I feel this on so many levels. Back in the early 2000's I had a pretty active website where I put free graphics from popular anime and manga. I made layouts for Gaia, Neopets, Aywas, and anything else that allowed it. I made free website templates, icons, wallpapers. One of my favorite websites was just dedicated to anime wallpapers and it was a community that helped each other grow. My website was linked to other websites that all provided that same things. We were a community, until we weren't.
All those websites except a few are dead. All the big popular sites don't allow for the customization we were use to so all the graphics we made and worked so hard on were useless now. Then came the copyright issues and a lot of us just gave up. What made us happy no longer did and we were forced to convert. That wallpaper site Ioved shut down completely and now it is just a figment of my imagination it seems.
I want to go back to those old days. I want the customization back. I want the feeling that I am a unique individual back. I want to feel like my hobbies and all the time and effort I put into everything actually meant something and I can still use them to make people happy.
I spent ten years building up a following on Tumblr. I had 30k+ followers, great engagement, it helped my career thrive like nothing else. I could quit my day job and live off the fan base I’d accrued.
Then, their policies changed. Half my work was no longer allowed. People left the site in droves. I left too, for awhile. I came back to a ghost town. I still have 25k followers, but I don’t think more than 10% are active anymore. I’m followed by ghosts. Same with DeviantArt, although I was never quite as big there, and I’ve been gone so much longer.
This disallowed half of my work was never allowed on Facebook in the first place, or Instagram, but their algorithms are such that my stuff rarely makes it to anyone’s feeds, and if I post a link to where people could actually pay me for my content, its hidden unless I pay for it. Patreon swept my work away to a dark corner where no one could see it unless I personally guided them there. Twitch is so strict you can’t even show bare feet. The death of Google Reader means nobody follows RSS feeds anymore, so I can’t direct people to my own site.
So there’s Twitter I guess, where I can post whatever I want, but again, algorithms. But more than that, I don’t have the energy to build up a following once again on a site I don’t own that can delete my career on a whim. The thought of spending time jumping around through hoops for attention just to have it taken away again has stripped any motivation I had to try.
The internet has been gentrified. All the small cute houses and mom & pop shops have been shut down and replaced by big corporations that control everything. I’ve been making webcomics for twenty years, and at the start, the internet was a beautiful wild place. Everyone had a home page. It was like having a house and people came to visit you and you would visit other people in their houses. Now, we don’t visit each other in personal spaces anymore. It’s like we have to visit each other in the aisles of a megamart. Everything is clean and sanitized and the weirdos who made the internet what it was are no longer welcome. No space for freaks anymore.
People still ask me for advice on how to break into comics, and I don’t have any wisdom because I don’t recognize the internet anymore. I don’t feel comfortable working within its boundaries which seems to be getting smaller and smaller and smaller. None of the tools I used when I started exist anymore. They’ve been replaced by things I don’t know how to use. I don’t think I could break into comics today. 2002 had so few barriers compared to now. You might have started on Keenspace, but you could reach a point where you could break away to your own site and people would go to it. Now, you start on Webtoon or Patreon and I guess you just stay there? It feels so much like owning a hardware store for years and then having to go work as a cashier at the Home Depot that put you out of business. I’m looking at my career trajectory and it all points to being a Wal-Mart greeter with uncontrolled arthritis.
I don’t want to make “content,” I want to make comics, I want to make art, and I want to do it in a space that is mine. I’m not sure there’s a place for that anymore.

Her sister has set up a GoFundMe site for her. The link is at the very bottom of this post. Please share this information.

Design Notes: I took Marvel!Sigyn’s silhouette just like with P5!Loki whose silhouette is quite similar to Marvel!Loki. Design-wise, I made Sigvina’s helmet cover her head to signify her incorruptible nature and to protect her eyes from the snail parasite Loki has /laugh. Though incorruptible in mind and heart, her hands and legs aren’t immune to getting dirty, especially with the devotion to catch venom all day. Her key color is whites and blues to contrast Loki’s design of blacks and reds, but there has to be some hints to her design that still associates her to him. The basin/ bowl with the venom has to be present because it’s central to her story.
Realistically this conversation can only happen in P5!Royal territory.
Shoutout to the LoGyn fandom for keeping the olde ship afloat.

we are already living in the cyberpunk future and i know this because within a span of 3 days we went from this tweet:
Tumblr media
to thousands of people making phony images and replying to them with their passionate desire to have them as a tshirt to overload the bots with nonsense and junk and send out warnings to shoppers like this:
Tumblr media
and now we even have people replying to pictures of baby yoda with “i want this on a tshirt” knowing how ravenous disney is being with copyright in hopes to get the stores taken down altogether
i dont know what it is about stuff like this and the whole turn mei into a symbol of hk protesters thing but, its really reassuring for some reason

not to be my grandma but when i say social media is actually the devil i mean it and i find it so sad that there are preteen girls or young teenage girls out there who feel the need to wear a full face of makeup and clothes that typically older girls wear because older teenage girls and young women make up most of their media consumption and shape their beauty ideals and make them forget that they're children. and the worst part is if you point this out and propose that maybe there's something wrong with wearing a full face of makeup and posting thirst traps when you're thirteen those young girls get so defensive and offended as if you criticize them personally, like i know you feel the need to do this and it's all you see, but it's literally not normal.......the women around you who point it out are not "jealous because your eyeliner wing is sharper than theirs" they're worried and scared for you as a child who is very obviously losing their childhood and being convinced to think that you need to grow up and go from 12 to 17 because your media consumption consists solely of older teenagers

DURING AN OPEN commission meeting Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously to enforce laws around the Right to Repair, thereby ensuring that US consumers will be able to repair their own electronic and automotive devices.
The FTC’s endorsement of the rules is not a surprise outcome; the issue of Right to Repair has been a remarkably bipartisan one, and the FTC itself issued a lengthy report in May that blasted manufacturers for restricting repairs. But the 5 to 0 vote signals the commission’s commitment to enforce both federal antitrust laws and a key law around consumer warranties—the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act—when it comes to personal device repairs.
The vote, which was led by new FTC chair and known tech critic Lina Khan, also comes 12 days after President Joe Biden signed a broad executive order aimed at promoting competition in the US economy. The order addressed a wide range of industries, from banks to airlines to tech companies. But a portion of it encouraged the FTC, which operates as an independent agency, to create new rules that would prevent companies from restricting repair options for consumers.

Hi , I realize this is a long shot but a long shot is better than not trying at all. I will keep it short. Recently a friend of mine, Layla 29 y/o had brain surgery to remove a tumour, she is currently recovering from said brain surgery. She received her pathology results about a week ago. She has cancer.
Tumblr media
The tumour is an Anaplastic Astrocytoma, a Grade 3 Malignant Tumor. This rare malignant brain tumor affects 2% of brain tumor diagnoses and are difficult to fully extract through brain surgery. In simple terms, the tumour is not treatable, it will continue to grow and it will end her life. The average life span with this tumour is about 5 years.
Tumblr media
Layla will be undergoing radiation and chemotherapy to extend her life as much as they can, but they will not perform surgery again and the cancer cannot be cured. Which brings me to the point of this post...
Layla cannot work for the next year and will need financial support. A GoFundMe of $18,000 has been created . This seems like a large amount of money (and it is) but She will need enough to survive, and we believe that she then needs enough to live the rest of her days as fully as possible.
Tumblr media
So, please share or donate (if you can, anything helps :) ) so that Layla can live the rest of her short life as best as she possibly can without having to worry. Her full story is on her GoFundMe page below.

Apple propaganda notwithstanding, the reason tower PCs are big isn’t because they’re outdated. The reason tower PCs are so bulky is because they’re designed to be user serviceable. The case has lots of open space so your big, meaty hands can easily access all of the components, and everything is secured with friction-fit tabs and standard machine screws to minimise the need for specialised tools. A properly laid out tower PC is fully serviceable with a single Phillips-head screwdriver and no greater manual skill than your average Lego playset – heck, for some of the more modern case layouts you don’t even need the screwdriver, unless you’re performing major surgery like a full motherboard replacement.
Like, think about who benefits from convincing you that a fully modular computing device that can be serviced and repaired with your bare hands and minimal technical skill is unfashionable.
