Meet Cathy Kangas!
Ladies Who Launch Southwestern Connecticut is proud to welcome Cathy Kangas to our entrepreneurial family! Cathy is President and CEO of the PRAI Beauty Group, Inc., an international brand of luxury skincare and fragrance products that she founded and launched in 1999.
Her highly successful PRAI skincare products are based on PRAI Root essence, a powerful botanical extract that the royal families of Thailand have sworn by for thousands of years. The instant and long-term effects achieved by combining PRAI Root Essence with the latest skincare ingredients and delivery technologies thrust Cathy’s award-winning line of products to top positions on home shopping networks in the US (HSN), the UK (QVC), Australia (TVSN), Canada (The Shopping Network), and Italy (QVC).
Born in the UK, Cathy began her career at world famous Selfridges Department Store in London while attending college. She came to the United States in 1983 by way of Revlon, where she held brand management and marketing roles in the luxury brand division.
Beyond her commitment to skincare, Cathy is committed to the care and protection of animals. She is a member of the National Council of the Humane Society of the United States, leading its campaign to end the Canadian Baby Seal Hunt, a hunt that results in over 300,000 baby seal deaths each year. In addition to seals, Cathy pushed for her love of dogs when she convinced the government on the Island of St. Martin to build a sanctuary and implement a comprehensive spay and neutering program for homeless Island dogs. With four rescue dogs at home, animal safety is clearly a cause that is near and dear to her heart.
What a lady! Welcome to the family, Cathy!

Watch out, Kalinda. There’s a new private investigator in town!
After working as an Investigator and National Sales Executive for more than 20 years, Michelle Campa wanted a change of pace. After having two sons, her lifestyle of constant travel and time away from home was difficult to maintain. However, Michelle wasn’t going to let her experience go to waste. With her sharp investigative skills, she decided to get her PI license and has since launched her own investigative information company, Validus Information Services.
Michelle started Validus Information Services in 2007 as an information company providing intelligence and investigative services to consumers and businesses.  Validus' solutions help its customers verify information about individuals and businesses, enabling them to be aware of (and avoid) risks to their professional, private and social lives. Corporate and legal clients information services are structured to their specific requirements and objectives.  Validus' tailored and personalized approach definitely sets it apart from other e-commerce background companies.
By pursuing her investigative career, Michelle fills a clear void in the male-dominated world of investigation, using her vast experiences to work with women and business, while also spending more time with her family. That combination of passion and drive that makes us so proud to count Michelle Campa amongst our Ladies Who Launch ranks.
To learn more about Validus Information Services' full line of investigative services, visit their website at www.validusinfo.com or call 1-888-441-8535.

Calling All Ladies!
On July 16th, Ladies Who Launch Southwestern CT will be partnering with Housatonic Habitat for Humanity to build a house in Danbury, CT, and we are looking for two more ladies to join! This is a wonderful chance for us to give back to others in need. Ladies Who Launch helps women build their businesses, so what better way is there to give back than joining together to build a house?
Housatonic Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing from sixteen towns including New Canaan, Wilton, Ridgefield, Weston and Danbury. Their mission is to mobilize a local community to provide responsible home ownership opportunities to deserving families with limited income, and Ladies Who Launch is very excited to work with such an esteemed organization!
The build will take place on Saturday, July 16th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and will take place at Habitat for Humanity's current site at 6 Linden Place in Danbury, CT.
No experience necessary! If you are interested, please email Kathy McShane at [email protected].

Lisa Oz Speaks to Our Ladies at Saks Fifth Avenue
On June 22nd, our ladies got a special treat when Lisa Oz (writer, actress, producer and co-host of The Doctor Oz Show) came to Saks Fifth Avenue in Greenwich, CT to speak with them about her experience as a successful entrepreneur. Lisa shared her own reasons for starting her business, saying, "I wanted to spend more time with my husband. I therefore suggested to him that I produce a TV show and have him as the host. It was a result of this desire that we started this show." What a woman!
In addition to her role as a producer, Lisa is also a renowned author, actress, mother and wife. Lisa gave insight to how best to develop (and maintain) strong and healthy relationships, saying, "For many years, I tried to change my husband Mehmet. It took me a long time to realize that I needed to understand what it was about me that felt the need to change him." She noted that one must gain a deep understanding of oneself before one can have a strong relationship with others.
At Ladies Who Launch, we develop programs for women who want to launch or expand their businesses. I often feature other women who have been successful at doing this. All of the women I work with have a specific reason for venturing out on their own. It was fascinating to find out that Lisa Oz did as well, and we are so grateful for her insights.
Many thanks to Serendipity Magazine for sponsoring the event. A portion of the proceeds went to benefit Norwalk Hospital Circle of Caring, a program designed to encourage former patients of Norwalk Hospital and their families to become more involved in the hospital.
What a splendid event! For future speakers and events, feel free to look at our website: http://www.ladieswholaunch.com/southwestct
