“But all chemicals are bad!” says the woman on the internet who obviously doesn’t understand what chemicals are.
“Just use vinegar, baking soda, water, and essential oils to make cleaning products without any chemicals!” says the blogger that thinks Acetic acid, Sodium bicarbonate, and Lavandula Angustifolia are scary chemicals.
“This prepared food/commercial product is full of things I can’t even pronounce, I make my own with natural ingredients!” says the person who doesn’t understand how scientific plant names or INCII ingredient listings work. And who probably couldn’t pronounce the name of their now-favorite athlete or actor the first time they read it either.
“I choose to live chemical free!” says the man with blood, tears, sweat, hormones, adrenaline, serotonin, saliva, stomach acid, (and myriad other chemicals) still in his body.
- Familiarity doesn’t make chemicals into not chemicals.
- Unfamiliar doesn’t mean bad.
- Pronounceability is not safety.

"If you use em dash in your works, it makes them look AI generated. No real human uses em dash."
Imaging thinking actual human writers are Not Real because they use... professional writing in their works.
Imagine thinking millions of people who have been using em dash way before AI becomes a thing are all robots.

To the people complaining heavily about Joey's Jaskier outfit in the set pic:
If you hate it so much, then stop watching the Witcher and leave us fans alone.
It hasn't even been a day and people are basically being bullies just cause they don't like a costume decision. Kindly, fuck off. You are no better than the dude-bro's complaining about the show.

Reading with chronic pain: tips from a book-loving spoonie
I have loved reading books since I was small (although it took me some time to get a hang of it with my dyslexia).
Over the years I spent many happy hours in a book.
But now I do find it tricky – especially with brain fog, RSI in both wrists (making it tricky to hold up big books), and migraines. So here are a few ways I have found that let me still enjoy reading. I hope they can help you too!
Tumblr media
TIP 1 - Read digitally. This may or may not work for you and your circumstances – but reading digitally allows me to enjoy larger books which would otherwise hurt my wrists due to their weight.
TIP 2 - Change the font and size. As I’ve gotten older (she says, dramatically, at 30) I’ve found that reading is giving me more headaches. One thing that helps me is increasing the font size and switching to a dyslexia friendly font. This is helping a bit (although some apps don’t have great font options). If you use Libby though I would recommend the “open dyslexia” font – I have found that this is easing my eyestrain and allowing me to read for longer.
Tumblr media
TIP 3 - Listen to audiobooks. Again, this might not work for you – I know I can struggle to focus on them, especially when my pain is bad. But they are a great option for when I am recovering from a migraine. When I want to listen on a normal day (minus the migraine) I find that keeping my hands busy with something simple, like colouring or knitting, actually helps me focus and follow along better.
TIP 4 - Read manga or graphic novels. I find these a lot easier on my eyes because there is little text and a lot of the story told through the artwork.
I hope these give you some ideas on how to enjoy reading even with chronic pain. I’d love to hear your tips for reading with chronic pain – what sort of things work best for you?
Sending spoonie hugs!

president zelenskyy is a stronger man than me because if two ignorant and deluded men like trump and vance started demanding i say please and thank you and calling me disrespectful like im a naughty child instead of a very traumatised and frustrated man trying to save his country from putin id have put them both in the ground with a single fucking punch

I’m thinking the endurance of the Sentinel/Guide AU trope in fanfic has less to do with the quality of the original and more to do with answering the age-old question;
“WHAT IF my hyperactive senses made me a super-hero with an adorkable lifemate to help me manage them, instead of a socially awkward neurodivergent with chronic overload pain issues?”

I don't know if this will find the people it needs to, but survive. Find your sparks of joy and hold them tight. If nothing else, let spite and defiance keep you going. You are stronger than you know. I love you.

I’m so proud of people living with chronic health conditions. That shit is HARD. Idk who needs to hear this, but if no one else has said it: I’m proud of you. You’re sticking it out through so much pain and grief. That’s no small feat.
Every small thing you do for yourself health adds up. The grief is heavy and it comes from a place of love. The grief knows the pain is wronging you.
I’m proud of you. I hope on the good days you can be proud of yourself.
Keep going.

I have the same issue! But other meditations (zen, etc.) are about calming thought and ignoring the physical.
You might be looking for something more like this. It’s a simple “clear mind” meditation:
It’s actually pretty hard to think nothing (I’ve seen it compared to digging a hole in a pail of water!)
With practice I can manage a few minutes, not the 10 to 30 recommend, but even doing it badly leaves me feeling less weighed down by everything.
Help with pain? Not for everybody. For me a 60-second vacation is better than marinating in the ouch.
Body awareness is absolute shit for chronic illness. “Become aware of your body. Pay attention to how your body feels” great now I’m noticing the bone aching soreness that is permeating my entire body, thanks for that. My mind was automatically filtering that out for my but I sure am aware of it now!
I need like the opposite. I need “leave your body entirely and forget it exists” meditation.

To keep track of Jaskier, Geralt and Yennefer use a location spell on him.
Instead of "Find My Phone"
It's "Find My Bard."
