#5 of my 16 Favorite things from DCI 2016!

My Favorite Front Ensemble goes to the 2016 Santa Clara Vanguard! Like I said with the Percussion Arrangements, “Crisp and Beautiful”, the Front Ensemble of 2016 SCV were the driving force that made those words ring true to me. I want to congratulate the Percussion of SCV on winning the Sanford Award, you guys totally deserved it! Runner Up goes to the 2016 Blue Devils.

Hi!! I'm a girl percussionist (I've been playing for about 5 years) and I play marimba. I feel kind of bad because I'm bad at snare, but I feel like I need to be good at it. Any advice??

I felt the same way when I graduated high school. Now that I'm a music major, lessons are a required class for me and snare has been one of my focuses. If you really want to improve take lessons, even if it means just taking them from some kid on the drum line at your school. Best of luck girl! 😁

I dont understand how mallet percussionists in the pit do those crazy runs like do you guys actually think about every individual key that you’re hitting or do you just move your mallets rapidly in one general direction and hope that it’ll work out

I'm in color guard right now, looking to audition for drumline in the spring, and I'm an absolute beginner. any tips to improve quickly??

Make friends with some people already on the line, and ask them for help. All of my students that I have ever had switch to my section, are way more successful if they aren't afraid to ask questions.

I'm the only girl snare drummer for the past two years and I've actually had teachers who I've never met before come up to me and ask if I was "that girl drummer on drumline" it's actually hilarious

I love this so much. You go girl.
