I miss them <3 been trying to catch up on sherlock & co and wanted to revisit this old sketch I made a while back :]

One of my favourite ACD stories has got to be The Speckled Band. You'd think it couldn't get any gayer, and yet it does every time you flip a page.

- "we were sharing rooms as bachelors..." Mhm mhm I see what you did there

- Holmes wakes Watson up, again, at crack-dawn standing at his bed like slenderman, and before Watson can really get annoyed he just goes "case" and his boswell immediately replies "My dear fellow, I would not miss it for anything"

- then Watson starts gushing about Holmes and his way of working

- meanwhile Holmes greets the female client essentially with "Hi so this is my boyfriend don't even try it with him"

- they go to investigate the place the client's sister died and Holmes declares: "both my friend and I must spend the night in your [single bed-] room", okay bro

- then they share *one* bedroom at a nearby hotel

- the entire conversation about Holmes worrying for Watson's safety

- them waiting in the bedroom for nightfall: "...and [let us] turn our minds to something more cheerful."

- the entirety of the following investigation

Summary:

Five times Sherlock Holmes confesses his love for John Watson and one time he is understood.

Featuring:

Listen I love a Sherlock Holmes with self-worth issues and difficulty verbally expressing his deeper emotions as much as the next person, but consider: a Sherlock Holmes who knows he's in love with Watson -- a Watson who hasn't worked out his own feelings yet and who then goes and marries a woman. Consider, a Holmes who, when Watson finally does figure out his own feelings for Holmes, throws himself fully into showing his love for Watson. Consider, a Watson who is more hesitant to verbally express his love for Holmes -- to speak poetically and romantically of Holmes the way Holmes speaks of Watson (conductor of light, etc). Consider, a Holmes who makes Watson feel safe to step outside the strictures of expected Victorian gentleman behaviour, who does not think less of him for his disabilities, or for his softness.

Sherlock, in the Blanched Soldier: Hi, so Watson's been telling me that I should try my hand at writing an account of a case because I always complain when he does it and he always goes "Well, do it yourself then!". But now I'm doing it myself l've actually found that he was right all along and what he does is so amazing because he makes me seem so much smarter than I am. He's actually much more brilliant than his stories would have you think. I don't keep him around out of sentiment. Oh no! He's actually incredible and I love talking with him because he's constantly amazed by what I do and he's so stubborn when he cares about something and- …He actually wasn’t here on this adventure as he had recently deserted me for a wife, the only selfish action of our acquaintance. Which I feel completely normal about thanks for asking, ANYWAY-
