Ask game: I brought the sun and stars + number 14 please and thank you!
yay thank you so much for the ask!!
14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic? Ooh, I feel like a lot of the big emotional payoffs/ growth arcs are yet to come as Éowyn and Faramir grow closer and confront their various issues, and I don't want to spoil those quite yet. For now, I'll say that a big thing I want to convey throughout the entirety of this fic is the nuance of both characters. I think a lot of fanon distills both Éowyn and Faramir down to a few traits; namely that Éowyn is strong and brave and a survivor of oppression based on her gender, and Faramir is a reluctant warrior and had issues with his father. Those things are certainly true, but they are both a lot more nuanced than that. I hope that I Brought the Sun and Stars is able to show readers a more well-rounded version of each character, because I think its within the nuance of each character that we really see how they are a perfect fit for each other; how they give each other room to be their full selves. For example, Faramir has some hard edges that are not immediately obvious nor widely-acknowledged in fanon. He's got a stubborn streak and an internal moral compass that he will not be swayed from. I also think he's probably quite lonely and emotionally isolated, especially after Boromir departs for Imladris. There's a line in ROTK where he sways and catches himself, which I think can be read as symbolic of that emotional isolation. On the other hand, Éowyn, I think, is more romantic than a lot of fanon gives her credit for (I find a lot of people want to see her as a tomboy who would not be interested in something so silly and feminine as ~love~). Yet, I think that's a reductive misread. It's clear from the text that she wants to be loved romantically. Yet, crucially, she wants to be known and seen and loved for who she truly is, not the body or social position she occupies. For most of her life she's been overlooked and left behind, even by those closest to her, because they didn't understand or value her whole self. That's also left her deeply angry, and I think a lot of her depression manifested from that anger being turned inward because there was no safe or socially acceptable way for her to express that anger and challenge the norms that were confining her. When the two of them come together, I think it's a perfect opportunity for both of them to get what they need. In Éowyn, Faramir finds a partner who is able to really be his equal and to match his will, to be the companion that he lacked (especially after Boromir's departure). And in Faramir, I think Éowyn is able to find someone who sees and values her whole self; who is independent-minded enough to not overlook her on the basis of societal norms, and who is strong-willed enough to challenge her to really stand up for what she wants and needs. Faramir is romantic for sure, but he isn't the dashing prince that's just going to save her as if she is a damsel in distress. Instead, he's going to give her the room and love and support to save herself.
Sorry that was incredibly rambly, but I hope that makes some amount of sense. Thank you for the ask <3 if anyone else would like to send an ask, feel free (help me procrastinate on TRSB edits that I'm avoiding).

Oh I would fully go in the pool; Faramir can kill me if he wants
my toxic trait is that I really really really want to go into the Forbidden Pool specifically because it is Forbidden. like it's a normal pool but just calling it the Forbidden Pool makes the water look sooooo refreshing and invitingggggg

Just once I’d love to see a movie or show where the tomboy girl character DOESN’T end up becoming more feminine by the end of it to show her character development and how much she’s “matured”
#me_irl#this is why my best friend thought i was going to be a preppy sorority girl when she first met me#and then i turned out to be a half-feral nerd who forces her friends to run wild through the backcountry at any opportunity#and never misses an opportunity to show random men that I'm more metal than they are

i'll defend fanfic for my whole life. like the joy it brings is genuinely transformative and indulgent in a way unique to the genre. it isn't meant for a market, it isn't meant to be sold or marketed. it is born out of such care and passion for a media that one must write and must share it, so other folks can enjoy it to. for no other reason than love and joy. do you know how special that is? especially in our current social and political climate.

Lots of speculation on how Galadriel got the Valar to let Gimli into the undying lands, but in my heart of hearts I know the truth, and the truth is that she didn't even get to finish the first sentence of her pitch.
Galadriel: So, one of the Fellowship was a dwarf— Aule: Yes. Our answer is yes. Do they need a boat? I didn't teach them anything about boats, so they'll probably need a boat. Let's go ahead and adjourn the meeting and I'll get to work on that boat. Aule: Don't you give me that look Manwe, Ulmo's got Tuor in his purse right now, you're letting me have this.
