wedding cake tasting (lee felix)
“Does somebody wanna be fake engaged to me for like two hours to try free wedding cake samples?”
Your goal was simple. Open Tinder, write your bio, and wait. Truth to be told, you did not expect any answers. Maybe some people would make fun of you, if anyone wanted to match with you in the first place. You did not expect much out of it, but would it hurt to try?
After hearing your best friend talk about her wedding planning all day, you were curious. She had already picked a location, the dress she had her eyes on was absolutely gorgeous, and now she was simultaneously looking for flowers to decorate and the wedding cake. The latter included cake tasting, which she did today. She kept talking about how tasty the cake samples were, how brilliant, showstopping, phenomenal, all thanks to the owner of the bakery. She and her fiance both had a hard time choosing the cake flavour for their wedding, as she told you on the phone just now.
“This guy, he’s god-sent. He’s the owner of the bakery, it’s about thirty minutes away from where you live. His cakes are so, so good, we couldn’t believe that he made all of them himself,” she sighed and you could hear her jump on her bed, “He has his staff working with him, and they do sell other pastries, duh, but he is the one who works on all wedding cakes all by himself. It’s his thing, he said. He wants nothing but the best for his customers. Isn’t that the cutest thing you have ever heard?”
You smiled and agreed, “He sounds amazing.”
“He IS,” your friend gushed, “He made all the samples all by himself today. Yesterday night and this morning, he said, so it would be all fresh. Just like it would be at the wedding. It’s his thing, even the staff was so heartwarming and kept congratulating us on our engagement. I think I would marry Chef Lee if I weren’t engaged already.”
“You what?” You heard her finance gasp in the background, “You have to fight me for his hand first.”
You laughed, “You didn’t happen to take any samples home?”
“We didn’t, I’m sorry,” your best friend sighed, “I don’t think that we will go back before the wedding. I had so much going on, I really wish I had thought of it.”
“It’s all good,” you interrupted her, “I’ll just bring some pastries or a croissant from the bakery next time I come over.”
Your friend gasped, “Is that a promise?”
“Absolutely. If I get the first bite at your wedding,” you teased laughing.
“Hm,” your friend pretended to think about it, “what if I give you the address for the bakery and you can try everything yourself?”
You paused for a second, “the wedding cake samples?”
“Oh no, he only makes them for engaged couples,” she explained, “but the regular stuff is really good too. I’ll send you the location.”
The bakery was not that far away from where you lived, maybe a twenty minute walk away. You could easily drive over for a bite.
“Thank you. I shall bring the goods next time I come over,” You said dramatically, knowing that your phone call had to be cut short today. She and her fiance would go look for flower arrangements tomorrow and you did not want to keep them up longer than you had to. On cue your friend started yawning.
“Would you be upset at me if I went to sleep right now?” she asked ashamedly. You shook your head, knowing that she could not see it.
“Of course not. Text you tomorrow?”
She made a kissing sound into the phone, “You’re the best. Talk to you tomorrow!”
The familiar sound let you know that she hung up. Sighing, you threw your phone on the desk in front of you and started tapping your fingers on your phone case. You would not totally be against the idea of going to the bakery in a few days, since it was your day off anyway. The way your friend talked about the pastries made your stomach growl in anticipation. Deep in thought, you started to rub it appreciatively.
“I know, this really makes me want to try the samples. I wonder why he won’t just sell the cakes he makes if they’re so good,” you told your stomach and it grumbled again.
Dejectedly, you turned your phone around just as a new notification popped up.
You have a new match!
Oh. It was from the dating app you downloaded a few days ago. After weeks of refusing to download the app, your friend finally managed to talk you into it the last time you visited her. Allegedly, she just wanted you to find a date to her wedding, she had to make sure you would not swipe right on complete idiots, but you never got around to actually text any of the people back.
Thinking about everything your friend had said, you sat up straighter. An idea popped into your mind; what if you just looked for a date on your dating app to go taste wedding cake samples with you? It was a spur of the moment idea, but you still opened the app and went straight to your profile. Obviously, it would most likely be awkward to introduce your idea to anyone you had a match with already. You did not feel ready for rejection of any kind, so you decided to change your bio to match your idea.
“Does anyone want to try wedding cake samples with me? My friend is engaged and I am jealous of her wedding cake and her relationship.”
No. No one would match with you that way.
“Wedding cake samples. Thoughts?”
You cringed. Neither sounded like a good idea.
“Does somebody wanna be fake engaged to me for like two hours to try free wedding cake samples?”
Maybe your new bio was a bit pathetic, but it was exactly what you are looking for. You had not found anyone worth talking to on the app so far anyway, so this would definitely be a good conversation starter. If anyone texted you back, anyway.
You went back to the main page and started swiping. However, no one you saw so far actually had the vibes you needed to get your admittedly stupid plan in motion. Then again, what did you expect from a dating app?
You swiped on a few people who seemed fun enough, with no matches so far, before you put your phone back down. It was time you made yourself some dinner, anyway, if your growling stomach had anything to say. Discouraged from your unsuccessful fake-engagement-hunt, you got up and made yourself some dinner.
When you got back, you found out that a few people actually matched with you, and some even texted you in regards to your bio. One of the people stood out, however. It was someone named “Felix”. He seemed really… sweet.
“How much are the samples?” He had texted you first, and you clicked on his profile. The first picture was a selfie and he looked incredibly handsome in it. It was a simple one. Felix looked into the camera with a slight smile barely gracing his lips. He had black hair with a middle part, dark eyes, and full lips. It was mesmerising to look at him, but what really stood out to you were the freckles adorning his entire face. He was even wearing a dangling earring on the left side of his head and it made him even more attractive to you.
“Cute,” you mumbled and scrolled a bit down to read his bio. It made you snort.
Do you believe in love at first sight or do you want to swipe again?
“So that’s who we are working with,” you said to yourself and swiped back up again. Felix was cute, though, so you decided to give his profile another chance. You swiped again to look at the other pictures on his profile. The second one already felt like you found the right person. It was a picture of Felix in what seemed to be his own kitchen. He was in the process of kneading the dough when the picture was taken. It was sweet. His pretty freckles were covered by the flour all over his face, just like his clothing was. You zoomed into the picture and snorted again. There were two handprints of flour right on his butt. The picture already made you intrigued to find out what Felix actually thought of your idea to get free cake samples out of the date you had yet to plan.
You swiped one last time to see the last picture, and oh. Oh.
The last picture was a selfie of Felix in bed surrounded by purple light. His face was half covered by his pillow. He put his hand on the back of his head and gazed into the camera seductively. He had one dangling earring on, and his freckles were just as present as in the pictures before. This time, however, his hair was blond and he seemed to be shirtless in this picture.
Felix seemed to be funny, if the second picture told you anything about him, and he was not hard on the eyes either. You looked at all of his pictures again before you went back to your chat with him.
“Not sure yet, but I will pay for it. Just looking for someone who wants to go with me.” It was honest. You were looking for someone to join you. The fact that Felix was insanely attractive was only a bonus.
Felix answered you right away, “I see. When are we going?”
You smiled at his message, “Would Friday work for you?”
“Absolutely. Just let me know when and where and I will be there!”
And with that, you guys started to talk to each other for the entire night. You went from messaging to video calling, since Felix claimed that he would love to see you to make sure he knows what his fiance looked like. You told Felix about the bakery and where you got your idea from. Thankfully, he did not judge you. He called you a genius even.
“No, I definitely would have done the same if I were you,” he said in a thick Australian accent and smiled widely, “Maybe I would have begged one of my friends to go, but using this as a first date idea? You’re so cool for that.”
You felt your face heat up at his words.
“Stoop,” you mumbled and pressed your face on your pillow, “I was afraid of the people who would text me about it. For all I know you could be a murderer.”
Felix grinned mischievously, “I can think of ways to make your heart stop.”
You jolted back up and stared right into the camera, “You did not just say that.”
“I’m sorry,” Felix blushed and giggled shyly, “Was that too soon? You’re just so cute, I had a hard time believing that you didn’t try to catfish me.”
It was your turn to get shy now.
“I wouldn’t,” you said, “I’m really only here for the wedding cakes.”
He smiled, “I can’t wait to try them, then.”
You were both quiet for a while, just staring at each other in silence.
“Can I ask you a question about your profile?” You asked all of a sudden. Felix nodded curiously, “Go ahead.”
“So, about that second picture. Do I have a baker myself with me on Friday?”
Felix grinned widely, “I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”
Talking to Felix was easy. It was like walking through a field of flowers on a sunny day while listening to your favourite songs, knowing that it would not rain all day. And that’s what Felix was, a sunshine. The sunlight in your days all the way up to Friday.
On Thursday the day before you talked to your best friend on the phone again. You did not tell her about your Felix just yet, because you wanted to wait and see where this would go. She did, however, ask you about the bakery again.
“Did you go yet? We confirmed the cake, by the way. I want to keep the flavour a surprise, but just know that you will fall in love as soon as you know how magical Chef Lee is.”
You smiled to yourself, “Not yet. I want to go tomorrow, though.”
“You will?” Your best friend perked up at your answer, “you need to get us something. Do you want to come over tomorrow?”
“I,” you started, thinking about your date with Felix, “I’ll text you about it tomorrow. I have a thing going on, I’m not sure yet if I will have the time.”
“Okay,” your friend said and you knew that she was pouting, “but you need to come over soon. I am going insane without you.”
Friday came and Felix came over to yours. As promised, he would pick you up and you would walk to the bakery together. It was a twenty minute walk and you would have all the time in the world to match your stories up again until your appointment started. You woke up early that day, took a quick shower, and decided on a simple yet chic outfit to go cake tasting. You did not want to look too shabby, but still make a good impression on the staff in case you decided to go back there again. It was a few minutes before your meeting time, you were putting on your shoes, when your bell rang. When you opened the door, you were greeted by Felix down on one knee.
“Y/N, will you fake-marry me for today?” He had a ring pop in his hands and looked at you with big, sparkling eyes. His freckles were so vibrant today and you felt your face heat up a little.
“Of course,” you gasped and folded your hands over your mouth, “Yes! I want to be fake-engaged!”
Felix laughed and got back up. You noticed that his eyes were all red and smiled a little. He was smaller than you expected him to be, but he was still the most gorgeous man you had ever laid your eyes on.
Felix put out his hand, “C’mon. Give me your hand.”
Hesitantly, you held your left hand towards him. He gently took it into his and slid the ring pop over your ring finger.
“There we go,” he whispered and softly stroke your hand with his thumb. Your heart did a little flip.
“Now we’re officially fake-engaged!”
You looked up at him, right into his eyes. They were so kind and you had a hard time looking away. Felix just smiled at you.
“Do we go?” He still had your hand in yours.
You nodded, “Yeah, I’m ready.”
He did not let go of your hand for the entirety of the walk. You both talked about your fake-engagement. Felix softly drew circles on the back of your hand and you did not mind one bit.
“I say that we met at college. I always wanted a college romance,” Felix muses and you laughed. “I hate thinking about college.”
“Fair enough.”
He smiled, “But I think you would love thinking about it if you met me there.”
“Ah!” You looked away, “That is absolutely not true.”
Felix laughed at your flustered state.
“Don’t worry, love. I’ll make sure that they won’t suspect anything.” His grip around your hand tightened a little, “and if they do, we’re just gonna tell them that you’re a dropout.”
You shook your head, “Unbelievable. I am the smartest person I know.”
“Ah! I knew that you don’t have any friends.”
Playfully, you hit his arm with your free hand, “Keep being mean to me and I will look for another fiance.”
Felix pouted, “I’m sorry. Don’t break up with me. I didn’t even get to try the cake yet.” He winked at you.
“You’re gross,” you joked, not minding his comments at all, “but we can do your college romance, if that’s what you want.”
“I will do whatever you want,” he answered honestly. You looked away and licked your lips.
“I think it would be fine. We just say that we have the same major. Nothing in detail. I doubt that anyone cares, anyway.”
He nodded, “Probably. I’m a music major, by the way.”
You looked at him. “Then I am, too.”
Felix was flirty, but it was nice. His hand fit into yours perfectly and it was so incredibly soft. He was funny, too. You already guessed when he was ready to do this with fake-engagement wedding cake tasting with you, but you quite underestimated how hilarious he actually was. During the week you have known him, you guys have talked to every day. One of his favourite activities was sending you memes he found on different social medias, and they always made you smile. Thinking about this, you ignored the fact that they were especially funny because of the guy who sent them to you.
You almost did not notice that you reached the bakery, you were both currently several arguments deep in a discussion about your favourite pizza toppings.
“You’re wrong,” you told him and pointed at the sign above the door, “and we’re here already. I win.”
Felix rolled his eyes and smiled, “Only because you’re cute.”
As it had done the entire day already, your face heated up again.
“Dumbass,” you jokingly mumbled and pulled him to the entrance. Your hand was still in his.
You opened the door and were greeted with a fantastic smell. Your best friend was right, the pastries already smelled delicious, and your mouth started watering at the thought of finally getting to try them.
You both walked towards the staff working behind the counter. It was a guy your age, who was about the same height as Felix. He had big eyes, soft cheeks, and a knowing glint in his eyes when he saw you guys walking up to him. Awkwardly, you let go of Felix’s hand.
“Hi, we’re here for the wedding cake tasting,” you introduced yourselves, “It’s for Y/N?”
The guy behind the counter hummed and nodded. He typed something into the computer. You took the chance and looked around. There were endless amounts of bread right behind him and it looked so delicious. The counter was filled with different pastries; you could spot croissants and strawberry cake; even freshly baked cookies who were still steaming were orderly placed behind the glass. You licked your lips and sighed quietly; everything looked so heavenly.
“Yes, here you are,” the guy interrupted your thoughts and you looked back at him, “Y/N. This way, please.”
The guy opened the door behind him first, “Seungmin? Can you go to the counter, please?”
“But I’m on my break,” came a muffled voice out of the room. The guy sighed.
“We have… customers,” he said sternly, hesitating a bit before the last part. You glanced at Felix. Did the worker know that you were only pretending? But Felix only looked at both guys amusedly.
“Fine,” the voice in the room did, in fact, not sound fine, “I’m coming out. Give me a second.”
Happily, the guy nodded and turned back around to face you again, “I’m sorry for him. I will show you the samples right now.”
You smiled at him and nodded, following him along with Felix right behind you. You could feel his hand ghosting over your lower back as he guided you through the bakery to a small sideroom. It was beautifully arranged for customers who wanted to sit down. Now, however, there were different cake samples on a single table. They were the ones you had chosen when you called the bakery the week before, you assumed.
“Woah,” you whispered and you heard Felix laugh quietly. His laugh was deep and sent a chill down your spine.
“Sit down, please,” the guy said and pointed to the chairs opposite of his, “I am Jisung, by the way. I’m here to assist you on your wedding cake journey today!”
“Oh, are you Chef Lee?” Jisung glanced at Felix at your question.
“I’m not, I apologise on his behalf,” he said carefully, “He is busy today. He usually would have done this, but I hope I can be just as helpful as him. We all know the procedure. If you have any concerns, I will gladly give you his phone number. He offered to call you, should you choose us for your wedding cake needs..”
He smiled at you and you nodded, “Thank you.”
You put your hand out to grab your chair, but Felix swiftly stood beside you and pulled it back for you.
“There you go, love,” he smiled cutely and waited for you to sit down. You did and he gently pushed the chair forward. You looked down and smiled, “thank you.”
Felix sat down beside you and put an arm around your chair, as if he had done it a thousand times before already. Jisung looked at you both.
“Here we have the samples,” he pointed at the different cupcakes in front of him, “Chef Lee has baked them all himself. They’re the different flavours that we offer. Here we have white vanilla bean, red velvet, and chocolate!”
The cupcakes looked mouthwatering, just like the pastries in the entrance did. Jisung pushed the platter with the white vanilla bean cupcake towards you. You pulled the plate towards you and Felix grabbed the fork. He got some of the cupcake on it and pointed the fork towards your mouth.
You opened your mouth while looking him in the eyes, trying to stop your face from heating up and embarrassing yourself in front of Jisung. Felix smirked at you when you gasped.
“Oh my god, this tastes amazing.” And it did. The cupcake was soft, moist, and extremely fluffy. The flavour was subtle, but addicting, and you had to stop yourself from taking another bite and eating the cupcake all in one go.
You heard Jisung laugh, “Thank you. I will give the compliments to the chef when he comes back.”
Felix winked at you and took his own bite, “It’s perfect.”
He pushed the platter with the half-eaten cupcake aside. Jisung took the platter and handed you the red velvet cupcake.
“I hope you won’t feel like a psycho after trying our red velvet cupcake,” Jisung joked and looked at the both of you. You snorted quietly and hid your laugh behind your hand. While laughing, you slightly leaned further into Felix, who welcomed you with open arms.
“Who are you to make my fiance laugh like that,” Felix joked back and gently pressed his lips against your temple, “but I think she might need to get scared that I’m gonna leave her for your cupcakes.”
You looked at him, “Fight me.”
Felix's eyes sparkled, “Over these cupcakes? Always.”
You noticed Jisung look at you and you felt your body heat up again.
“I’m sorry. We’re just so excited,” you said, and Felix nodded, “Yeah, for our wedding and everything.”
Jisung smiled, “No worries. We love seeing our … customers happy. Especially ones who… have their special day soon.”
Felix moved beside you and Jisung pulled a grimace.
“Anyway. Here’s the red velvet.”
You took your own bite this time and closed your eyes. The cupcake tasted mildly like cocoa and blended together so insanely tasty the cream cheese frosting outside. The texture was smooth and soft this time again.
“Oh, I’m so in love right now,” You joked and looked at Felix, “Have some.”
It was your turn to feed him this time. It was a delicate moment shared between the both of you, and Felix beamed at you after taking his bite.
“This is great,” He complimented again and looked at Jisung. The latter pressed his lips together and nodded his head, “Do you want to try the last one? We can talk about decorations after.”
You looked at Felix worriedly. You had not discussed decorations so far, hell, you did not even consider that they would already plan the cake with you. All you assumed they did was have you taste the flavours, you pay for it, and come back another time if you chose the place to actually work on the cake.
Felix noticed your uneasiness and answered, “If we choose your cake, we would love to discuss the decorations with the chef himself, please. We want it to be simple, but we would prefer to discuss it with him. I hope you understand.”
Jisung looked at Felix and squinted his eyes while staring at him. At least that’s what you thought you saw, because when you properly looked at Jisung, you saw the smile on his face he never seemed to love.
“Of course,” He answered, pushing the last cupcake towards you, “Help yourself. I will go back to grab the notebook. We can at least write down the flavours you prefer now. It helps with the planning process, if you decide to choose us.”
Felix nodded and pulled you closer into him.
“C’mon, babe, have another bite,” He said and placed the fork in front of your closed lips. Jisung already left the room and you opened your mouth, allowing Felix to feed you one more time.
“These cakes are insane,” you moaned and fell into his chest, “I think we actually need to get married now. There is no way I will never have these again.”
Felix smirked, “Didn’t you say your friend chose these for her wedding?”
“Yes,” you hesitated, “but I think I could eat one of these in one sitting all by myself.”
Gently, Felix put his hand on your cheek.
“You got something”, he mumbled, staring at your lips, “right there.”
Carefully, he swiped his thumb over your lower lip up to the corner of your mouth. Felix looked up into your eyes and put his thumb up to his own mouth to suck it clean.
“All gone,” he whispered. You could not get another word out, you were all too mesmerised by his eyes. They were still sparkling and god, the freckles on his face. You blinked slowly and looked at the stars on his cheeks. He was so gorgeous and you felt your stomach flutter at his actions. Slowly, Felix leaned in.
“Tell me,” Felix said quietly, still leaning in further. Your gaze dropped down to his lips, “I-”
You heard the door open again and jumped out of his arms. Jisung came back with a notebook in his hand, pretending that he did not see what you guys were up to.
“Did you guys decide on a flavour?” He asked and opened the notebook. Felix nodded.
“I really like the chocolate one. What do you think, cupcake?” He winked at you, while you were still trying to get your remaining brain cells to work again.
“Yeah, I really want the chocolate one too.”
Jisung looked at Felix, before glancing back at you.
“Preferred flavour: chocolate cake. Thank you,” He wrote it down in his notebook, “I will let the Chef know. This would already be it otherwise. If you want us to make your wedding cake, please make sure to let us know within two business days. We have a pretty open schedule and we are flexible when it comes to the date, so you don’t have to tell us just yet when it will be. A rough estimate will be enough.”
“A spring wedding,” Felix answered for you, his hand dropping down to your lower back, “we want a spring wedding.”
You nodded in agreement, unable to get another word out when Felix drew circles with his thumb on your lower back. Jisung nodded one last time.
“Alright. Then it’s settled! Just give us another call within the next few days. Chef Lee will personally answer you.”
Felix thanked Jisung and both men stood up. You joined Felix right away, still in a trance, and Jisung led you the way back to the counter. Seungmin was still standing behind the counter and hurriedly put the pastry he was snacking on below the counter in front of him. Jisung stared at him and pushed him to the side to go to the computer. He typed something in it, presumably what you just talked about, and looked at the both of you.
“The total would be 25.”
You reached into your pocket to get your wallet out, but Felix was faster. He handed Jisung a ten and a twenty bill and told him to keep the change. Jisung looked at him.
“It was a pleasure to have you both here today. I hope you choose us for your wedding cake. Have a nice day, Y/N and Felix.”
You both said your goodbyes and left the bakery together, Felix hand still on your back. Cheekily, he slipped his hand right into yours when you made your way back to your home and to his car. You squeezed Felix hand and could feel a slight warm feeling in your cheeks again.
“Say, when did you want to tell me that you are Chef Lee?”
