The next film up for review is perhaps the coolest of all time, Pulp Fiction (1994). It was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, currently one of the biggest name directors in the business. The film also had the most nominations that led to the fewest wins at the major awards celebrations that I have ever seen. This was partly because the film came out in a loaded year alongside Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, The Madness of King George, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Quiz Show. It was probably the most stacked year for great movies that I remember and definitely a time when I couldn’t decide who I thought deserved the Oscar. It was also partly due to the non-linear storytelling making a vignette format meaning no actor really got the lion share of screen time. Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman all play the slickest parts that are completely unforgettable. This is a Tarantino movie, so send the kiddies to bed (lot of swearing and extreme violence) and join me for a fun night of jumbled tales about the greatest group of glorified bad guys on film.
