a little something i wrote a while back
Once, in a world far away from here, there was silence.
An effervescent silence, one so long and so eternal that no one alive had ever known sound.
With no sound for millions and millions of years, the silence had become deafening.
Neena Aiyalah had never known the joy of music, or of hearing a child’s laughter, or even her own mother telling her she loved her.
She has never known anything other than silence.
--
The old woman came to my room every day, and poured some concoction smelling of tea tree oil in my ears, always moving her mouth in ways I didn’t understand.
Then, after about two weeks of this incessant oil-pouring, it hit me.
It hit me, more loudly than the silence that had permeated my existence since I’d exited my mother’s womb. More sharply than the needle of yearly shots. More infinite than the universe
This sensation, it was like a blanket that had previously been over my senses was ripped away.
I suddenly felt everything.
Too much, it was almost too much.
Tears came to my eyes as the old woman came to me. This time, when she opened her mouth, I heard it.
That one elusive thing I had never been able to sense or analyze.
I heard sound.

a poem
where have you gone, beloved? into what wild world have you fled? paralysis claims my bones, trying to wander this life without you. my memories of you fade with every passing day. yesterday I knew the sweet lilt of your voice, and but the day before, the gentle calluses of your hands. the only fading shapes left to me now are your orbs of brightest blue. oh beloved, one more touch, one more look. don't leave me lonely. if i close my eyes, i can almost see it again. i've stumbled and strode, sprinted and slowed, through this li(f)e we've been given. the sweet darkness of night gives way to brutal sunlight, shedding wicked light upon our existence, every failure and tragedy, every success and achievement. this lie, one that lulls us into believing, it's begun to fade away. it's all begun to fade away. where has it gone, beloved?

genuinely surprised someone didn’t murder cass in the cradle... oh well, more nessian content bc he’s alive!
Shoutout to Rhys’ mother, who raised not only him but also 2 Illyrians (one of which was... you know... Cassian).
It’s amazing she didn’t murder them in their sleep.

darkness- a poem
the darkness has always been there,
lurking in the shadows.
even in rooms of brightest sunlight,
it lies in wait to pounce on my tomorrows.
maybe i’d always been broken like this,
maybe since before the dawn of time, i was meant to be like this.
but for a while, it went away,
all thanks to chris.
but darkness has a way of finding you again,
of showing up when you least expect it.
it never leaves,
and it shows incredible grit.
i’ve had two sides as long as i can remember,
the darkness being one.
it used to swallow me whole,
and it used to block out the sun.
now that relationship is null and void,
and my two sides have made a new appearance,
i’ve learned something new,
and to my darkness i bear no adherence.
a poem says “there is no light without darkness,”
no one can survive without a touch of it.
my darkness has been reined in,
and my mind has been moonlit.
i used to stare at people and wonder
“how does one live with both light and darkness?”
but then i learned,
in darkness, one finds catharsis.

why yes, I do work out. how? by destroying my enemies.
Nesta: *before training* I need to burn calories.
Cassian: *suggestively* Kissing burns calories.
Nesta: So does mercilessly destroying my enemies.
