) and the director (卫立洲) as they have already proved they can tell compelling original stories, can't wait!!

Wei Li Si (威力斯) who plays Getai, a court official sent by Cun Qing to search for the treasure with Men San Dao, is in real life a professional dancer from Inner Mongolia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He mainly chooses projects where his background might come in handy for fighting or action scenes.
Please just watch this bts and see for yourself:
So this video blew my mind and led me down a rabbit hole of watching some of his other performances on youtube.
Getai was low-key my favorite side-character on the show and it's just mind-blowing that this actor is such a talented person in real life.
(and yes he's also ripped)

Here is a fanart of Getai looking at Muqing, probably the farewell scene between them we've never got to see :(

Whenever Men San Dao is wearing plain clothes, my heart just feels happy... that said, his official uniform with a red guanmao (清代官帽) is also very nice :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is a cool fanart i found on weibo, i need more of thiss ^^
Tumblr media
I adore this outfit, it's both somber and majestic, Muqing knew he would meet Gege so he has to rise to the occasion :)
~ his sartorial choices are next level ~

And after going through all the trouble of dressing up, he ended up looking ridiculous covered in confetti :)

I was screaming at my screen when Lin Anjing appeared in the background of the Coffee shop scene in episode 5.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm absolutely in love with 天行健 for its attention to details and cinematography because it brings me so much joy to piece all these clues together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a rare drama that takes the audience seriously and rewards viewers with huge payoffs. The reveal in episode 8 was really well done and now I'm much more interested in the characters of Wang Jialuo and Lin Anjing. There are so many players making different moves and having hidden agendas in this story that this alone makes for a fascinating watch.

I'm still obsessing over Tender Light and just rewatched first episodes. There are so many details I missed on my first watch-through!
Tumblr media
In episode 2 Lin Fanglu sees this photo in ZL's room and wonders why he smiles so brightly. His clothes here look very similar to those he wore on the day he took Nanya to the forest. It must be Nanya who took this photo!!
Tumblr media
There are so many cool moments like this in early episodes, I hope more people will rewatch this drama at some point because the ending doesn't make it less of a masterpiece :))

To my understanding, there are two cuts of Tender Light: Youku and CCTV.
The CCTV ending is slightly more hopeful because the drama closes on the shot of Nanya in the field suggesting ZL and NY will reunite very soon (btw, their sentences also are much shorter 2 years for NY and 10months for ZL)

p/s my posts don't appear anymore under the tags and i cannot comment under other posts, it might be that my acc was shadowbanned for some reason, why tumblr is so annoying -_-

YES, I'm delusional and I won't accept last 30 minutes of the ending.
I was screaming at the screen for showing me Qingli and Lin Fanglu's scenes and glossing over Nanya and Zhou Luo's ending.
On rewatches I'll just skip scenes after time jump but still we were so so close to a happy ending.
For now I'll just cry in my corner watching these behind-the-scenes and fantasizing about their future in Beijing.
Why the heck would they delete such a lovely scene from episode 26? 😭

The scene where Nanya after being released goes to her father's old house to see her stepmother was so bloody satisfying.
Tumblr media
I was almost sure Nanya would choke her with a pillow or something.
Tumblr media
Omg I love so much the way it's been shot, how Nanya steps into darkness.
Tumblr media
And then leaves with head held high after getting some retribution for all the crap this woman and her son have done. And we even got to hear her scream, yikes!
Tumblr media
What I find interesting is how this scene is juxtaposed with the one where Zhou Lou overhears two jerks in the internet cafe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again the violence isn't shown on screen but just after that we get the confirmation he did beat the shit out them.
Tumblr media
It's not only his way to vent out his frustration from the train accident but also it's him trying to preserve Nanya's reputation and dignity.

Nan Ya and Zhou Lou are such a power couple together :3 I absolutely love how perfectly these two scenes mirror each other. At first they both gather their thoughts with their eyes closed, giving the viewer the impression that they've been cornered by Lin Fanglu.
Tumblr media
And then they open their eyes and push back.
Tumblr media
Also both scenes take place in semi-darkness, with both characters having half of their face obscured by shadows.
Tumblr media
It's as though, while their eyes were closed, they yearned for each other or recalled some words they exchanged previously. There's a profound sense of unspoken understanding between them, as if they're perfectly synchronized, to the point where even their reactions appear remarkably similar.
